Speaking of the interface, the FamilyPad 2 runs the user-friendly Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean allows you to customize your home screen, add widgets and make the FamilyPad 2 run the way you want it to.

The system is powered by a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor with integrated quad-core ARM Mali 400 MP4 graphics. It also has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of flash storage, a microSD card slot that can expand up to 64GB, a micro-USB port and a mini HDMI port. There is also a built-in speaker and microphone. If you prefer a more immersive listening experience, you can use the 3.5mm headphone jack.

The FamilyPad 2 also has two integrated cameras. The front 2-megapixel camera is used for 720p video chatting with friends and family. The rear 2-megapixel camera can also be used in video chats as well as to take high quality photos. The FamilyPad 2 has up to 10 hours of battery life with video playback (battery life may vary depending on use) and up to 6 days of standby time (also may vary).

Even with its high resolution, the FamilyPad 2 can achieve up to 10 hours of video playback (battery life may vary depending on use)
Dual-Core ARM Cortex A9 Performance
The FamilyPad2 has a dual-core 1.6GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, combined with quad-core ARM Mali 400 MP4 graphics, which delivers plenty of processing power for Android to run quickly and efficiently

The mini HDMI port on the FamilyPad 2 allows you to output video to a HDTV (mini HDMI to HDMI cable sold separately). This is great for watching videos and sharing photos to friends and family on the big screen. If you're running out of space, you can use the microSD card slot to expand your memory up to 64GB

    Best Uses

      Comments about Archos 8GB FamilyPad 2 Multi-Touch 13.3" Tablet:

The main problems with this tablet are the following:1) Difficult touch detection when using a screen protector. Very inconsistent.2) Sound volume is ridiculously low and audio quality shoddy.3) Slow to get going when coming back from sleep, usually due to updating synchs etc. that otherwise are instantaneous on an android phone.4) Cannot install apps onto the memory card...Like pre-Android 4.1 update, although it is at least Android 4.1. Odd.5) Periodically crashes, especially when using Chrome.6) Sometimes inexplicably looses internet connection and may need to be restarted to reconnect on rare occasions.Positives:1) HUGE screen, and light for what it is. Practically razor thin.2) Awesome picture quality.Originally got this for my 72-year-old mom, but it has been real difficult to teach her how to use it with the ridiculous number of hiccups we have had and lack of smooth response after coming back from sleep. Has made it practically useless since she will try clicking 4 times in different places by the time the thing responds to the first input, thus confusing her and making things a nightmare. Currently trying to not use Chrome and not to use the built-in google search function to see if that will mitigate the issue, since we have had better luck with searches not crashing that way.Archos has zero support, by the way. Tried many times. They purposely intend not to help customers. Sell people a lemon, and run with the money, I guess...HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED, unless you are very good tech-wise and can troubleshoot the problems yourself to get the most reliable performance possible. Not especially user-friendly. Using the Nook HD+ right now and I know, even with the smaller screen, that this would have been a much better choice for my mom, and for anybody. Around 65% cheaper, too. Since I can't return this, I am regretting not having gone with a Google or Samsung unit, or even another Nook HD+.Best of luck to you!

      Comments about Archos 8GB FamilyPad 2 Multi-Touch 13.3" Tablet:

I love this thing .I started with an iPad ,then went to the 10 inch Toshiba Thrive which I have logged thousands of hours on. The Family Pad is the biggest and also the best tablet yet. This screen size means that the virtual keyboard is as large as a full size computer but easier .

      Comments about Archos 8GB FamilyPad 2 Multi-Touch 13.3" Tablet:

I like this product overall. Good value. I use it to read pdf's without having to need to use my reading glasses. It could be a bit faster, but in general the speed is fine. Also, a few times, I needed to reset it when it started to act wacky. That only happened twice. If they were to come out with a new version with higher than 800 line resolution (as this one has) this would be a killer tablet for reading pdf's.

        Comments about Archos 8GB FamilyPad 2 Multi-Touch 13.3" Tablet:

I've been looking for a long time for a larger-format tablet that wouldn't break the bank. So far, it's met if not exceeded all my expectations.

At 3 lbs, you would think it heavy, but for its size, it's surprisingly light and amazingly thin (compared to a Motorola Xoom, my previous tablet).

For me, it's not so much a media-consumption device as an electronic notebook: to-dos (Wunderlist), notes (Evernote) and file access (Dropbox) all sync with desktops, and I've impressed the folks at work using the HDMI output to record brainstorming sessions with a drawing app.

And above all, it's large enough for a musician to put on a music stand. I did an outdoor job last weekend (in the shade, the glossy finish might be glary in the sun) and it did admirably with a PDF-reading app.

Archos markets this tablet mostly for family gaming, but I think it has far more uses in other areas, and could finally convince people that large-format Android is worth it.

The one drawback: no Bluetooth, but there are USB keyboards that will work with tables should you need it.
