      An Awesome Value through B&H

Comments about Vanguard Abeo Pro 283AGH Aluminum Tripod with GH-300T Grip Head:

I Love this tripod! The tripod it self is definitely sturdy and well made (slightly stiff) but never the less the type of product i want to own. I spent probably 10 hours or more of my leisure time researching tripods and have to say I think I made the right decision! I looked very hard at the Manfrotto's and Slik's and couldn't make up my mind (based off reading other reviews and watching youtube videos.) I researched several leading brands and compared price, functionality, quality, etc. I really believe for B&H's price on this tri-pod, it is very hard to beat. I am currently living between Indiana & Switzerland and shooting with a Canon 60D, this tripod will take the everything I throw at it and is very stable even with larger lenses in rough terrain. I didn't want to spend $- on a tri-pod, so I looked for the best value with all the right features. I am mostly shooting nature and doing a small amount of cinematography, this tripod is excellent for both. I am very happy with the product and B&H's price and service. ***The 300 Ball head is just simply awesome! It has a trigger to take the photos, love it. ***

I've owned a lot of tripods over the last 40 as a commercial photographer.
Man...this is a really great tripod and head!
You can make this tripod do anything, in any position.
Around the studio I have referred to it as my Tantric Tripod.
Seriously, I am delighted with everything about this tripod and head.

Solid foundation evn with heavy camera lens combinations. Easily deployed. Larger than most but for stability what you'd need and expect! Head well worth the extra cost. Use with my Nikons and all lenses up to 500mm. Multiple feet for virtually all situations. Best buy!

I couldn't be happier with my new Abeo Pro 283AGH tripod. The flexibility that this tripod has is beyond those of $700 tripods I have used in the past. It is also sturdier than most of the tripods I have used, and it came with it's own canvas, carrying bag. The tripod now ships with the shutter release for my Canon 7D, so it rapidly became an important part of my shooting equipment.

I recently purchased this tripod for shooting artwork in a studio setting. Overall, I am very happy with the product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, versatile tripod.

                  Pros:
                  • Very solid construction
                  • Great maximum height for tall people like myself
                  • Love the pivoting center column
                  • Can shoot very low to the ground
                  • GH-300T head offers smooth panning options for video

                  Cons:
                  • leg angle release buttons are a bit stiff
                  • GH-300T pistol grip head is stiff, even when set to minimum resistance with trigger depressed

Comments about Vanguard Abeo Pro 283AGH Aluminum Tripod with GH-300T Grip Head:

My wife bought this tripod for me after I searched across many stores. I've looked at the Manfrotto 055prob, Benro, Induro and cheaper brands and found the Vanguard to have the features I wanted. The legs in this kit are great. I love the ability to move the ball off the center axis at any angle or even invert it to shoot macro at ground level. Yes other tripods can do things similarly but this set of legs can do more. I prefer to have more options than a highly recognized set of legs. The legs are very sturdy and are easily maneuvered for leveling or getting into tight areas to obtain stability. The "snow shoes" are funny to look at but I like the simple design of the feet. They are embedded into each other so you can keep them all on the tripod and ready to be pulled off if you need spikes or soft rubber tips. The GH-300T pistol grip head is great. I was able to look at the GH-100 before buying and found it was easy to manipulate. I looked at the Manfrotto pistol grips but didn't like the feel and how you are locked into one position. The GH-300T is so flexible in how you set it up that it reminds me of a transformer. The grip is easy to use and setup and I love how the grip allows me to use my video on camera or my video camera to pan and follow action easily. The heaviest setup I have is the Nikkor 70-200 VRII and my D7000 with battery grip. This setup is well within the weight rating of the GH-300T. Next I'll see how it works with the Nikkor 200-400 F4 VRII. That lens alone weighs 7 lbs. so along with the camera body it will be close to the stated weight limit. The shutter release action is nice but isn't why I bought the unit. I still am using both hands for photography so the release button is for fun and my 4 year old son loves to shoot with it.I mainly use this for studio work for infant portraits and night shooting. It sets up the shot fast for infants and that makes life so much easier. Night shots are easy to compose and steady. I understand carbon fiber and basalt dampen vibrations better but add some weight to the center hook and that becomes a non-issue. I love the weight it already has and don't see it as an issue. I'm not hiking 100 miles in a national forest for a documentary. Maybe only a mile at times but I have a good solid camera backpack that carries it perfectly.

Great product for Macro work. Very stable tripod, the GH-300T grip head makes adjustments a breeze. My only disappointment was the GH-300T trigger cord is not made for the Nikon D80 and Vanguard does not have a cord that will work, if I knew this prior to making the purchase, I could have same some money by purchasing the GH-200. But, plan on keeping it and updating the D80 someday in the near future. As always B&H was great to work with.

I love this tripod and pistol grip tripod. Only hiccup was the shutter release cable for the trigger (that comes with the trigger ball mount) does not mate with new Canon 6D. I solved this by sourcing a conversion cable at competitors website. If B&H carried the item, I would have purchased it here. With that solved, this is a great setup tool. I do desktop catalogue photography and this tripod with the offset arm and ball mount really has a place for this kind of work. There has also been a productivity increase as well that i attribute to this purchase.
