Product Highlights
  • #25 Filter for General B&W Contrast
  • MRC Multi-Resistant Coating
  • Rugged Brass Filter Ring
  • High Quality Schott Glass

The B+W 39mm #25 Red (090) MRC Filter is a basic contrast filter, primarily for use with black and white film. This red filter dramatically darkens skies, cuts through haze, and increases overall contrast. When compared to the orange #22 filter, the #25 produces very dark, almost black skies and a surreal contrast between foliage, clouds, and sky. There is an 8x filter factor with this filter, requiring an increase of 3 stops for normal exposure.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

        Comments about B+W 39mm #25 Red (090) MRC Filter:

I'm using this filter to help an otherwise color-blind Leica M Monochrom with its B&W rendition of color, exploiting the capability of a red filter to reduce haze and markedly accentuate clouds, foliage, & architecture. B+W filters consist of high quality glass (why put window glass in front of good glass?) in a brass mount (less likely to bind).

        Comments about B+W 39mm #25 Red (090) MRC Filter:

There's not much to say: it does what it is supposed to do! It is well-constructed, from a very reputable manufacturer of quality filters. I use mine to accentuate blue skies and clouds when shooting 35mm film.
