Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

I shoot events like car shows and I have done some war reenactments. I use a steady cam suit with the GY-HM70U and it all works perfect together. So most of my shoots are high action were I need to be moving fast and lots of angles. The camera works very well under these conditions and gets great video with high super clear footage. Stabilization is great even when I zoom in when I have to zoom in. The GY-HM70U is a solid well built camera. The only thing that is week about the camera is the eye piece it has a slight rain bowing effect unless your eye is tight against it. But I am very happy with it and I will be looking at more from B&H in the near future. Thank you!!

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

We just recently added this cam to our arsenal of equipment as we had the chance to use it for one of our wedding video and in daylight the colors were way better than our SONY HXR-MC2000's, and handles better in low light, but of course the HM70 is newer and has a BSI sensor. My second camera operator uses his Panasonic AG-AC8, and even he likes the lens autofocus action better on the HM70. We just recently purchased this with the extra JVC zoom rocker. The HM70 has better depth of field than the AG-AC8 and the MC2000 because it has a bigger sensor. The only thing that we truly dislike is to be cautious with high contrast images at long zooms since it suffers from severe purple fringing. However, to be honest most wedding customers won't recognize it. It's a great cam!

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

This is a great looking cheap camera that will impress onlookers and is surprisingly good in low light. However, I emphasize the word cheap with thin plastic and overall flimsy build.
Did one trial shoot with this camera before I sent it back. The audio was bad even though I was using a pro Sony ENG wireless mic and I could see the color actually vary as I shot !!??. I generally like JVC products but they never quite catch up with Sony or Canon in the camcorder market.

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

Received this camera two weeks ago and had high hopes for this to be a cheap camera with good video quality without all the bells and whistles (I have two NX5Us and was looking for something that had video quality that would match up with them).
Put the camera through the paces the first day I had it and it performed flawlessly in good light (outdoors, good sunlight). Impressive.
The next day I had a money shoot and what better place than here to do my testing (outdoor stadium).
The event started at 6 pm and had good natural lighting and the camera went stroke for stroke with the sonys, but then came nightfall and the M70U took a nose dive. The lights came on at the event, the sonys look good (not great but good)and the M70U couldn`t even record a good enough picture for you to tell who was in an event. Bad, Bad, Bad. Strike 1
Also if you are planing to use this camera with a switcher and want a 4 by 3 output that's not going to happen either, it doesn't do edge crop like sony or if you do try to do this it will squeeze the picture too much and it doesn't look natural. Strike 2.
The next day I test the camera against one of my old cameras, a sony DCR-TRV900 (came out about 2000). The JVC outperformed the sony outdoors without a problem, but testing indoors was a disaster. The sony DCR-TRV900 made hash out of the JVC. Strike 3 your out.
It's not that the JVC is a bad camera, it's just not a very good one.
Will say this for B and H, they let me send the Camcorder back with no problems to me and gave me a full refund! B and H once again hit a home run with their service!

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

I purchased this video camera after researching the market for my required features and price range. This is an extremely nice HD camcorder for the price. Note: this JVC GY-HM70U is not billed as a high-end PRO Camcorder and some features that come with a high-end Pro Camcorder are not on this model. This information is clearly noted on the specifications. I have high-end PRO camcorders – but – needed a camcorder easy to use and quick to setup for event recordings.
The JVC GY-HM70U is well-balanced for shoulder use and comes with easy controls and setting on the LCD. I am pleased with the image quality and features of this camcorder.

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

I purchased this video camera a month before purchasing accessories in order to become familiar with all of the controls and settings. I immediately appreciated the easy to read controls and setting on the LCD. The "?" Also provides a short explanation for each setting. Thus, far I am pleased with the image quality. I have recently purchased FCP X, on an new 27" IMAC. Downloading to iPhoto and FCP was a snap.

I used the B & H iPad app to purchase, and the format of the site with suggestions for accessories was very helpful for putting together wish lists.

Comments about JVC GY-HM70U HD Camcorder:

I was excited about this camera, but it fell short of my expectations. It also delivered as promised. It just depends on your needs.Pros: The hot-swapable dual battery slots on the back are the best feature. Great idea, wish it was an industry standard. Not very heavy for how large it is, zoom range/controls are good, image quality is acceptable so long as you have good light. It's sensitive to low-light environments, but the image quality drops off noticeably. 300 FPS slow-mo recording works as advertised in terms of frame speed and smoothness, but...Cons: Focus is terrible. AF has a very hard time finding the appropriate focus plane, even outside on a sunny day, and even when it is focused properly it still isn't sharp at all. 300 FPS slow-mo recording is apparently in SD (720x480), but I beg to differ - it looks worse. Even with more than enough light, the image quality for the slow-mo is pretty bad. The touchscreen is also very unresponsive - the weakest part of the camera, if you ask me. I use a Canon XA20 as well, and its touchscreen works like a nice smartphone. The JVC's touchscreen is much worse. You have to press pretty hard, often more than once (I realize the XA20 is $600 more expensive and so I should expect higher quality, but why have a touchscreen at all if it doesn't work well?). A camera THIS LARGE doesn't have any XLR inputs? The manual controls are also very limited. You can reprogram the control ring on the lens to adjust exposure, zoom, focus, etc., but when the touchscreen through which you issue those commands doesn't work very well, this becomes very cumbersome. Overall it just doesn't give as many options as I had expected and it's much more cumbersome to operate than convenient, and the overall image quality is not very competitive. It's not a bad camera if you don't need a lot from it, but even for a modest $[*] it still doesn't deliver what you should expect for that price tag. I wanted to recommend this camera, I wanted it to be awesome, but I can't honestly say that it is. It's not bad, but you can do better for $[*].
