The Manfrotto MVH500A Fluid Drag Video Head with MVT502AM Tripod and Carry Bag features a a fluid head with a wide platform to support the HDSLR form factor, and a 60 mm half ball for quick leveling without adjusting the legs. The head supports a maximum weight load of 11 pounds and has a built-in pre-set spring-loaded counterbalance of 5.3 pounds. It features a tilt range of -70°/+90° and it provides 360° panning rotation. The head also features a side lock system for the sliding QR plate, and an integrated bubble level.

The 2-stage tripod feature a 75 mm bowl and includes a 75 to 60 mm adapter so you can use the MVH500A head. The legs are individually adjustable, and feature a mid level spreader for stability on uneven ground. The minimum height of the tripod and head is just over two feet, for getting low angle shots, and the maximum height is just over 5 feet. The legs feature non-removable feet suitable for exteriors and interiors, and are gentle on delicate floors. The included padded carry bag makes transporting your tripod and head simple and easy.

Fluid Head

The wide camera platform provides support for DSLR cameras, making this head suitable for both camcorders and DSLR cameras.
The 60 mm half ball allows you to quickly level the head without having to readjust the legs. It also makes it simpler to create dutch angled shots without dangerously unbalancing the tripod.
The spring loaded counterbalance is fixed at 5.3 pounds, however the head supports 11 pounds, and the counterbalance will still provide assistance when using camera set ups heavier than 5.3 pounds.
Professional fluid cartridges provide fixed fluid drag in both the pan and tilt axes.
The head features a tilt range of 90 degrees forward and 70 degrees back, allowing you to tilt the camera straight down, and tilt it almost straight up.
The head pans through 360 degrees, allowing you to take long panoramic shots or spin the camera around on the head.
The side lock system allows the sliding QR plate to click into the head from above, instead of needing to be aligned and slid in from the back. This gives you the speed of a touch and go quick release with the balance adjustment capability of a sliding QR plate.
An integrated bubble level on the head aids you in quickly leveling the fluid head.
The included 500PLONG sliding QR plate also includes both a 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera tie down screws.
The head includes one pan bar, and features two pan bar mounting rosettes, one on each side of the head, for left or right handed operation. A second optional pan bar allows you to operate the head with two pan bars at the same time.
The Easy Link connector, is a 3/8"-16 threaded hole in the side of the head that allows you to easily mount accessories to the fluid head itself, and not the camera.

Tripod legs

Featuring a 75mm bowl for attaching a fluid head, a 75 to 60 mm adapter is included for using with the MVH500A head.
The tripod legs can support over 33 pounds, easily carrying the weight of the fluid head and camera. The closed length (without fluid head) is just over two feet, and has a height range of 22.4 to 56.5 inches and weighs only 4.3 pounds.
The legs are constructed out of oval aluminum tubes for strength and durability. Each leg can be independently raised and lowered when required.
The mid level spreader helps prevent instability that a ground level spreader can introduce when working on uneven surfaces.
Non removable rubber feet provide secure grip, and are gentle on delicate surfaces, such as interior floors.
An elastic leg strap helps keep the legs secured together during transportation and storage.

Padded Carry Bag

The padded carry bag, keeps your tripod and head together during storage or transport.

I purchased this for my wildlife scope but can use it with my DSLR Camera and my Handycam too. I needed a tripod that would let me follow an eagle across the sky, to watch an egret catch a fish and then fly off or to follow a coyote walking along the tree line looking for his next meal. The fluid head of this unit provides me this capability; the 360° panning rotation is perfect to follow the animals that I love to watch. The head maneuvers fluently; no "bumpy" viewing like I have when I hold the scope by hand and the long pan bar makes my movement slow and steady. The tripod needed to be adjustable so I can sit in a chair or stand to view the local wildlife. The 2-stage feature provides me just what I needed. The tripod will go as low as 2 feet to 5 feet and the legs can be adjusted independently which is nice when I'm on uneven ground. All of the features are easy to use: knobs are user friendly, latches easy to open and close. The detachable plate is great! I can remove the scope with the quick release, pack everything up (in the carrying case) and head out to another favorite wildlife viewing destination. So far, I have not found anything about this unit that I do not like.

This tripod seemed perfect for a run and gun video tripod because of its light weight and the stability and reliability you expect from Manfrotto. However, I didn't notice until after I received it that the feet are fixed and flat and larger than most tripod feet. This is probably great for indoor use on floors or perfectly flat surfaces. But who needs a lightweight tripod for that? I bought it to use on location, and I mostly shoot outdoors. There aren't many perfectly flat surfaces outdoors, so the feet render this tripod practically useless for the purpose I bought it for. Unfortunately, it would cost $ to ship it back so I'll just use it for the occasional indoor shoots I do. I wish the description had made it clear that this tripod is designed for indoor use only.

