The Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder shoots 1920 x 1080p Full HD video at 60 fps in either AVCHD or web-friendly MP4 format. It also supports Native 24p Progressive Mode recording, which will give your footage a more cinematic look. You can use built-in Cinema-Looks Filters to enhance that "film" look as well. The HF G30 is equipped with a Genuine Canon 20x HD Video Lens with an 8-Blade Circular Aperture for more professional-looking video and stills. The lens provides a 26.8 - 576mm (35mm equivalent) focal length and a manual focus ring that can easily be set to control the zoom instead. The camera also provides a 2.91MP Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor and DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor for wide dynamic range and improved low-light performance.

The HF G30 records directly to dual SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slots. You can record to just one or both simultaneously using different formats. The dual card slots also support Relay Recording, which automatically switches video recording to the second memory card when the first one runs out of storage space. For steady shooting in a variety of conditions, the camera offers SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization with Dynamic Image Stabilization. This feature enables five-axis correction to correct camera shake throughout the full range of motion. For shot preview and image playback, the HF G30 is outfitted with a 3.5" OLED capacitive touch display and a 0.24" tiltable color LCD viewfinder.

The HF G30 also provides dual-band Wi-Fi technology that lets you share your videos quickly, using a variety of methods. You can use compatible wireless networks, wireless hotspots or iOS mobile devices to share footage. The free Canon Movie Uploader app is required for video sharing with an iOS mobile device. You can also use Wi-Fi to back up and quickly transfer files. Plus, Canon provides the free iMAGE GATEWAY online photo storage service for uploading footage to social networking sites.

Canon equipped the HF G30 with a number of professional shooting functions and advanced display features as well. Whether you require Focus Assist, Zebra Pattern, Color Bars, Test Tone or a range of composition aids, the HF G30 has the tools to help you shoot like a professional. Some of the camera's other features include Audio Scene Select, headphone and microphone jacks, HDMI connectivity and a Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe that supports attachment of a variety of shooting aids including lights and microphones.

