Can't use AB d-tap or Sony BPU

Comments about Litepanels MicroPro On-Camera LED Light:

Powerful little light (almost always dim to 60-70% or less), light weight, easy to mount on arm, post, or cold shoe. Be careful of the fast falloff because it is a spot, not a flood (which is why I always have to dim it down and use the diffusion gel). Great daylight color temp lights, acceptable but still bluish with CTO in 3200K environment, tricky under some florescent lights. All-in-all a very decent light for the price.

Serious cons for me: I just got word from Litepanels product support that the 5-16v DC jack on the back of the unit is not recommended for power via 14v Anton Bauer d-tap (or 14v d-tap from Sony BPU series used for EX-1, EX-3, PMW-200, etc.).

Translation: only "recommended" way to power the unit while on-camera is by 6xAA (expensive e2 Lithiums are needed to get you through an entire day before it dims on you) or by optional DV style battery plate that attaches to the back. Check to see if the battery system your camera uses is supported, otherwise you will break the bank on the e2 Lithiums.

I see (and use) MicroPros powered by Anton Bauer d-taps all the time (in my freelance work), but after my correspondence with Litepanels support, I wonder if it's just a matter of time before the circuitry fails on them? If you are building up an ENG/documentary rig and hope to run your cam and peripherals off a 14v system, I would forget about this light.

Comments about Litepanels MicroPro On-Camera LED Light:

Seems to put out enough light for interviews when they are within 5-8' of the camcorder.

Sadly, the column between the light and the shoe cracked and it now likes to flop around. Worse yet, the dimmer switch is very unreliable since the light cuts out a lot and often I have to jiggle it to even get it to turn on.

They were kind enough to provide three gels.

Comments about Litepanels MicroPro On-Camera LED Light:

This will be the second one of these lights I purchased, The first one is still running like a champ, so when it came time to ordering a new light for one of our other cameras, it was a no brainer. Super Bright and it runs on AA batteries, not having to use the battery from my camera or carry a external battery makes it just that much better.
