The black MeFoto RoadTrip Travel Tripod Kit offers a sturdy, compact aluminum alloy tripod that extends to 61.6", supports up to 17.6 lb, and folds down to just over 15". The RoadTrip is actually two camera supports in one. A foam-cushioned, removable leg attaches to the center column to convert to full size monopod.

The tripod's legs can be spread independently, with two-position leg angle stops. A spring-loaded hook is located in a recess at the bottom of the center column, allowing you to hang a heavy object from it for additional stability.

The ball head offers separate head and pan locks, a 360° pan index, and an integral bubble level. An Arca-type quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 camera screw is included in the kit, along with a durable carry case with a shoulder strap for storage and transport.

Two Position Leg Angle Stops
For an extra measure of flexibility, tripod legs can be independently locked into place at two different angles to enable shooting in cramped quarters, on uneven terrain or at low camera angles.
Foam Grip on Monopod Leg
Provides comfort while carrying, especially in extreme temperatures.
Rapid Center Column
Uses the same twist-lock system as the legs for fast setup.
Recessed Center Column Hook
A spring loaded recessed hook, located in the bottom of the center column, allows you to hang a heavy object for increased stability.
Quick Twist Rubber Lock Grips with Anti-Rotation Leg System
MeFoto's rubberized locking grips combined with anti-rotation legs enable fast and fumble-free setup plus weather and dust resistance.
Precision Matched Ball Head
Dual-action heavy duty ball head with Arca-type compatible quick-release plate.
360 Degree Panning
Accurate panoramas can be easily accomplished using the graduated panning scale for accurate image alignment.
Separate Head and Pan Lock
Individual locking knobs make adjustments easy.
Integral Bubble Level
The bubble level allows you to make accurate adjustments for seamless panoramas.
Carrying Case
Each MeFoto tripod comes with its own carrying case for transport and protection.

The compactness of this tripod encourages me to take it wherever I go. I read a review that the best camera is the one you have with you. The same is true for tripods. I didn't take one to San Francisco because my old one wouldn't fit in my carry-on. So, my night shot of the Golden Gate Bridge is less than sharp. THAT convinced me to get a different one. I shopped them "to death" and finally chose this one. It is compact, lightweight (only 1/2 pound heavier than the Carbon Fiber) and is very sturdy/stable. The screw type locks for the legs work smoothly and easily. The standard ball head is smooth and seems strong. The weight hook is spring loaded so it is not protruding. It comes with a nice carrying case. If I were to recommend a change it would be to add a couple of rings to attach the strap from the carrying case so it could be carried without the case and using the case strap.

Practical and usefull, not fully stable

Easy and quick to be manipulated, it can provide good pictures but isn't fully stable when you touch the camera.

I have not had this out on the road yet but my review from inside is great. My concern was using the quick release plate because I use a Black Rapid strap. I called MeFoto to see if I could use a Manfrotto RC2 plate and they said it was not compatible. After going to my local camera store I found that I could attach my RC2 QR plate to the supplied Arca Swiss Plate. The Tripod fully extended holds my Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 and Nikon 70-200mm F2.8 with no problem. I look forward to taking this tripod on vacation to Hawaii this summer. It will fot into a carry on suit case and with the case the tripod comes in will be easy to carry with me when I go on my photgraphic journey.

        Excellent portable tripod

        By Timothy

        from Pittsburgh

Looked for quite a while for a tripod that would meet my needs...relatively lightweight and folding down compactly for hiking and outdoor shooting, but also built robustly and stabile enough to stay standing when hit by that gust of wind on the mountaintop. Plus extendable to a height where I don't have to contort to use the viewfinder. This tripod fit the bill perfectly, and at a reasonable cost. Looking forward to many years of use!

A big, heavy, and super stable tripod is great if you take it with you. I wouldn't so I found this to be the perfect compromise. It works great for landscape, sunsets, and even night photography.

I purchased this last summer so have had opportunities to use it many times now. The only thing close to a negative for me is that being aluminum it weighs in at 3.6 lbs, but on the other hand it has a very nice case and folds up to less than 16 inches. It is very well made and I have had no issues with it. I have used it many times with my 55-300 zoom lens with no issues. The ball head is very well built. I do use a 2 second shutter delay to allow additional damping but would do so with any tripod.