Genuine Canon 20x HD Video Lens
The VIXIA HF G30 has a Genuine Canon 20x HD Video Lens that features a 35mm equivalent focal length of 26.8 - 576mm with a minimum object distance of just 23.6" (60cm). The lens uses aspherical lens technology to achieve low chromatic aberration and high resolution, while maintaining a compact form factor. Super spectra coating technology lowers flare and ghosting as well.
8-Blade Circular Aperture & Hybrid Focusing System
The Canon 20x HD Video Lens also features an 8-Blade Circular Aperture that reduces the "starburst" effect found in camcorders with non-circular apertures. The result is a more appealing circularly blurred background in the out-of-focus areas. This feature is bolstered by a manual focus ring, which allows more accurate control. For extra flexibility, the manual focus ring can be set to control zoom instead. Besides manual focusing, the camera supports a Hybrid AF with Instant AF or Medium AF, Normal AF, Face Priority AF and Face Only AF.
AVCHD & MP4 Recording Formats
The VIXIA HF G30 supports MP4 recording at up to 35Mbps and AVCHD recording at up to 35Mbps. Both formats support Full HD 1080/60p resolution. Plus, images captured at 60 frames per second means that diagonal noise is mostly eliminated - even when shooting fast moving subjects. The camera also supports enhanced color and tonal gradation.
Native 24p Progressive Mode
The VIXIA HF G30 features a Native 24p Progressive Mode that allows 24 frames per second to be captured and recorded (instead of the standard 60i). This provides a more cinematic look.
Slow-Motion & Fast-Motion Recording
The VIXIA HF G30 allows you to add a fast or slow motion effect to your captured video by letting you record in a different frame rate than the one you use for playback. You can speed up your video 250% or slow it down to 40% without any loss in image quality.
Built-in Dual-Band Wi-Fi
Built-in (5 or 2.4 GHz) dual-band Wi-Fi technology lets you share your HD video through compatible networks, wireless hotspots and iOS mobile devices using the free Canon Movie Uploader app. Transfer files to selected FTP servers for back up or when a quick transfer is necessary. Share videos over the Internet with Canon's free iMAGE GATEWAY online photo storage service as well. You can even watch videos stored on the camera's memory cards directly on your living room TV, or use your PC or mobile device to browse remotely through the previously recorded videos stored on your camcorder, without connecting a cable. The Remote Browse function uses a standard web browser and does not even require a special app.
Remote Operation Through Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi technology also allows for remote control of key camcorder controls, such as recording start/stop and zoom (in three different speeds), exposure functions (iris, shutter speed, gain and more) and focus settings.
LANC Control
The camcorder features a 2.5 mm stereo mini jack LANC port, under the HDMI out connector. This is an input for LANC control only.
Canon HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor
The VIXIA HF G30 is equipped with a 2.91MP Full HD CMOS Pro Image Sensor. It provides pixels that are significantly larger and more sensitive than the ones found in most consumer camcorders. This facilitates more light capture, which enables you to capture high-quality video with wide dynamic range - even in dimly lit conditions.
DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor
The VIXIA HF G30 incorporates Canon's high-definition DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor, which helps enable better low-light shooting with brighter, noise-free images even in dark scenes. Plus, dramatically increased processing power lets you record in both easy-to-share MP4 and AVCHD formats simultaneously.
OLED 3.5" Capacitive Touch Display
The touch-sensitive Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) panel on the VIXIA HF G30 supports capacitive touch responsiveness and clear image playback thanks to 1,230,000 dots of resolution. Touch operation also affords more fluid control of camera functions like Touch and Track, Touch Focus and Touch Exposure.
Tilt Electronic 0.24" Color LCD Viewfinder
The VIXIA HF G30 features a 0.24" color LCD electronic viewfinder with approximately 100% field of view coverage and 1,560,000 dots of resolution. It can be tilted up to 45° from its normal resting position as well, which enables more shooting freedom. Settings can even be adjusted with a handy joystick so you don't have to stop looking through the viewfinder. And, because it is positioned where your thumb naturally rests while holding the camera, you can shoot and adjust easily - even with one hand.
Dual SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card Slots with Relay Recording
The VIXIA HF G30 allows you to record video directly to widely available SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards with capacities ranging from 32GB all the way up to 2TB. They are available in ultra-fast reading and writing speeds that make it easy to share video. Plus, dual slots on the VIXIA HF G30 enable Relay Recording. The camcorder automatically switches to the second memory card when the first one becomes full, so there's no need to worry about running out of recording time.
Simultaneously Record in AVCHD & MP4 Formats
Using the power of the DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor, the VIXIA HF G30 camcorder can simultaneously record video in AVCHD format to one SD card and MP4 format on the other SD card. The widely used MP4 format provides quick, conversion-free playback on tablets and smartphones, and lets you upload videos directly to social networking sites for easy sharing. AVCHD is perfect for watching videos on an HDTV or archiving them to Blu-ray discs. The camcorder also has a built-in transcoding function that converts AVCHD files to MP4, or from MP4 to MP4 across memory media, making them easy to upload to the web or save to an SD card.
SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer with Dynamic Image Stabilization
Canon's SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer corrects camera shake instantly. The power of the DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor also supports an improved Dynamic Image Stabilization mode. In addition to providing continuous adjustment throughout the entire zoom range to correct a broad range of motion, with extra compensation applied at wide-angle focal lengths, the system also stabilizes rotational camera shake to ensure smoother, distortion-free video - even while walking and shooting.
High-Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery
The VIXIA HF G30 is powered by a higher capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack that lets you shoot longer. It also features intelligent technology that accurately indicates remaining battery time down to the minute.
Linear PCM Audio Recording
The VIXIA HF G30 supports pro-quality 16-bit LPCM audio recording for enhanced sound fidelity. This format is also fully compatible with both video-editing and audio-editing software. LPCM is supported only in 28 and 24Mbps recording modes.
Audio Scene Select
Audio Scene Select offers five modes that automatically optimize settings based on the recording situation. This makes it easy to record more realistic, immersive audio in a range of situations.
Optional Canon WM-V1 Wireless Microphone
This Canon camcorder works with a range of accessories including Canon's WM-V1 Wireless Microphone, which streams audio wirelessly from subjects up to 164' (50m) away. It's ideal for when you're shooting talking subjects from far away. Plus, it can also be used as a stand-alone transceiver to cue shooting and more.
Focus Assist
To enhance focusing capability, the VIXIA HF G30 features Focus Assist. Normally found in professional cameras, this feature helps you to capture subjects in razor-sharp focus. It works by providing a 2x magnification of your subject, which is automatically cancelled when you start recording.
Zebra, Color Bars, Test Tone
The VIXIA HF G30 has a range of functions designed to pinpoint focus adjustment and exposure control for professional-level quality. Zebra pattern indicates "blown out" or high brightness areas to help you set proper exposure. Color Bars and Test Tone can be selected and recorded in order to adjust video and audio quality.
Composition Aids
With the integrated Level Marker feature, it's easy to keep the camcorder level for more accurate framing. There's also a Grid Marker that provides a reference grid in your viewfinder. The Grid Marker is also available in two different colors for better viewing contrast.
Versatile Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe
The integrated Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe allows you to attach optional Canon accessories, such as the VL-5 Video Light, VFL-2 Video Flash Light, DM-100 Directional Stereo Microphone or SM-V1 5.1-Channel Surround Microphone. However, on the VFL-2, only the video light function is supported.
Video Snapshot
Video Snapshot allows you to record a series of short video clips - or select your favorite clips while in Playback Mode - and then blend in your favorite background music to create a movie with music. This feature also allows selectable recording time of 2, 4 or 8 seconds. Plus, audio from an external source such as an MP3 player can be played along with the Snapshot movie, and playback can be controlled from that source.
Cinema-Look Filters
The camera also has nine distinct built-in Cinema-Look Filters. These adjustable filters give your footage the look of a variety of cinematic styles by compensating for the color, gamma and other aspects of the image's quality. The looks can even be previewed in the LCD display while shooting. The nine filter options include: Cinema Standard, Cool, Dramatic Black and White (B&W), Dream, Memory, Nostalgic, Old Movies, Sepia and Vivid
Programmed AE
The camera's Programmed AE exposure modes include: Smart Auto, P, Tv, Av, M (Manual exposure) and SCN (Portrait, Sports, Night, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Low Light, Spotlight, Fireworks). When using Cinema Mode, the camera supports P, Tv, Av, M exposure options.

