Product Highlights
  • Use as Neck/Sling Strap or Safety Tether
  • Two-Piece System / Strap and Anchor
  • Anchor Ties to Strap Lug or D-ring
  • Anchor Quick-Connects to Strap
  • One-Handed Quick-Release System
  • Adjustable 19 to 60" Strap

The Leash Camera Strap from Peak Design is a quick-connect system that mounts to any piece of equipment that has a loop or D-ring. Use it as a neck or sling strap for your DSLR, video, mirrorless or point-and-shoot camera. It also works with binoculars, water bottles, and compasses. The strap is designed to smoothly glide across your shoulder and raise your gear to eye level.

This system includes two pieces-an anchor and strap. The anchor attaches to your gear via a cow hitch-two half-hitches looped in opposite directions. Once the anchor is tied to your equipment, it locks to a slot on the strap. The two pieces can be separated with a one-handed push of a button. You can also use more than one anchor on a single piece of equipment by attaching them to different locations on the gear. One might attach to a strap lug while another might be connected to a quick-release plate or second lug. This will save you time if you prefer or need a different shooting configuration. It can also help increase the support the gear receives when attached to the strap.

The strap is made from seatbelt-style webbing and is adjustable from 19 to 60" to accommodate your shooting and comfort preferences. The anchors are made from lightweight (0.09 oz) braided Kevlar overmolded with glass-filled resin. This set includes one strap and four anchors.

I want a quick release strap for the D7000 SLR. OP/Tech and many others sells a quick release buckle. Didn't like the bulky buckle hanging off the camera. Then saw this, and is perfect. The round disks is really elegant design. When the strap is off, only the small round disks remain. Smooth, no sharp corner and out of the way. Once the disk is in the strap, it snaps into a U shaped pocket. Need to pull back up to release. Unlike the buckles, you cannot accidentally release these. These are totally fail safe. Would not loose sleep over these even with a $[$]lens.Wish they only sell the quick release part of the strap. Was going to cut the strap off and just use the quick release. The strap turns out to be ok. Is a narrow strap, so put it away from the neck to be comfortable. Move it outward towards the shoulder to remove pressure on the neck. Strap tends to stay where you move it. Once is further out from the neck, is fine.Got a screw ring for the bottom of the camera and configured the strap as a sling. Actually worked good.If you use a bag, and need quick on/off strap for light duty use, this is a no brainer. If you need a full time strap, and needed a quick release, I think is worth it to get this and cut off the strap just to get the quick release mechanism. They are that innovative.

    Very convienant

Wrist strap could be a bit larger, it is not adjustable.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

This strap is easy to set up and use. It is versatile. The material feels light but it is certainly strong. It is also smooth so it slides along clothing very easily and does not snag and move clothing with it. Overall a good strap.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

The main reason I bought this was because I wanted a quicker way to detach the strap from the camera for use with a glidecam. I think the way the strap connects to the camera is a really good idea. Using this method there are also lots of connection possibilities with my camera. And taking the strap completely off is way quicker and easier. That being said I wish Peak Design offered a neck strap only version. I get they want this strap to function as a sling strap as well as a normal strap but I think its too much of a compromise between both with out being great at either. For my smaller mirroless camera it works fine but for a bigger DSLR camera I don't think this design would be very good at all.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

Overall it is a very functional strap. It does not take up a lot of space and not bulky either. The clip is a bit tight to remove which is advantageous since it is not going to get loose for some odd reason. It is not as comfy as other strap I have used on my heavier DSLR but it is a trade off I have chosen on a lighter M43 OM-D :-)

I use this with my Canon 6D and love the way it sits in the small of my back out of the way when I don't need it and easy to get to when I do. It is feather light and feels secure. The clip system is awesome and easy to use although my wife struggles a bit with her fake nails. Video recording is made stable by pushing forward against your back to steady your hands. The best solution to lugging aroung a heavy camera I have ever used. Thank you Peak Design!

I use this as a sling and a shoulder strap. Adjusts in seconds to accommodate my situation. What I like about it is the fact that it doesn't have a pad that always seems to slide down my back when used as a sling. Too early to tell about the durability of the connectors, will know more in time. Overall I'm quite pleased. I also like that it stores well in my camera bag.

The quick release function is easy fast and secure. Simple but well executed design allows me to add a strap when needed and remove it when it is in my way. This is the function that makes this strap better than all others I have tried. Many of the others were much more expensive but none satisfied my need for security and fast removal like this.

