Rock out, take speakerphone calls and charge USB-powered devices with the Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker. This versatile sound system features a stereo speaker array with dual passive radiators and a subwoofer that work to deliver an impressive 40 watts of audio power.

Pair the speaker with Bluetooth wireless devices and enjoy your tunes wirelessly at up to 30' away. The speaker is also compatible with Near Field Communications technology (NFC). This allows you to align the NFC logo with the logo on another NFC compatible device in order to turn the speaker on, activate Bluetooth, pair the devices and start streaming your music.

The speaker features damperless magnetic fluid speakers for clear vocals with minimal distortion. Dual passive radiators work with the subwoofer and speakers to produce deep, rich bass. Additionally, Clear Phase DSP (Digital Signal Processor) technology allows instruments and vocals to sound more like a live performance.

If you get a call on your phone while listening to music, simply hit the speakerphone button for hands-free conversations. An added bonus is the built-in USB port that lets you charge USB-powered devices like a smartphone or tablet. The speaker has an internal rechargeable battery that lasts for up to seven hours of playback. Or, you can connect it to AC power using the included adapter.

Comments about Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker:

This speaker is one of those timeless pieces of equipment that manifest the state-of-the-art. MSRP was too steep for me to justify but these folks/buyers at B&H know their stuff and have again helped me out by sourcing the best equipment at closeout prices long after other's inventories are depleted.

Superior full range drivers aren't directional like separate mids & tweeters.

Superior bass radiators are all forward firing, not requiring back-wall placement.

DLNA is still a "project" and the constant tinkering has yet to belong in this type of product.

Bluetooth 3 vs 4 doesn't matter, A2DP and APT-X codecs do, and this product has them.

Sony way overbuilt this product to make a big splash of an entrance in the field and to try and knock another mfg off its undeserved pedestal.

The current models do not enjoy the same damx-the-cost qualities.

These are not pocket portables, but they do have as much battery life as the phone you would use to drive it in such situations.

"Heavy/bulky" indeed, but no complaints about vibrating itself or other items off the table!

I sure could justify two for the original MSRP of one! Gave one to my son for Christmas.

    Good luck!

    THANK YOU B&H

Comments about Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker:

I purchased the speaker to use it at work. The speaker is easy to set up and use. Plug in to charge and you can pair it with your phone fairly easily as you can with any blue tooth device. My OnePlus One paired quickly and sounds FANTASTIC (the phone has a great EQ but the speaker doesn't need it). It looks good to top it off. I like the base and volume. It does sound better with the sound enhancements (use the button on the side to select surround plus bass or just extra bass). I do like the design and the weight. Some people might think is heavy but I think is the sign of a good speaker. Light speakers do not always sound great or even good. This think comes with a protective pouch which I like, I want to protect this speaker during transport. Did I say it looks good? I mean elegant.
It is not perfect. The highs are not what I like them to be, but it is a minor complaint considering how good the rest of the sound is. Size wise, it is a tad large but it makes up for the very spacious sound. Off axis sound is good in my opinion and it is help by the size.

Comments about Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker:

Sound quality is far superior to the BIG JAMBOX which is comparable in price. I have a family where everyone wants to DJ and wields a device with Bluetooth. This allows us all to pair with it, but only one at a time can control it. Really simple to switch (one person disconnects in their BT settings, the other person connects). Then we can share our favorite music easily and it sounds amazing, even in a large room 30'x20'. My only gripe after using it nearly non-stop for 3 days is that in the late evening, playing music at a low volume can be a challenge, as the minimum interval step of the BT volume control on an iPhone is still a bit loud for a bedroom...

This product had everything I wanted.

            1) 6-Hour Battery
            2) AUX cable in.
            3) Wireless
            4) Charge mobile device via USB

For the price, the speaker is really good. It could be better, but the 40 watts can get really loud and clear at the same time.

It's nice I can connect wireless to this device anywhere in my house.

Comments about Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker:

Bought this product for my son going to college. Wanted a bluetooth speaker that is not so small that it could easily be taken without being immediately noticed, and that has a full balanced sound with adequate base and detailed highs. The Sony BTX500 fills both needs. It sounds great, and is large and heavy enough that it can't easily be hidden in a coat pocket or even a backpack without being noticed. But is not so haevy that it can't be taken to the beach, picnic, etc. As an added bonus it is a speakerphone when paired to cell phone.

Comments about Sony Premium Bluetooth Wireless Speaker:

I've used the BTX500 for 1 day. I'm not thrilled, but I'm happy overall and won't be returning the device.

Using a wired connection, the the sound quality the BTX500 was not as good as a cheaper Audioengine 2. The Audioengine has greater clarity, but is less room-filling, and it's wired.

Over bluetooth, out-of-the-box sound quality takes a hit, but there is an option to stream audio using an AAC codec and that makes a huge difference. Using this codec makes bluetooth audio indistinguishable to a wired connection. This perceived improvement in audio quality might be psychological, but the performance benefits are tangible and significant.

I tested the bluetooth connection (with and without AAC) by playing an mp4 video and Netflix using an HTC One, Nexus 7 (2013), and Nokia Lumia 920. My primary concern was audio sync and whether there would be any lag or delay in sound.

I tested the mp4 on the HTC One. The audio played with a slight lag, but it wasn't terrible. After enabling the AAC codec, the HTC audio still didn't sync perfectly, but it wasn't off by much. I wouldn't notice the lag unless I looked closely.

Out-of-box, Netflix was unwatchable on both Android devices (running Android 4.3). Video would stutter and audio would crackle. Flashing the latest radio on the HTC One made the problem much worse. On the Lumia, there was only a slight audio lag. After the AAC codec was enabled, Netflix on the HTC One was watchable with a slightly longer lag than an mp4. After a few minutes of watching, I'd still notice the clear lag, but I could live with it. The Lumia now syncs perfectly. The Nexus 7... well it didn't improve at all. Probably doesn't support the AAC codec over Bluetooth?

For music, sync doesn't matter and the sound is good. It's not better than a cheaper set of high quality, powered, wired desktop speakers (Audioengine 2), but I can't imagine another portable bluetooth speaker being noticeably better. I have no doubt there are better sounding bluetooth or wireless speakers, but I can grab the BTX500 and move it to another room fairly easily, it has a lithium-ion battery, build quality is great (I love the metal kickstand), and the NFC pairing is a great feature.

The AAC codec (or maybe aptX?), made a big difference and I won't buy another bluetooth product without it. I'm disappointed that reviewers haven't made a big deal of this and I hope manufacturers continue to see value in adding this feature to their products.

There's no denying that this is the best or one of the best bluetooth speakers in this price range, but I wonder if they can change the design somehow and improve audio a bit. If there was a battery between the right and left speakers of the Audioengine 2 and it was all sealed together, it would sound better than the Sony (and look terrible), but just imagining that product - its clear that better sound can be crammed into a portable speaker.
