The Polsen OLM-10 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone is an all-in-one solution for recording hands-free audio to both channels of your camcorder or DSLR, as well as most devices with a 3.5mm mic-level input that cannot supply phantom power. It is a self-powered clip-on electret condenser mic designed for accurate voice reproduction in home and video webcasting applications such as presentations, interviews, dictation, and corporate video. The microphone's small, 21-mm long lightweight body allows for discrete placement with the included tie-clip while its 20-foot long cable gives you ample distance from your recording device.

Featuring a 3.5mm dual-mono TRS output connector, the mic sends audio to both the left and right channels of your recorder. Thanks to its omnidirectional polar pattern, the OLM-10 provides a uniform response that will not cause the bass-boosting proximity effect common with cardioid patterns, while allowing you to move freely without off-axis rejection causing a drop in volume. The in-line power switch allows you to quickly mute the microphone as well as preserve battery life when not in use. A windscreen for reduced noise and plosives, 1/4" adapter, and LR44 battery are included.

FOR PRO MIXER INPUT, use the B/H HOASMFPM adapter to provide 1/4" unbalanced audio that WILL work on a pro mixer 1/4" balanced mic input. :)

FRYING BACON STATIC NOISE, developed in my testing. solution, polish the battery edge and faces on a mildly rough cloth to remove invisible oxide, and if you are good with tools, carefully bend out the side contact to make it a firm fit. test this by hard tapping on the battery case and see if you have 'funnies' in the audio. a loose battery fit will suddenly inject 'bacon frying and static' into audio. making a tight/clean contact will stop/prevent that.

with the adapter, tight battery fitting contacts, you will have a killer mic for little money.

lastly, maybe they will make battery contacts much tighter and reverse the location of the battery holder to be at the mixer end so as to avoid battery jossling/noise, and a chance to fix it fast if you get unlucky and it happens.

sorry about the runon and long wind, but i hope this and my last review are helpful in your using this GREAT LIL MIC.

I am using this attached to a Zi10 Playtouch for youtube and home videos. I like this lavelier microphone for my purposes. The mic quality in most video cameras is terrible to horrible. As far as I am concerned an external mic is absolutely necessary. The quality is not professional but is adequate for my needs. It improves the sound quality 100%. It is certainly good for speaking and instruction. If you are a singer or music professional you may want to invest in something stronger than this but for just speaking and regular sound capture this is good. The clip could be better but it is adequate.

Comments about Polsen OLM-10 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone:

If you have the option, nothing is better for dialog audio than using a lapel. I own several @ 33-3013s which appears to be the same lapel as the OLM-10(it is stereo vs mono for the 3013s) and ATR3350 that I use for event and corporate video along side my Sennheiser wireless ew100 G2. Though some processing might be needed with the wired lapels, at the end to of the day, the client can't tell the difference between my $ lapel and my $ wireless. Sometimes I can't tell the difference. I quit using the RS 33-3013s in favor of the stereo output of the ATR3350s which produced a nearly identical image. When tested against the 3350, the cheaper OLM-15 had slightly more noise in the midrange and less dynamic range. I like the body style of the OLM-10 better with easier battery access, red paint on the power button to make on/off easier to see and I think the clip is more conducive the weight imposed by the cable when attached to a pocket or belt loop. It's all plastic vs the metal body and clip of the 3350. Given the small price difference, the more rugged metal body and slight edge on the sound quality puts the 3350 in recommendation above the OLM-10. As final side note, I didn't test it with the camcorder plugged in to AC power. If I use the ATR3350 connected to the camera on AC power, it produces a hum in the signal. Given the similarity in design, I would be leery the same thing would result with this lapel.

I am a amateur videographer on a budget. I found this mic, it had decent reviews and was great for my budget. So far, I have been very please with the sound quality of this product. I use it along with a boom mic so I get ambient sound as well. I wish they had a comparable wireless mic.

Recently purchased this mic to be able to plug directly into Canon T3i for recording video. Sound quality was very good. Tested it on camera's auto recording level setting and various manual settings of 25-50. Auto setting worked best, with readings in the -12db to -8db range. Meter reading on camera matched well with meter reading in FCX.

Would highly recommend for a low-cost, good quality mic.

