The silver 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras from Sigma is standard length prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras. Its focal length is equivalent to a 45mm lens in the 35mm format and its minimum focus distance is 11.8" (30 cm). Its f/2.8 maximum aperture is ideal for shallow depth of field imaging and allows it to maintain sharpness in low light situations. An inner focusing system means the lens does not extend when focusing and its newly developed linear autofocus motor is accurate and quiet. Sigma's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture, and with two glass molded aspherical elements including a double-sided aspherical element, aberrations are kept to a minimum. The result is accurate color definition and sharp imaging across the frame. A metal exterior provides durability and handsome design.

Standard length 30mm prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras with a 45mm focal length equivalent
Maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light situations and able to create lovely shallow depth of field images.
Inner focusing system and linear autofocus motor for efficient, smooth, quiet and accurate focus.
Two glass molded aspherical elements, including a double-sided aspherical element and Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes aberrations and reduces flare and ghosting for sharp, high contrast images.
A brass bayonet mount has both high accuracy and durability. A special treatment to reinforce its strength is applied to the surface giving it greater strength and making it highly resistant to long-term use.
Part of Sigma's new "Art" class of fast aperture, sharp prime lenses

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

This is an outstanding optic. It delivers great sharpness and contrast, and it is a steal of a deal. The only drawback is that the Sony a6000 does not use the entire sensor for AF when this lens is mounted, but it does cover the area of "the thirds". I think that the incredible price makes up for that small inconvenience.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I used to think of Sigma as just another third party lens maker and not necessarily one of the better ones. Boy, have things changed. This lens is SUPERB. Yes, it's light and it does have that loose lens element when off the camera. However, it performs as well as a lens priced three times more. This little thing is a jewel. The images it produces are colorful, contrasty, sharp, with wonderful colors that pop. Very Zeiss-like in the sharpness and contrast department with colors on the warmer side. And, unlike all of those lenses Sony has made in China or Thailand, this is made in Japan by a small family company. I put a Hoya multi-coated digital pro UV filter on it and couldn't be happier with the performance. I thought I'd buy this lens until I could afford either the Sony 35mm f/1.8 or the Sony branded Zeiss f/4 16-70 zoom. Now I can't imagine parting with it. Sigma, you've come a long way. Well done. And at this price, it absolutely cannot be beat. If you've got an A6000, buy this lens for it. You'll love the results. My highest recommendation. And I'm usually a lens snob. Sigma...who knew??? I'm a convert. Need you to make a normal zoom lens with OIS now, please.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

Having used nothing but zoom lenses for a very long time, I now have added two primes: the Sony 50mm f/1.8 and this Sigma 30mm f/2.8 for my Sony NEX-7. I believe these two primes are, for the money, the two best lenses available for Sony NEX cameras. This Sigma can be compared to the Sony 35mm f/1.8, which costs more than double what the Sigma costs and is a little larger/heavier but also is a little faster and has image stabalization. I don't think image stabalization is all that important for a fast lightweight 30mm lens, nor do I regard f/1.8 as all that more valuable than f/2.8 for these focal lengths. Others may value things differently. But in any case, the IQ from this Sigma lens is way higher than my expensive zooms when set to the same focal length. This Sigma has superb image quality, it is both lightweight and small, and very inexpensive. Highly recommended!

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

I use it with Sony a6000. This lens is much sharper and faster than the standard 16-50mm that comes with the 6000 as a kit. It certainly comes closer to exploiting the real possibilities of the a6000 than the kit lens.
It may not be the best lens available, but considering the price, it is a very good deal.
It makes a disconcerting rattling noise if you shake it (gently) or when you turn the camera on, but the auto-focus works without fail.
I would recommend this lens to anyone who has the a6000 body.

Despite it's clunking sound when the camera is not on this lens produces very crisp images and extremely nice colors.

In combination with a Sony a600 this is a must have lens for beginners as for pro photographers.

Purchased this Sigma with my Sony A6000 and was impressed with it's look and performance. It's a bit on the slow side, but looks and feels perfect on the A6K. The results are very good too. I don't think you can beat the performance /cost ratio. My only beef is that it doesn't allow you to use all the auto focus tracking on the A6K.

