Comments about Beyerdynamic M160 - Ribbon Mic:

I usually put two mics on electric guitar, and this is always one of them. This captures the bright, shimmering fuzz and distortion, and the other mic will usually capture the rest.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M160 - Ribbon Mic:

Great mic for the money. I like it on guitar amps, snare, and toms in particular. As a drum OH it lacks some of the fatness of something like a Coles 4038, but it also has a little more high end detail (closer to an SDC, perhaps). The hypercardiod aspect is super helpful for working with bleed and getting a focused sound.

No complaints at all. Loved these as overheads, drum room, on guitar cabs, and toms. Super detailed with a smooth top end. Buying another pair as soon as I can...

Comments about Beyerdynamic M160 - Ribbon Mic:

After reading all the rave reviews I finally decided to pick up one of these 160s. I decided to give it a try for the first time on a small fender champ and BAM! It just nailed the kind of vibe I was going for. A very nice upper midrange response paired with an incredible foundation in the lower mids. I also tried it as a mono overhead on drums and was equally impressed with how the transients in the cymbals came through. I certainly intend on purchasing another as soon as possible to have a stereo pair on a kit or for percussion. Make no mistake, buy two when you do!

Comments about Beyerdynamic M160 - Ribbon Mic:

I've used this mic as a mono drum overhead to record lo-fi/hard funk/soul/breakbeat drums. It sounds amazing with my Tascam 388 1/4" 8-track. The Beyer M160 as overhead and a AKG D112 on the kick is an amazing combo for this style of production. Also used it to mic guitar amps, which sounds great as well.

Comments about Beyerdynamic M160 - Ribbon Mic:

I had high expectations when I bought this mic, and it easily beat my expectations. In the week I've had the mic, it's been used on live acoustic guitar--where its hypercardioid pattern allows excellent gain before feedback while sounding like a real guitar. I used it on my voice and it stands up well against the best dynamic and ribbon mics I ever used, (yes, I know ribbon mics ARE dynamics.) I've always preferred ribbon mics on electric guitar, and the M160 delivers a well-rounded and accurate rendering on my deluxe reverb amp. Just beautiful there!

I haven't tried it yet as an overhead or room mic, but from what I've heard so far, it will do fine there as well.

Typical Beyer fit and finish. You know this is quality the first second you pick it up.

I haven't found anything to complain about yet, nor do I expect to.