The microphone works well. I found it to have some hissing when the audio sensitivity settings were set very high, although they don't need to be set that high to pick up good clear audio. I tested it with my Nikon D5300.

Comments about Polsen OLM-10 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone:

I've watched enough low-budget Internet videos to know that decent audio makes a huge difference, and that starts with a decent microphone. At $, this little lav is a fantastic deal. It is not professional quality, however: the long, thin cord generates a lot of hiss. For best results, clip this mike very close to the speaker's mouth -- absolutely no more than 8 inches away, preferably 6.

I have used this lavalier microphone for two investor videos, and the sound quality has been great.

It seems to be pretty sturdy as the cord got caught in one of the subject's shoe lace and got a pretty hard yank. I was sure it broke a wire, but there have been no problems.

Some hissing to be removed at editing but otherwise a great way to bring the mic closer at a very low cost. Still GREAT quality.

Positioning is really important to achieve the highest quality otherwise it captures a lot of ambiant sounds. Very sensible (but not so for wind and clothing).

GREAT buy! So useful and unexpensive it deserves 5 stars despite the little cons..

Much better than using the on camera mic. Subject sounds close to the camera, however, it has a descent amount of "hissing". You'll need to do post to remove that. I shot with a wireless lav and this omni wired mic and this did have more much more hissing that I needed to remove in post. I primarily use it as back audio and to assist in syncing video clips in post. Like I said the audio quality is not bad and for the money it's not a regretful purchase but for anything professional, you may want to look to other options. 4 stars are for the pricing when added to it's quality.

I normally order my gear from the internet since the grade and price of gear at B & H always seemed to exceed my tight budget. For some reason I had it set in my mind that B & H only carried high-end professional gear, but I was indeed wrong. Their selection appeals to any and every level of film maker.

This lav works wonders for the price. It's durable, clear, and lengthy. Hello clear formal interview audio.

I'll be going to B & H much more for my gear now.

I did a lot of research on "lavalier mikes" and everyone says u need to spend $$ for quality products. Well, I didnt have $$$ to spend, needed something affordable, and this seemed fair. For my use, its great. Ive used it once so far to record a speaker and then paired audio with my video in post. I use it with a Zoom H4N. Results are impressive, way better than zoom's onboard mics. For the price, i believe its a great deal! Not sure how it would compare to high end expensive mikes since this is the only one i ever owned.

SMALL SIZE, BIG SOUND, GREAT PRICE. the cable lengths give lots of options for locating your cam or mixer and includes a 1/4" adapter that sends its in phase mono to the Tip[L] and Ring [R] channels for some equipment that will work with that configuration. NOTE: pro mic inputs require that the Tip/Ring signals are out of phase [balanced] and using the provided adapter in a 1/4" trs mic input will give zero output. This is normal as the mic ckt needs diffrent phased [ +/- on each input or it cancells the signal as if it were noise.

A great work around is to find an adapter that connects the Tip and Ring signals to only the TIP while the sleeve internally shorts the R input to ground. Now you have a 'single ended' input, and the mic will boom thru. It would be fab if Polsen included this adapter as well, and you can mic any mixer with this lav. suggest that you find a stereo to mono adapter to use with this mic if you dont want to make one [kinda messy and more 'stuff' to track.

I AM BUYING 6 MORE to use for in field legal video recordings and other productions, AND I HOPE THEY OFFER REPLACEMENT CLIPS, WIND SCREENS IN THE FUTURE.

NEEDS A 1/8 TO 1/4 STEREO TO MONO ADAPTER.. but its a great overall value. GET SOME.

Don't expect studio quality sound but works well in a pinch. Using it on a 5DMK2. Love the extra long cable it comes with. Definitely best use for it is in a controlled environment where one can control background noise and take the time to adjust levels. For sure not for use with a run-n-gun type set up (go wireless or shotgun for that).

The foam screen is a piece of junk, but otherwise, this little mic is worth the buck! Used it this weekend pointed in the direction of the interviewee, instead of clipped on, and the audio turned out nice! Also, I bought some foam screens from a local video shop and they fit great. I'd recommend this affordable tool to amateur/semi-pro/indie/documentary filmmakers. For five stars, they'd have to include a better foam screen.
