The computer itself may be fine but after trying for a week to set up Windows 8 to my liking I am giving up and will be giving this piece of junk away to some deserving soul. As to the computer itself, I must also say I find the keyboard rather unresponsive, but otherwise it seems like a good enough machine. Alas, the operating system renders it worthless.

Travel; storing photos and internet access. Works just as I'd intended with the addition of a mouse. In spite of Win 8!

Comments about Acer Aspire V5-131-2449 11.6" Notebook Computer (Silver):

This laptop is quite thin and lightweight. The picture quality is surprisingly good. The speed is acceptable for what I use it for (I don't play video games). The amount of pre-installed bloatware is sizable, but other manufacturers put even more. During my first couple months of use, there has been one isolated glitch which looked alarming: the screen didn't turn on when the laptop was powered up from its sleep mode. I could only see faint flickering of grey on the black screen. The reboot solved this issue, and it never occurred since then. I was planning to use this computer as a portable photo storage device on my trips but that little incident somehow makes me hesitant and raises reliability concerns. But it might have been a software issue. Speaking of which, I am not thrilled by Windows 8 (this Acer product provided my first experience with it), but I am not going to comment on it much since I am reviewing a piece of hardware here, not the OS.
The tactile feel of the keyboard is a little cheap, but then again this is an inexpensive computer.
There seems to be no Caps Lock indicator light. Except when you are on the login screen where you see a note when Caps Lock is on, you never know whether it is on or off
