This Varavon Multifinder Set is designed to offer increased LCD visibility to a Canon 5D Mark III. It provides a mounting plate, an LCD viewer, and a loupe with an eyecup that combine to create a stable viewing system while shooting video on your DSLR camera.

The viewer can be used as a sun shade but also contains a mirror for use as a waist-level low-angle viewfinder. With the viewer open and locking lever released, you can insert the loupe with eyecup in order to film as a stabilized, straight viewfinder. Easily adjust the loupe's focus with its conveniently placed dial.

The mirror is designed to minimize ghosting, allowing you to make sure your image is in focus. The LCD mount is covered in rubber to avoid damaging your screen. The aluminum alloy mounting plate features a 1/4"-20 screw for easily attaching the viewfinder to the tripod socket of your Canon 5D Mark III.

Comments about Varavon Multifinder LCD Viewfinder Set for Canon 5D Mark III:

This viewfinder fits the 5D Mark III perfectly. No need to adjust anything like on the universal models. The viewfinder fits snug right up against the Live View screen with no light leakage. The viewfinder is bright and the viewing area is large. One of the things I like best about this particular brand is the fact that you can open the top, pull the loupe down and use it now as a waist-level shooter. This is fantastic and can be easily seen in very bright sunlight. This feature alone gives the Varavon a big plus in my book!

The only caveats I have with it is the diopter adjustment and the loupe to housing connection. Maybe it is just me but I've tried all settings of the diopter and the picture still looks a little out of focus. A couple of friends also tried it and agreed. This really doesn't hurt the shot in autofocus mode but if you are trying to manually focus, it might be a problem. I did notice though that when you do manual focus on something, if you try to bring it more in focus, it will actually go out of focus in either direction so the lens still focuses properly...it's just for me the picture should be a little sharper and the diopter adjustment seems to have absolutely no effect on the sharpness of the view. With that said, the whole diopter adjustment/loupe is the only really flimsy part of the unit. A big plastic wheel gear moves the loupe in and out. The loupe is molded into a plastic worm gear that the plastic wheel moves. It just feels a little cheap and rattles around a bit in use which sounds unprofessional.

The other caveat is the way the loupe attaches to the housing. It slides into the housing and then a little plastic tab is supposed to snap over that to hold it in place. There is nothing on the loupe (no little bump or raised area) for the tab to secure itself to so the loupe can come off the housing really easy when taking it out of your bag. This is a small nuisance and can be easily fixed with a drop of glue on the housing tab to loupe connection. I think it was only made like this to make the unit smaller for travel but to me it is a nuisance.

Other than those small but fixable caveats, the unit works as promised and is invaluable for video and especially invaluable to photographers who want to shoot in bright sunlight using Live View mode. I'd give it 5 stars except for the flimsy loupe to housing and diopter issue and for the price, it is still a fantastic product!
