This is absolutely a GREAT combo of monopod and head. The problem is that it is not the standard head MVH500AH .. it was modified for this monopod and so with this monopod the head itself does not pan. The bottom of the monopod does the work instead. In the Manfrotto video for this new product they show the incorrect head that comes with this monopod. The only issue is that you can't use the head that comes with this monopod on anything else using it as a fluid head..the knob is missing with the modification. Too bad I had to return it.. it was awesome.. as I wanted something not dedicated to the monopod. I decided then to buy the same unmodified head MVH500AH and bought a separate monopod. I want to make sure to state that his unit is really nice although I did not keep it! If this is what you need or want, you won't be sorry if you buy this product. It worked very very nicely! Beautifully!

I'm rating it at a 2 because the MVH500AH Fluid Head is modified so that there is no pan axis which is why I purchased it. I understand that the pan axis is built into the monopod, but I had the hopes of using the head on a different pair of sticks. I guess Manfrotto wants me to purchase another kit which is disappointing. They continue to disappoint just as they did with the previous model.

The quality is great and what I expect from Manfrotto. It's just too bad that their not up front about the features they've subtracted. Please update the product description so that people don't waste their time and money on something they aren't expecting.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This is a great monopod and fluid head combo. However, as it has been said in previous comments, the head is only a tilt head. The panning comes from the base of the monopod. Not a deal breaker for me, but it is a little bit of an adjustment.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Love this thing. Used this to shoot a 4-day conference and worked like a champ. The head is very smooth with the tilting motion. It's like any other manfrotto fluid head and comes with a nice long baseplate.

The bottom attachment has a good fluid panning movement as well.

Feet have a nice rubber grip on them. The actual monopod has a good hand grip as well.

Okay, let's addresst he popping concern. I really don't think it's obnoxious enough to chance buying a product from a brand you've never used before. What I mean, is benro is thrown around a lot. I'm sure it's great, but I trust the Manfrotto name, and I got quality. I don't notice the pop in my video. And, for me, it's barely there at all. Just like anything else, learn your equipment and you're good. I've already shot a number of things on this, and it all turned out just the way I wanted.

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Love the monopod for its functionality and ease of use, durability and weight capacity... but I was pretty bummed to learn they removed the panning function from the 500 series head it comes with. I get that it pans from the base of the monopod, but the head is basically useless on any other slider or sticks. Manfrotto for the win on making you purchase an additional head... But I'll definitely keep using this for run and gun and weddings and such. Minus the versatility issue, it's one of the best out there for the $

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

This monopod is fantastic! Let me start out by saying this thing is sturdy! Its nice and thick around so there isnt any issue with you fearing of it bending.
The pan is really nice, and I've yet to experience any pan issues with the base that others have noticed. The tilt head is really nice as well. Now, I'm not sure why the product says the head is not removable, because you can definitely remove the head and use it as a standard monopod.

Overall, I'm super happy with this product and definitely recommend it to others!

Comments about Manfrotto Fluid Monopod with 500 Series Head:

Prior to using this monpod, things such as hiking or outdoors filming was harder lugging around a heavy tripod. But this monpod is light enough to travel with and gives fluid results for video purposes. It opens up possibilities to be more flexible while filming.

Iv seen just about every single videographer I know use this monopod. I put C100s and DSLRs on this. Holds them perfectly. This is the go to monopod for amazing quality in all your video movements. It has a strong build and smooth movement. I would never buy anything else. Manfrotto knocked it out of the pack with this combo.

I really love this monopod. It is convenient and lightweight. It comes in handy when filming things on the fly and I dont want to use my shoulder rig all day.

Problem is that the joint at the bottom sticks and pops. I will be trying to do a slight pan with its special fluid design, but the ball joint will catch and then pop. It takes some serious finessing to pan with this thing and not ruin the shot.

So far, I've used this to video record sports events in tight places where a tripod wouldn't fit. For that purpose it performs well...I can place it in position for stationary shots and it's stable enough stand on it's own (although I wouldn't want to walk away from it, just in case). I can see this being useful for run & gun video recording as well vs. a tripod.

This is definitely a nice product to have in certain situations.

I am a professional wedding filmmaker.
The fluid head works flawlessly and Manfrotto made some minor improvements but more importantly I had hoped they would have figured out how to make the base movement more fluid but unfortunately they have not.

OK this is a great addition to any kit - however I do have some cons. Let's do the good first though ...

It's solid, it locks the setions well, I like the stabilizing feet, the whole thing is very well built overall.

When it arrived the pan was WAY too tight, I played with the center bolt and got it workable. It's still not great ... it's good ... but not great. I would like to see an adjustable drag or at least the factory should have set it to a workable level. This should have not gotten through testing, and I've read more people having this problem recently.

The pan causes the head to unscrew from the pole - THAT is really annoying. There is no set screw to hold the head on and prevent it from unscrewing on the pan. This is a problem that should have been easily caught in testing. It needs to be resolved!

It would be great if there was a lock that held the pod straight, locked the bottom fluid movement. Though I get it won't ever be stable to hold a camera, just to have it verticle or in a set position would help stabilize sometimes. That said I do really like the fluid base at times too.

I hate using tripods, I only use them for a video interview shoot or something similar. I always prefer handheld filming, but with longer focal lengths, I get shaky footage. This monopod has been an absolute game changer for me. Highly recommended!

I am really excited to use this Monopod. I am in the process of changing my shooting style to a more human look and the Monopod seems perfect for that. It also allows you to stand on narrow benches and get angles that were not possible with a tripod.