I just received this camera and put it through most of its paces during 3 shoots. One a run and gun with a shoulder mount. Another with a "set" scene with proper lighting and such and the last, a live play where it is used as a remote camera on motorized a pan/tilt head using the LANC control for camera control. It was used as one of five cameras and as the primary close-up camera.I am not one to disagree with a person experience, but mine is pretty opposite of the one here with the low light issue. I have 5 Canon HF G10's and various other cameras over the years, and this one is REALLY GOOD in low light. I shoot a LOT of video for plays and low-light events and the G30 is OUTSTANDING in these environments!!! The caveat is, you have to work with the camera and find it's sweet spot. Just shot an event with people all in black with white gloves with only blacklight and the camera was spot on and little if any noise!!! I really like most if not all of the added features with this upgrade from the G10s, LOVE the new zoom rocker vs the old one, tons more manual adjustments than the already good G10. My Issues:1) $ prosumer camera with no memory....hmmm2) Touchscreen - it constantly misses me "pushing" a selection and slides the screen down, again this is comparing it to the G10.3) The "joystick" and function button are really hard to manipulate for my thumb, may just take a little getting used to...4) BATTERY CHANGE....OK so NONE of my other bigger batteries from my G10s work with this camera...THAT is annoying...they state that they are not compatible with the camera, but are the same voltage and connector...Thanks Canon!!5) Some of the recording formats cannot do dual card recording which I like when I am shooting live events. It means I now have no backup...6) No component out...this is more for me since all my cabling for my remote cameras are RGB....The GOOD:1) 20x ZOOM = awesome!!!2) Lens hood with door....THANK YOU!! 3) Picture...AWESOME!!!4) Low light - Great!5) Hand strap....SO much more comfortable!!6) Cold shoe....about time!!7) Color....nice8) Sharpness - nice9) LANC - SO GLAD they decided to have this, I contacted Canon and asked them if it would when they did a press release and they said it would not, would have been a deal breaker for me, so glad they did have it!!I have NOT used the wifi yet, looking forward to it...also I still need to go through some other features, but overall pretty happy!!I am only giving it 4 stars because of the memory and battery thing...just bugs me enough to take one off a star for the price. As far as what this camera does....love it!!!

