Bought this for my wife who was complaining about her laptop slowing down.
The RAM on her ACER was already maxed out so there wasn't a lot I could do except a larger and speedier hard drive.
This M500 fit the bill just fine.
Installation was easy although I didn't have to deal with any cloning issues because I decided to a fresh install of Windows 7.
For those who do want to clone, you'll have to find a SATA to USB cable or enclosure because neither are included.
I did get one blue-screen shortly after installing but after a firmware update from Crucial and a second fresh install it's been happy thus far.
The laptop only supports SATA-3 so I'm not getting the full benefit that this drive could provide but even still it's a noticeable improvement over the 5400RPM drive she had before.
The difference isn't night and day and it didn't turn her old i3 into a Haswell i7 but to extend the useable life for an other year or two I think it was a reasonable investment.

I have to say , after installing the hd I noticed the fan in my macbook pro would kick in right away and the laptop would get very hot. I researhced online and I discovered the HD needs a firmware update that can be found on crucial's website. I have to say The firmware update for the mac is very flimsy , thanks to youtube I was able to do it very easily and now the HD runs smoothly.

I had this SSD to use with Blackmagic Shuttle 2 SSD Video Recorder. Used it with my Canon 5D Mark III Gear and had no issues so far. I know some of my colleagues had some problems with other SSDs when recording high bitrate video.

The Adapter Kit and SSD installed easily and the cloned copy of the old drive appears to be an exact copy. Boot time is somewhat faster and the Windows OS is quicker. The total number of Gigs used is somewhat smaller than the number on the old IED drive. I'm keeping the old drive active in case there is anything missing, so far no problems. The Crucial Drive is not the fastest puppy in the pack but it's adequate for my needs

Comments about Crucial 480GB M500 2.5" Internal SSD:

Fast, lightweight, the 480gb version seems to hit the sweet spot between price and capacity. I use mine as a portable drive (without a case) which I plug into a SIIG mini-doc. (I do had a case for transport to protect the drive in my briefcase). I also have this same drive in my PC as the main "C" drive, and it is lightning f-a-s-t. Four stars become five, after it has proved that it can last for 18 months without developing errors. But for now, a great drive at a good price.

Comments about Crucial 480GB M500 2.5" Internal SSD:

I replaced the mechanical hard drive in my MacBookPro with this drive. The physical swap was easy. I duped the old drive to the new one using Carbon Copy Cloner - also easy, but a bit more time consuming. The end result is a MUCH quicker drive. Boot times were cut in less than half, and for all the stuff I do, access and responsiveness is snappy. Besides basic computing tasks, I do a ton of Photoshop work as a digital design professional, and the difference is obvious. Beach balls are a thing of the past. The drive is not the newest Crucial drive, so it's not the best or fastest, but for less than half the price of the very latest tech, it is FAR better than mechanical drives and hybrid drives. This is the sweet spot for me.

Replaced a boot drive in my custom PC with the Crucial M500 some months ago and have gotten so used to the fast boot times and overall general speed boost that it's hard now to envision using a machine without an SSD. I ended up adding 2 more Crucial M500s to the machine for data drives. The result is a quieter, cooler and super-responsive machine. Highly recommended, have been great and totally reliable.

I bought this ssd hard drive to replace a sluggish 320GB 5400rpm in my MacBookPro 5,1

I'm comfortable with changing out parts. Easy to install. I looked online for instructions. There are plenty of resources on the web including the reviews here.

I prefer doing clean installs. It makes the MBP feel new again. Start up time is merely a few seconds. It used be a good 30-45 seconds with the old hd.

I would have bought the larger capacity ssd 960GB if the budget allowed it.

It's been running smoothly in my MBP for at least two weeks.

One of the best deals out there!

Based on a SSD review at Tom's Hardware, I bought four of these to update some older computers in my house. These are not indicated in the review for stellar performance, but rather for being a great cost/performance option. And that's what you get. It's nice to have all the standard benefits of SSD - quiet, low power, much faster than a HD. But it's not the fastest SSD by a small margin. MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE THE FIRMWARE once it's installed.

I moved my Mac Pro Boot Drive on this SSD and it rocks. The speed increased to 4 times in my guess. You don't hear the drive searching all the time and I love how fast and quiet everything works now.
For a boot drive the capacity is just fine.
I had ordered 2 more Crucial SSDs before this one -128 and 240 GB- and knew already one can't go wrong with them. If not for the capacity issue, they would make rotational drives obsolete already.

Comments about Crucial 480GB M500 2.5" Internal SSD:

I purchased this drive as a dedicated gaming drive on my PC. It performs significantly faster in loading and access times during gaming. Considering the quality of this drive versus its cost, this was a great purchase that I might make again in the near future.

So far working great. Computer boots up faster. The price was good too. Amazing how much these have dropped in price.

There is nothing to say about SSDs nowadays. stressing over performance or life is moot. They are all the same, with either toshiba or samsung flash memory chip insides. It is now just a matter of trying to find the ones with toshiba chips, avoiding shady brands (but not ignoring newcomers) and looking for the best price benefit. This one is the best at the moment, for who needs a 7mm one. if you can use a 9mm, go for it as they are cheaper.

This one tries to differentiate itself from the rest by adding some security features, but take my word from it. You will never ever use it.
