The black MeFoto RoadTrip Travel Tripod Kit offers a sturdy, compact aluminum alloy tripod that extends to 61.6", supports up to 17.6 lb, and folds down to just over 15". The RoadTrip is actually two camera supports in one. A foam-cushioned, removable leg attaches to the center column to convert to full size monopod.

The tripod's legs can be spread independently, with two-position leg angle stops. A spring-loaded hook is located in a recess at the bottom of the center column, allowing you to hang a heavy object from it for additional stability.

The ball head offers separate head and pan locks, a 360° pan index, and an integral bubble level. An Arca-type quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera screw is included in the kit, along with a durable carry case with a shoulder strap for storage and transport.

Two Position Leg Angle Stops
For an extra measure of flexibility, tripod legs can be independently locked into place at two different angles to enable shooting in cramped quarters, on uneven terrain or at low camera angles.
Foam Grip on Monopod Leg
Provides comfort while carrying, especially in extreme temperatures.
Rapid Center Column
Uses the same twist-lock system as the legs for fast setup.
Recessed Center Column Hook
A spring loaded recessed hook, located in the bottom of the center column, allows you to hang a heavy object for increased stability.
Quick Twist Rubber Lock Grips with Anti-Rotation Leg System
MeFoto's rubberized locking grips combined with anti-rotation legs enable fast and fumble-free setup plus weather and dust resistance.
Precision Matched Ball Head
Dual-action heavy duty ball head with Arca-type compatible quick-release plate.
360 Degree Panning
Accurate panoramas can be easily accomplished using the graduated panning scale for accurate image alignment.
Separate Head and Pan Lock
Individual locking knobs make adjustments easy.
Integral Bubble Level
The bubble level allows you to make accurate adjustments for seamless panoramas.
Carrying Case
Each MeFoto tripod comes with its own carrying case for transport and protection.

The compactness of this tripod encourages me to take it wherever I go. I read a review that the best camera is the one you have with you. The same is true for tripods. I didn't take one to San Francisco because my old one wouldn't fit in my carry-on. So, my night shot of the Golden Gate Bridge is less than sharp. THAT convinced me to get a different one. I shopped them "to death" and finally chose this one. It is compact, lightweight (only 1/2 pound heavier than the Carbon Fiber) and is very sturdy/stable. The screw type locks for the legs work smoothly and easily. The standard ball head is smooth and seems strong. The weight hook is spring loaded so it is not protruding. It comes with a nice carrying case. If I were to recommend a change it would be to add a couple of rings to attach the strap from the carrying case so it could be carried without the case and using the case strap.

Practical and usefull, not fully stable

Easy and quick to be manipulated, it can provide good pictures but isn't fully stable when you touch the camera.

Comments about RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Black):

Do you know sometimes when you are out shooting you wish you had a light weight tripod, one that you can just carry without much fussing? Well this is the tripod for you then! I've got big heavy equipment and this tripod delivers on the fact you can comfortably put your big cameras on this tripod. I highly recommend this light weight but sturdy tripod.

This tripod/monopod is extremely well build and very useful. i have used in both configuration. In the monopod set up I used it to take photos of a grade school theaatrical production and the results were amazing.

I would recommend this a a very compact and useful addition.

My first tripod was a cheap @ tripod. When the head finally snapped off I knew it was time to invest in a 'real tripod'. I knew I wanted a great travel tripod. I found the Mefoto Roadtrip & Globetrotter early in my search, but shopped around for a good 4-5 months just to be sure it was the one I wanted. I finally got the Roadtrip & wish I didn't wait so long! It's very compact, light & SO sturdy! Highly recommend!

It's not the lightest in the world, but it's small, tough, well-made, and an excellent tripod. I've been very happy with it. The leg locks have been quick and easy too. I appreciate the nice ball-head too. It's also comfortable for me to use and I'm 6' tall. You can spend more for a tripod, but I hope you have a good reason!

Comments about MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Black):

This tripod is not exactly light at 3.6 lbs and it's not exactly small for travel but it's strong and sturdy even for the heaviest of gear.

I bought this tripod mainly for travel. For local use, I already have a much heavier and larger tripod. What I ended up doing is using this tripod even for local use because it is so portable and sturdy.

The tripod is highly functional, well-built and stable. The ball head is smooth and locks positively for my camera/lens combo which weighs 7 lbs +.

The ability to convert into a monopod is fantastic...it is the main reason I chose this over others. It can be converted by removing the center section and one of the tripod legs. The monopod can be put together in under a minute with practice.

Be careful on who you show it to when travelling though. On my recent trip through Vietnam, I showed it to a local photographer friend and he was drooling over the tripod, at the end of the trip I gave it to him. I came back and bought another one for myself. That's how much I like this tripod.

This tripod is solid and, overall, well made. I like that it can be fairly easily configured into a monopod. A note of caution I unscrewed one of the legs and I noticed that the internal piece that is tightened in to hold the leg is fairly breakable plastic. It will be interesting to see how long this holds up, normally it is well protected in the leg.