First off I think that this is a wonderful camera. But in my opinion it's not meant for professional work. I've been shooting professionally for years and my first pro camera was the Panasonic HMC150, which was a great camera for its day. But lately I've been disappointed with its image quality when compared to my GH2 and GH3 cameras. So I purchased this Canon G30 to replace my aging HMC150. But when I compared the two cameras I found that the HMC150 has a brighter image with less noise than the G30. The G30 was very noisy and needed 12dB gain to match the HMC150 at zero gain. The only thing better about the G30 is it's sharper, has a longer zoom, and has 60p capability. But what good is sharpness if it's noisy? In short, I returned the G30 and am now looking at more professional cameras to replace my HMC150.

FYI, I got the G30 instead of the XA20 because the imaging sensor is exactly the same, in fact everything is exactly the same except for the XA20 has XLR audio inputs. I was planning on using a third party XLR-to-MiniJack Pre Amp with the G30.

So if you're a casual videographer or just want a home movie camera then this would be a great choice. If you're a professional then maybe not so much.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

Great Picture Quality. I love the Dual record so that I have a backup on the fly. My only CON is that the Power and composite out for my monitor is in the way for my hand on the zoom. Zoom is pretty good although there is some fuzz on the edges from time to time.

Having come from a television production rig, this camera outperforms expectations for a consumer level camera. The picture is incredible, the image stabilization works flawlessly and the low-light enhancements are impeccable. Using this camera in the outdoors is a joy given the technical capabilities packed into the small package. While the audio is not perfect, it is superior to other consumer cameras I have used. VERY impressed and pleased with this purchase.

Very happy with the camera. I've been a corporate producer for over 30 years but strangely haven't owned a personal video camera in over 20 years. Bought this to shoot my new grandson. Love the quality, weight, form factor, sound quality, ease of operation and especially like the dual recording modes. If you're looking for a top quality consumer cam, look no further

This is not my first Canon Vixia. The HF G30 is by far the best camcorder I have owned. I use this camera to shoot weddings & other events. The camera is easy to use and the picture quality is great. The only negative thing is the touch screen. I am not a big fan of them. In the future I would like to see a setup where you can connect the camera to your computer and set your settings there and also an app for the smart phone to do the same.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

This is one great camcorder although I am afraid that many owners are in over their heads according to what I see and hear. The HF G30 requires a bit of knowledge which, if you are new to videography, "read the manual".

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

The camera performs as I would expect. It is entirely satisfactory. I do wish that a company would put some thought into interface. As with every camera I have purchased recently, DLSRs and Video Cameras alike The interface is more or less unintuitive and just generally kinda awful. This camera is no better or worse than any other in this issue, but it makes the camera harder to operate gracefully. The camera does have a touch screen however that aspect of the interface does nothing to improve upon the general usability.

I am paring this camera and soon another just like it with the XA20 - Using them in a streaming/event/studio situation. Great quality!
Just finished using it in a 3 day location shoot great crisp images using cards and switching with our Blackmagic ATEM Studio system.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

This is a great camcorder for budget minded shoppers that want some of the pro level features. I have extensive background in photography, but none in videography. I bought this to videotape my new baby without having to rig-out my DSLR's. The G30 offered the best combo of high end features at the least expense price point.

                  Some pro's:
                  1) easy enough for my wife to use yet robust enough to allow me creative freedom.

                  2) I hate touch Screen's and much prefer hard buttons, but this one works just like an iPhone, very nice.

                  3) Its expensive, but it feels expensive. Sturdy solid construction. Should hold up to my wifes clumsiness.

                  Some con's:
1)I'm used to using a Canon 5Dii for my photography with easy to get to manual controls. Most of the manual adjustments on this G30 are hidden in menues. This is a hassel for me and I don't think I'll get used to it.

                  2) I started to learn videography after buying this and I now realize the importance of audio. I wish I bought the XA20 with XLR inputs and handle. Thats a huge bummer.