I have owned many camera straps in my day and I can tell you that this is one of the best. I use it mainly as a sling strap and it works very well. I like the sleekness and the unassuming look of it. it is lightweight and feels comfortable. Much better that some of the bulky, over-padded straps I've used in the past. It's size makes it great to store in a pocket when it's not being used and doesn't take up any room in my camera bag. Great product, well done.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

I was looking for a strap that could adjust from very short to very long, and that was easy to remove quickly.

The Peak Leash uses little tabs that attach to your equipment. The tabs then lock positively into the strap. The system seems very secure and unlikely to disconnect unexpectedly. It offers a number of ways of attaching. I have it attached to the tripod plate and right strap loop so the camera hangs sideways. This seems to work nicely with large lenses.

Length adjustment is fast and easy.

I can quickly convert to a sling type strap by disconnecting the right connector so the camera is held solely by the tripod plate. The strap becomes a loop that you slip over your body. This arrangement worked well with the camera on a monopod.

The strap is narrow and unpadded. It may become uncomfortable carrying seriously heavy equipment all day. However my DSLR + long zoom weighs in at around 5 lbs and so far it has been a comfortable setup for hours at a time.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

I use the Leash Camera Strap with a Nikon Df and X100. I use both cameras for street and travel photography. The Leash Strap is just a plain nylon strap and it wads up easily to stuff with the camera in a camera bag. I frequently work from a bag and bulky straps just aren't very convenient for stuffing in and taking out of a bag several times on a city block.

It's the button on the camera and the spring on the receiver that's a critical component to this strap's convenience. It should detach easily for changing the strap hang configuration or exchanging the Leash with the Peak Designs Wrist Cuff. I have both products and like to use them interchangeably.

The springs on the receiver on my Leash are considerably "stiffer" than on my "Cuff". That makes quick removal of the strap a bit difficult IMO. I would prefer a lighter spring tension on the leash, much like on my Cuff.

This is a very slick design.

The button that attaches to the camera is very easy to attach. The Leash length is easy to adjust. All hardware is durable, low mass, non marking.

I like the design very much, it worked on the Fuji XPro 1, but the metal connector with the XT1 is too small and the string with the removable attachment is too thick to fit into, so didn't work.

I was looking for a simple strap long enough to carry cross shoulder but also adjustable to wear as a neck strap. This does it all and more. I haven't tested all of its capabilities but so far I am very pleased.

I love the Peak Design solution for camera straps. I have both the wrist strap and the shoulder strap, and switch between the two depending on what I am using my camera for at the time. The quick release system is fantastic and seems to be very robust and not prone to accidental release. I have the attachment points on both sides of the camera and also connected to my RRS L-plate, which gives a lot of flexibility for carrying options.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

I purchased this strap along with the Peak Design Cuff Wrist Strap for my Olympus OMD E-M5. I love the versatility of this product (neck strap, sling strap, tether).

I used it yesterday for the first time on a 5 mile hike on steep terrain, wearing it in sling fashion. With my Oly 12-50mm lens, it was quite comfortable and I felt the camera was secure to the side of my body the entire time. With a heavier lens, like the Panasonic 100-300mm, or on a much longer hike, the rather narrow strap may begin to chaff. That should be solvable with a strap pad from REI or another sporting goods store; just need to be careful not to defeat the usefulness as a sling.

I purchased the cuff first for my carry around film and mirrorless bodies. I liked it so much I purchased anchors for all my bodies...It just made since to by the leash so I could switch between compact bodies while on my photo outings... It may seem like a lot (maybe not coming from a photographer), but I don't have buyer's regret any of these purchases. The system is just simple and effective...

The thin strap makes hanging camera over sholder much better then using the stap that comes with camera. Dose not feel like i'm not shleeping around another backpack.

Got this with the Capture Pro, and they are a great combo. The strap is a pleasure to use. It isn't bulky like other straps I've used, and it never gets in the way. The locking mechanism is brilliant.

Comments about Peak Design Leash Camera Strap:

This is an interesting camera strap. It is one of the first I've seen that has a quick release besides a buckle. Also, you can actually buy more of the QR parts. There's an included booklet on different positions you can use the strap in but I find that using it as a sling works best. The strap doesn't have any material to cushion the weight of the camera nor does it have any stretch in the material. This can cause some pain after using the strap for a while such as when I hike. The reason they chose this is because the strap is a slick nylon. This allows it to glide over clothing so it can go from camera at your side to shooting position quickly without getting caught on clothing. Overall it works as a camera strap if you only use your camera for a short period of time or if you have a lighter camera (unlike my 7D and battery grip). It's best use is if you have multiple cameras but only want to but 1 strap.