I bought this lens about two weeks ago and am extremely satisfied, have used it to take ~500 shots. It feels solid and durable and aesthetically looks great. It's a sharp lens, and the wide aperture range is great. Clear and sharp images, even in low light. Highly recommended as a prime lens for a Sony NEX camera.

Got nice shots indoors at 3200 iso (on nex 5N)
                45mm equivalent +2.8 aperture = good bokeh
45 mm works 'fine' for landscape , and when needed panoramic shots do the trick.

                on the minus:
                no integrated anti-shake / OSS
slightly big / heavy (not really a pancake)
cannot take macro shot (cannot go very close to subject)

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

This lens gets solid reviews but what caught my eye was the ability to remove the rear baffle which allows the lens to cover most of the full frame of the A7. This allows me to have an autofocus lens for stills and video to compliment my Contax G lenses and a Voigtlander 21mm. It is sharp top to bottom and and to the sides until it vignets near the edge and is cropped to around say the 35mm focal length. Video is better with this than the 10mp apsc crop mode. Yes it's a compromise for me now but image quality is very good, so good I may buy the 19mm and 60mm. I tried the Sony 16mm but found the apsc crop lost a lot of the A7's beautiful image quality and the 16mm was awful outside of the center. There is a way to make the AEL button custom select a CIZ, clear image zoom, I think that's what they call it, so you can crop say 1.2 or 1.3 to get rid of the black corners, in-camera. Just look at what you get with say a Leica M8 at 1.3 crop with lenses that cost thousands of dollars and I guarantee the A7/R cameras are a huge bang for the buck with amazing quality and many lens options like this versatile Sigma.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

This lense fits and looks really nice on my Sony NEX 5R. Build quality is excellent. The size profile is comparable to that of my 16-50mm OEM kit lense which makes it a nice size for packing into my small camera case or walking around.

This lense provides really nice sharp and contrasty photos. Overall image quality seems a little better than what my OEM kit lense produces, right down to F2.8. Auto focus is quick and accurate.

I miss the image stabilization feature on the OEM Sony lense in low light situations. Wish Sigma would work on a F1.8 version of this lense.

I tried the sony SO3518Q and the zeiss SO2418. This is my favorite and especially considering it is cheaper than the other two. Just wish it was faster and had stabilization.

Bought this over the Sony 50MM 1.8 because of price and because I'm somewhat new to the game and figure I can re-sell and upgrade if I need to in the future. I've very happy so far. It makes my NEX-5R very portable for street or wedding photography and has great quick auto focus and nice bokeh. For $199 you can't go wrong. 4 stars instead of five for the 2.8 over 1.8. However if they could do 1.8 at this price it would be 6 stars.

Comments about 30mm f/2.8 DN Lens for Sony E-mount Cameras (Black):

After reading many reviews I decided to try this and the Sigma 19mm lens for my NEX-7. Until now, I have not found a small, lightweight lens for the NEX that really matches what the NEX-7 sensor is capable of. I had been using a Canon 24mm TSE II with an adapter. That is a sharp lens edge to edge with almost no distortion and no chromatic aberrations at all. I use it for all serious landscape work. But it is big and bulky and no AF so I don't like to use it as a walkaround or travel lens. Using it for comparison, I tested the 30mm both in studio and outdoors in various scenarios. It is just as sharp in the center as the Canon 24mm TSE II, a little softer at the edges but once stopped down to 5.6 (which seems to be the sweet spot) it almost matches it edge to edge. I did not notice any distortion but it does have some color fringing at the edges. Not really a big deal since it can easily be corrected with software. But you can't correct a lack of resolution. Finally a small, lightweight and really sharp lens. Build quality seems pretty good considering the size and weight. The shiny metal focus ring really doesn't bother me. It looks good on the NEX. And[*] you also get a case and hood. Hard to believe this little cheap lens can stand toe to toe with a [$] lens that is one of Canon's best wide angles. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this lens unless they get a copy with a defect of some sort.

I really was going to try the Zeiss 24 1.8 but didn't want to spend cash. This is a great lens for the $. Build quality could be a bit better but lens is sharp.