2 & 1/2) I also realized after purchase that this in no way compares to the quality of my Full Frame DSLR. Albiet, this is much, much easier to handle.

All-in-all, if I were to do it again, I would have bought the XA20 instead. After purchasing an auxilery handle, a shotgun mic, mounts, etc, the difference in price is narrowed. The XA20 would have eliminated much of what I had to buy additionally.

For my wife, this is hands down a great camcorder. It takes fantastic video of our family memories. Much easier to use than shooting video on my DSLR.

For me, it's a nice starter cam that sparked a new interest in videography. If I knew that I was going to get into it as much as I did, I would have gotten Canon's bigger brother's in the XA line.

The camera is fine except for poor still frame picture, and limited

view finder is clearer, larger and much improved for outdoor work - zoom lever design is improved - joystick for menus is clumsy, but very useful in the field - 20x zoom is nice -

lacks hdmi output for uncompressed recordings - has no macro focus features - bit pricey -

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

I purchased this video camera as a backup to my Sony AX2000 (~$) video camera for weddings. It comes to within millimeters of the same image quality as my Sony (imperceptable to 99% of the population). It has nearly all the same features as my Sony (and several cool features my Sony does NOT have). A caveat is that most features are menu-driven as opposed to button-driven like my Sony. BUT! The Vixia has a few programmable buttons that makes it crazy easy to activate the more heavily-used features easily. It is the ideal prosumer video camera. It's not super big (as far as impressions go), but it is bigger than Uncle Earl's camera who is shooting next to you at the cake cutting. It even has an audio VU meter in the viewfinder/LCD. Image stabilization is amazing. Yes, you have some image cropping in dynamic mode, but the camera acts like a Steadicam. Really... it is that good (in wide angle mode). Other professional features include a hot shoe for my light, a mini plug input for my wireless mic, and dual SD slots. You can shoot on one card and once it's full, have it immediately record to the second card, or you can shoot on BOTH at the same time for a back-up (cool feature). Bottom line: I now have a camera that I feel is equal in quality and features as my Sony. I can rest easy knowing if something ever happend to my by main camera at a wedding, I can still shoot and deliver amazing AVCHD interlaced or progressive video.

Typical Canon. Picture Quality is Terrific, as it usually is with Canon. Like everything in life, it's a scale; you give, you get. So terrific picture comes at the cost of a sh*tty UI and buggy / shotty WiFi feature. I still cannot figure out the WiFi on this camera, and I'm a software architect by profession.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

I like the G30 very much and would recommend it. It is a bit heavy, but all the features are exactly what I want and need. I wish the photo section was easier. The photo button on screen is wierd, where Canon S21 had a nice button on top. The manual exposure button is nice and easy. The extra option buttons are different but do offer more functions at user choice.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

I do video work for the famous band Bowling For Soup. I needed a great camera to use on the tour bus and while walking around filming everything on tour. The quality is just as good as cameras that cost 10 times this price. The image stabilization is WAY better than I was expecting. The touch screen is big and amazing quality. The 20x zoom is perfect to get long shots without getting digital noise. The picture is crystal clear! The auto settings are pretty good, but if you want the best picture quality learn how to use the manual settings. If you want better sound, just buy an external mic. The battery life is about 160 minutes.

Comments about Canon VIXIA HF G30 Full HD Camcorder:

The G-30 is a great camera for Internet streaming. I use it as my main camera on my Livestream program, and it allows me to stream in brilliant HD on the Internet. Currently the highest level you can stream on the Internet is 720p. Of course, this camera can shoot in 1080p so it also is good for many uses. It doesn't have the audio inputs like a Canon XA-10 or X25, but there are many ways to work around that. Not having the external audio jacks greatly reduces the size while still giving you all the other benefits of other cameras that cost about $1000-$1500 more. One of the best features is the 20X zoom lens. This camera can get up close and capture great detail as long as you have decent lighting. All in all it packs a lot of goodies into a small package.Canon does however need to stop installing a "Demo" mode on their consumer camcorders. When the camera sits idle for a few minutes it begins to scroll through demo images that have been pre-installed by Canon. It's a ridiculous nuisance to have to search through the menu to find the proper heading that allows you to delete this unrequested action. All in all though its a great camera for this price point.