          Why I bought it:

          - My wife and I do road trips in a two-seat sports car and space is at a premium.

          - I hike and backpack and this works well for that other than the fact it is not carbon fiber but for wilderness landscapes in low light you really need a tripod and this, for me, is a perfect compromise between quality, weight and stability.

          - It took a little bit to figure out the first time but I can turn it into a monopod in a about 60 seconds which I do occasionally when birding with a longer lens.

          - Legs can set at normal or very wide for low to the ground shots.

The quality of the ball head is excellent and very sturdy but also easy to adjust. Set up is easy; just grip and turn on four rubber leg locks at once to slide them out. Almost as fast a levers.

This is one of those rare purchases where I have zero regrets and would purchase it again in a heart beat. There may be better but the value on this is high in my opinion. The build quality is very solid and when I go out I just grab the excellent case and toss it in my car.

This is a great product to use for taking pictures that need a tripod with slow sutter speed. I take it with me at night to capture great pictures on the go. i like how compact it is to carry around and quick to set up. the head is strong and with my Canon 7D with a 70-200 monunted on it, this thing is solid.

Great tripod in general. Very small, but the flip side is that it takes awhile to unfold, and can be time-consuming if you're on the move. Joints all work smoothly. The level in the top of the tripod often is hidden beneath the camera, but you can peek underneath and almost see it clearly.

I was looking for a sturdy tripod that would take the weight of long lenses but light enough to carry while walking all day. My MeFOTO RoadTrip Aluminum Travel Tripod is compact enough to carry without smacking people near me. Although I haven't used this feature yet one of the legs breaks down as a monopod. I know that I'll be using that feature on future outings.

Sturdy, compact, full size and easy to transport
Not as light as I hoped but perfect for digiscoping or a large lens set up.
Lacks a control handle and the miltidirectional system - basically a ball joint with a drag to prevent loss of control - take a little getting used to.
But l in all - highly recommended for a serious photographer in need of a portable platform.

I am totaly satisfied with this little ALL IN ONE piece of perfection !

                                    1) Ball head is a huge time saver to get level

                                    2) Monopod option is a big +

                                    3) Compact enough to fit in a small backpack

                                    4) Aluminum is lite enough, no need for carbon

                                    5) Price varie depending of the color, quite stupid but representative of our actual society,... buy the grey one, lowest price level and look pretty good if beauty is one of your concern

I am using that tripod with a GH3

Everything seems to be well built.

I purchased this tripod to keep in my truck and take hiking/backpacking. I have been presently surprised with this tripod. It isn't too heavy folds down quite small and is fairly sturdy for an inexpensive tripod. The only problem I have had with this tripod is the drag control knob which has become frozen on both of these tripods I have owned. To be honest I'm not even sure why it is on the ballhead? I never used it anyway and it doesn't effect the functionality of the tripod but if something is part of the product I expect it to work hence the 4 star rating rather than 5 star.

Overall this tripod/ballhead feels well built/solid, fits in my backpack and is much sturdier than previous tripods I've owned.

This was chosen after a lot of research and reading of reviews. The tripos is well made, comact, relatively light and easy to use. The carry bag is hugh quality. I have used the tripod with a canon 6D and a Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS lens, it's on the boarder of its capacity for this combination but still performs well

this tripod is a little more weighty than i hoped, but the build quality, ease to use, and sturdiness is the best i ever seen. it has one of the highest weight ratings for the head from what i've seen, and when using my 100-400 i dont want to have to worry. Once again, aluminium, strong qaulity build. Don't imagine i'll ever get rid of this. well worth the money!

Solid and compact. Converts into mono-pod or a walking stick for crossing small streams. Look for the manual and spiked feet in hidden zipper pocket. You can buy something cheaper but I don't think it will hold up as well as this brand and model.

I am very happy with the MEFOTO tripod. It comes in a high quality zip case. The tripod comes apart easily and importantly, folds easily and fits back into the case. It's sturdy, stable and lightweight. I will definitely travel with this.