    Smooth pan and tilt

    By Alex M.

Comments about Manfrotto MVH500A Fluid Drag Video Head with MVT502AM Tripod and Carry Bag:

I recently upgraded to this fluid drag head tripod for commercial video shoots. Very smooth and steady panning and tilting. The head offers just enough resistant to make professional style tilts and pans with ease. It's lightweight and easy to pick up and move to another location quickly. The quick release plate is also beneficial for changing lenses. I strongly recommend this tripod/head combo.

This is my first fluid head tripod. Having been working in video a long time and using the ones of my company, I knew I wanted a Manfrotto for personal use. I found this tripod to be incredible. The head is super professional and sturdy. I am a huge fan of the dual post legs which add support, and are still lightweight. This tripod is incredible versatile with plenty of amenities including the ball head which has saved me countless minutes on set already. I would have to say this is my favorite tripod out of all the tripods I have used including more and less expensive models.

I always liked Manfrotto products and now that I have my own tripod, I'm able to pan and tilt smoother than ever. Other than the feet of this product not being flexible might be a problem to some, but I'm able to adapt to the field I'm working in with this tripod and continue to capture some great shots. The price is affordable and I would recommend this product to others in my field of work.

This is basically completely assembled upon arrival. It's very easy to use and sturdy for it's price. I would have no problem carrying this around all day for a hike or event.

Its pans are smooth, far smoother than any other tripod I've ever owned. However you can not adjust the pan speed like other professional tripods.

I've used Manfrotto stuff for years, I love their photo tripods and monopods, as well as the heavier duty video units. This is a great tripod, but the legs have one flaw in the design. If you're ever in a hurry and use a little too much force with unlocking and lengthening the sticks, there are little plastic pieces that can come out that from what I understand, are the only things keeping the legs together. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how they go back in and actually get it to lock in place. Other than that small flaw, it's a great tripod.

The best thing about this tripod is the fluid head. I'm used to using the 504HD system at work and this head feels almost as good. The tripod itself is very light and sets up easy, but it definitely doesn't feel as sturdy as some of the large Manfrotto tripods. With my Blackmagic Pocket though, it's a great solution.

              A little wiggle

              By Trenton Goodman

              from Peoria, Illinois

Comments about Manfrotto MVH500A Fluid Drag Video Head with MVT502AM Tripod and Carry Bag:

I received my tripod yesterday, and I'll break it down to the key points of why this is worth the money.

              1. Incredible quality. They build these tripods and heads with love.

              2. As an amateur videographer, I plan on using this a lot. I have no fear that it will get me through every session.

              3. It has instructions in nearly every language. No way you aren't putting this thing together.

              4. The pan and tilt are so extremely fluid on the head.

              5. I shot some video at our local zoo and I did notice two things that aren't ideal.
5a. The handle has a little give when you first grab it to move. Not huge, I recommend turning the grip upwards and away to reduce the movement.
5b. The screw to the camera mount has some give on the camera as well. This could be operator error, but I did go back and tighten it and it still didn't seem extremely snug. This is minimal at best, but an observation nonetheless.

In all, a spectacular video tripod and I highly recommend it.

I am not a videographer but use it for personal projects. I have not had the chance to use it in the field but after testing it out at home I was impressed with the sturdy construction. Not the lightest tripod for sure, but if you don't have sandbags I'm sure that is a plus. The fluid heads seems smooth and the legs extend and lock easily. I recommend.

We recently obtained this tripod for use by students in a high school journalism program. It's a much better fit for video, of course, than using tripods designed for still photography. It's lightweight, easy to use, and easy to teach students how to use correctly. I hope to get a second quick release plate, and hopefully a second tripod also with a second quick release plate as we often use two-camera setups.

I was a bit skeptical about it at first but after a lot of research I decided to go with tbis tripod and it is great! It has the lightweight portability side of it and it is sturdy and stable when you want to add a slider! Worth the buy.

I've used a lot of tripods and for the price this is an excellent tripod. It's durable and has a good fluid head. I'm using this tripod with my Canon 7D and I'm very happy with it thus far. I think it will last a very long time.

Comments about Manfrotto MVH500A Fluid Drag Video Head with MVT502AM Tripod and Carry Bag:

Bottom of line perhaps, but this tripod is smooth and strong. Light years ahead of what I've used prior. This is the perfect first legit setup. Grab a sandbag!

Having previously owned this set of sticks at a previous company, I wasn't going to deviate from this tried-and-true performer. Very satisfied with the sticks, and the 502 head is a solid performer for the price. If you're producing low- to mid-range client videos, internal communication pieces, or short documentaries, this is a rugged, reliable tripod system. Can't go wrong with this setup!

Comments about Manfrotto MVH500A Fluid Drag Video Head with MVT502AM Tripod and Carry Bag:
