The Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Hoya's high transmission Super-Multi-Coating minimizes reflection at the filter surfaces which reduces flare and ghosting.
This outstanding filter offers revolutionary performance in light transmission and color balance. 12 layers of Super Multicoating are applied to the surfaces of the Skylight 1B and UV(0) models, which produces an average transmission of 99.7%.
Coupled with maximum surface precision, this allows increased resistance to flare and stunning images can be recorded at wide apertures without compromising the performance of your lenses.

I use this filter on my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lenses. Cleaning it requires only slightly more effort than involved in a cheaper filter, which is not multi-coated; however, the build quality, fit and flare elimination features make this filter well worth its price.

I have this filter mounted on my 70-200, and it works great. It helps cut down on flare somewhat, and gives me the peace of mind that if I bump the front of my lens, it won't get damaged.

I've been using Hoya S-HMC filters as lens protectors for years. Very efficient multi-coating. Great glass. Aluminum mounting ring will deform upon impact and save your lens - unlike brass-mounted filters.

My main use is for protection, so I don't want to use a filter that could degrade image quality. Not the case with this filter and I own several. I also do not find this filter too hard to clean.

$ to protect the front element of my $1000+ lens, is good enough for me. I am unable to see a difference but I do take it off for some shots.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
Well, it stays on my lens without getting stuck. Knock-knock. No vignetting so far but I only have an F/4 at 12mm (shortest@APS-C crop) so that assessment might change in the future if Santa is generous enough to dump a wide-r UWA lens with F/2.8 on my lap. For now no complaints.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Super Multi-Coated (S-HMC) Glass Haze Filter:
Filter becomes dirty very easily and is very difficult to clean. I even bought some special cleaning solutions and cloths with no luck. When filter is dirty, it strongly affects quality of pictures. I replaced this filter by the most generic Hoya filter for much better results. I can clean that one with some spit and my shirt and it remains clean for longer.

Great filter. Only that it seems to be difficult to clean. Studied Tokina+Hoya_Kenyo site. They recommended Eclipse cleaner or Formula MC. Will give that a try.
