Comments about Hauppauge HD Personal Video Recorder 2:

This is a very interesting piece of equipment, which I bought to record some programs from my DVR (it seems I record more than I watch, so eventually I run out of space). The PVR was a little cranky at first and setup wasn't quite as straightforward as I would have liked, but eventually I was able to record HD programming. The setup included component video and optical audio connections. I would have liked to use the HDMI connection from DVR to HD PVR2 in pass through mode to the AV receiver, but content protection ruled that out. Perhaps new software might help eventually. The Capture software includes an editing mode which is great for clipping off the beginning and ends of programs where your recorder manages to capture some commercials in addition to program content. It did not work to cut out commercials in the middle of the programs. All in all, it does what it claims but be prepared to spend a couple of hours tweaking setups before becoming proficient. A good piece of equipment but I'm hoping for a software update.
