The LCDVF4N Loupe from Kinotehnik is designed specifically for the Nikon D800 and D800E digital cameras, which have 3.2" LCD screens. It features an achromatic lens pair consisting of two optical components vacuum-cemented together to form an achromatic doublet, which is computer-optimized to correct for on-axis spherical and chromatic aberrations. It has a 40mm-wide aperture and magnifies images 220%. Additionally, while it does not actually feature a diopter and is set to 0 by default, it allows for the use of eyeglasses or contact lenses with prescriptions of +0.5 to -2.

By blocking out stray light that causes glare, the LCDVF4N enables you to view the LCD during photo and video capture in direct sunlight. Additionally, the loupe features an anti-reflective coating and is splash / dust-proof. It can also rotate 180° for easy switching between right and left-eye use. The loupe permits the use of the battery and wireless grip, as well as all other original accessories.

The LCDVF4N has no moving parts. Its magnetic metal frame is housed in a plastic clip-on frame that attaches to the camera's LCD monitor in the same way as its original screen protector, for quick, easy mounting and removal without any wear and tear. No adhesive is used. The loupe's body is constructed from impact-resistant ABS, while the supplied eyecup and eye cushion are made of silicone rubber and Bluestar microfiber, respectively. Also included are a protective neoprene pouch, a lanyard and a cleaning cloth.

THE GOOD:- Simple, practical, works as advertised!- Makes GIGANTIC (!!!) difference in bright sunlight!- Easy to detach in order to switch to viewfinder photo mode.THE BAD:- Overpriced! Again: Waaaayyyyy overpriced!!! :(- Currently the mounting frames are unavailable separately! That is VERY BAD! :(- Won't fit into the carrying pouch with attached eye-cushion. At least I can't fit it inside. :(DETAILS: I have read some complaints that the mounting frame would not fit onto the D800/800E, but I had NO PROBLEM clipping it on! It was a perfect fit on my Nikon D800! I've also seen other, more "complex" solutions with direct attachments to the body, however, since I needed something that I can easily attach/detach, the more "permanent" solutions would not serve my purpose of switching from Video (LCD) mode to Photo (Viewfinder) and back in a second.I'm glad that the D800 version does not require self-adhesive solutions, because they are not too good in changing weather conditions and cold/hot can destroy such solutions after a short while.I hope that the company will start selling the frames separately as well, since people with multiple identical cameras certainly won't need one unit for each of their camera, instead, only need a frame and switch the Loupe from one to another.Pricewise, it is absolutely RIDICULOUS! With tax, it's over $[$]bucks? SERIOUSLY??? :(However, I still got it happily to resolve the irritating problem of shooting "blind" in strong sunlight, because using my hand as a shade or trying other, similar solutions, surely wouldn't help the way this little unit does. The lack of diopter changing is a big "miss" in this version, and I believe a simple solution could have been implemented, especially for this price (!!!), but I'm sure they will start offering such new models in the near future.BOTTOM LINE: Do I recommend it? YES!!! Am I happy with it? YES!!! Is it "perfect"? FAR from it! Is it worth it? Well, that's for each to decide.I've got mine and I know (!!!) it will make a huge difference while shooting outside with bright sunlight for sure! So, I guess: SIMPLICITY CAN BE GREAT! :D

I bought this because I shoot mirror up a lot. So thought use the live view mode to focus save me the mirror step. I choose this one because I like the idea and don't want to use the tripod mount option since I have L bracket for trip on the camera. To use it, you need to take off the Nikon LCD protect. So I installed Vello LCD protector to protect my LCD. I guess because of that, the mounting frame won't stay on. That make it hard to use it. Besides, the rotation is 180 degree. So it is not comfortable for vertical shots. The pouch is too tight to fit the loupe.

Works great in sunlight. Magnets hold tight. I just wish my lcd screen on my D800 was a bit higher in resolution. Maybe a D810 in my future.

Used in outdoor sunny situations to aid exposure and focus. Had to buy a new one because the old neck strap broke and I lost it. Magnets weaken after about a year.

Product works great. Easy to view LCD screen in bright light. Holds to metal strip which is placed around the LCD. Keeps both hands free. Easily detaches when done. Much easier to use than other loupes in the marketplace.

                            Would highly recommend to others.

This is my third LCDVF purchase. All are built similarly, but this one comes with a new mounting system that attaches just like the stock screen protector. I am not sure what other reviewers are doing differently than me, but mine works just fine.

The magnets are not as strong as some would like, but they did not present any issue for me. Previous unit's I've owned did have stronger magnets, but I wonder if that's been toned down because of this particular camera, or this mount system.

In any event, I am very pleased with mine.

It is very hard to see your pictures on a digital camera out side, this loupe is great and easy to use. Great product.

Needs stronger magnets, came off if i bump it against something. Also did not work well with eyeglasses.

I do not recommend this version. The optics are great, but the mounting hardware does not stay on the D800. I would recommend you get the version that sticks on.

Not sure if the frame was redesigned after the previous reviewer received his, but the mounting frame included my kit fit my D800 perfectly. Great LCD loupe package at a fraction of the price of a Zacuto.

Includes the must have Bluestar eye cushion and a nice neoprene carry case.

Beware if you need diopter adjustment as this loupe does not have that feature.

I thought the concept behind the product was well conceived. However, the frame that is supposed to attach to the D800 in the same manner as the screen protector will NOT attach, therefore rendering the product useless.
