The V-11 HDSLR Rig Kit from Dot Line is a shoulder-mount camera support rig designed for shooting video with an HDSLR. A camera can be mounted onto the rig via the Arca Swiss style quick release, and industry standard 15mm rods allow users to deploy additional accessories, like the included matte box and follow focus. The rig also features two padded hand grips and a tripod mounting bracket.

Matte Box
The matte box features top and side flags, designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens. The matte box is adjustable to allow for different size lenses and includes a mounting bracket for use with 15mm rod support systems.
Follow Focus
The follow focus features a 0.8 mod (film pitch) drive gear. The unit can be mounted on 15mm rods from either side of the camera, enabling left or right-handed operation. A magnetic and keyed marking ring is also included.

Comments about Dot Line V-11 HDSLR Rig Kit:

Check reviews for this rig without follow focus ... some had the barndoors on the "matte box" break on first use as did I. It isn't a matte box because it does not hold filters, it's just a flag but looks ok from a distance to an untrained eye.

The metal parts, wing nuts, rods and handles are fine.

I did not find the follow focus smooth. There is a wobble to the know that causes the marker wheel to scrape on the metal marker .. loud enough to be picked up by a close mic. As with the other reviewer, I found that the lens is easily pushed away from the follow focus gear. One has to pan the lens as hard right as possible and torque down the base plate to the camera that way. I'm no expert on follow focuses, this is my first, but that said, I felt like it was about a 1:1 on turning the focus ring and I would rather have some that that at least has the option of gearing that down for a gentler focus pull.

The shoulder brace has a pad that is fragile. One must set the rig down and it has to rest on that pad. After one gig mine was split so on the next gig, it will be wearing a coat of gaff tape.

In my opinion, these hand held rigs are more to beef up the look of a DSLR on set and not particularly helpful .. I've always been able to do pretty good hand held just holding the camera and these things really get in the way if you want to come off the shoulder and shoot from the hip or on the ground for instance. It just slows me down. But if you need something to make your DSLR look more like a film camera on set, this is probably the least pricey way to go about it. My client was impressed so there's that.

Comments about Dot Line V-11 HDSLR Rig Kit:

The rig is very easy to use and customizable. I shoot dance performances and using this rig has really smoothed out my footage. The follow focus works very well, but if you have it mounted on the left it can occasionally disconnect as the camera can shift to the right. The customizability is very helpful. The rig can be front heavy which causes it to pivot on the crossbar. There are two solutions I found, I wrapped matte scotch tape around the bar where the body clamps on; the other solution is to move the grips from the crossbar (how it's shown) to the parallel bars. I put mine just behind the follow focus mount and it worked great. Some of the wing nuts are longer than others and I found that some are more useful in different spots than how they came originally. So, the rig isn't perfect out of the box but it's working great for me now.