Comments about MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod Kit (Black):

The quality of the RoadTrip is much better than I expected. All of the parts are precisely made and beautifully finished. (I recommend getting a color, the anodized finish actually seems to glow.) I was a little concerned about the twist-lock legs, but after using them I found them to be just as efficient as the lever-locks on a Manfrotto tripod I own. The rotation is short and secure, and you can turn all of them at once for rapid leg deployment. Because the twist is so short, collapsing the legs is also very quick.

I'm using the tripod with a MFT camera and a large telephoto zoom without any concerns of stability. However, a full-size DSLR and long lens might overwhelm the RoadTrip. Extending the last leg section also reduces stability, but it's not a concern except when it's very windy.

The ball head is amazing smooth and holds its position when locked. (I've read a few reviews that complained about roughness and the head not maintaining its position, but this has not been my experience.) If you mount the camera correctly with the bubble level to the rear, you should be able to see it without difficulty. The mounting plate screw requires a wrench (provided) to attach the plate to the camera, and that can be a little awkward. I replaced the standard screw with a D-ring screw that I found with a quick web search. And contrary to some reviews, I've found the drag control to be quite useful to compensate for the weight of different equipment.

The tripod's quality, light weight, compact folded size, included ground spikes and carrying case make it an exceptional value.

One of the best features of this product is that it folds up, and when unfolded, it is solid as a rock.
I would have hoped that the unit had retraceable spikes. All in all, a good, well built tripod.

First off, I was a little put off by ordering a blue tripod (one of the many colors they offer), but it was $20 cheaper than the black, so blue is great! While I'm sure that pro photographers would scoff at a "toyish" blue tripod, believe me when I say that this offers pro performance where it counts: stability and features.

I was concerned about stability, mainly because this thing is so tall and has 5 leg sections, the smallest being fairly thin. After testing it with a laser pointer and remote shutter, I'm happy to say that it is quite stable, causing very little camera movement.

While it's slightly heavier than my old Induro AB0 (3.6lbs to 2.6lbs), it's still quite light and it folds up incredibly compact, allowing for great portability.

The ball head took me a little while to get used to, but now that I am I really love it. There is no slippage whatsoever even with my heavy lens, and it provides a separate knob for horizontal panning, perfect for simple panoramas.

I have not had this out on the road yet but my review from inside is great. My concern was using the quick release plate because I use a Black Rapid strap. I called MeFoto to see if I could use a Manfrotto RC2 plate and they said it was not compatible. After going to my local camera store I found that I could attach my RC2 QR plate to the supplied Arca Swiss Plate. The Tripod fully extended holds my Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 and Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 with no problem. I look forward to taking this tripod on vacation to Hawaii this summer. It will fot into a carry on suit case and with the case the tripod comes in will be easy to carry with me when I go on my photgraphic journey.

Looked for quite a while for a tripod that would meet my needs...relatively lightweight and folding down compactly for hiking and outdoor shooting, but also built robustly and stabile enough to stay standing when hit by that gust of wind on the mountaintop. Plus extendable to a height where I don't have to contort to use the viewfinder. This tripod fit the bill perfectly, and at a reasonable cost. Looking forward to many years of use!

A big, heavy, and super stable tripod is great if you take it with you. I wouldn't so I found this to be the perfect compromise. It works great for landscape, sunsets, and even night photography.

I purchased this last summer so have had opportunities to use it many times now. The only thing close to a negative for me is that being aluminum it weighs in at 3.6 lbs, but on the other hand it has a very nice case and folds up to less than 16 inches. It is very well made and I have had no issues with it. I have used it many times with my 55-300 zoom lens with no issues. The ball head is very well built. I do use a 2 second shutter delay to allow additional damping but would do so with any tripod.

                                Why I bought it:

                                - My wife and I do road trips in a two-seat sports car and space is at a premium.

                                - I hike and backpack and this works well for that other than the fact it is not carbon fiber but for wilderness landscapes in low light you really need a tripod and this, for me, is a perfect compromise between quality, weight and stability.

                                - It took a little bit to figure out the first time but I can turn it into a monopod in a about 60 seconds which I do occasionally when birding with a longer lens.

                                - Legs can set at normal or very wide for low to the ground shots.

The quality of the ball head is excellent and very sturdy but also easy to adjust. Set up is easy; just grip and turn on four rubber leg locks at once to slide them out. Almost as fast a levers.

This is one of those rare purchases where I have zero regrets and would purchase it again in a heart beat. There may be better but the value on this is high in my opinion. The build quality is very solid and when I go out I just grab the excellent case and toss it in my car.

This is a great product to use for taking pictures that need a tripod with slow sutter speed. I take it with me at night to capture great pictures on the go. i like how compact it is to carry around and quick to set up. the head is strong and with my Canon 7D with a 70-200 monunted on it, this thing is solid.

Super solid, maybe a little heavy for long backpacking, but great for my Nikon D610. Really like the ability to turn it into a steady monopod.
