The Technicolor CineStyle Color Assist for Mac is an instant-playback color correction and grading software for direct use with Apple Final Cut 7 and Final Cut X, Adobe Premiere 5.5 or higher, and Adobe After Effects 5.5 or higher. Playback is render-free and hence instantaneous, and support for dual monitor output will let you play back your changes in full screen. You can apply modifications via a 3-point color correction tool, curve adjustments, a key selector, and 25 preset looks. You can monitor color information on scopes and save up to nine color compositions per video clip. All the changes are non-destructive -- you won't permanently be changing the actual footage but rather only applying layers of corrections, so you'll always be able to remove your changes and revert back to the original footage.

Color Assist supports resolutions from SD to 2K and works with popular formats and codecs.

Comments about Technicolor CineStyle Color Assist for Mac:

I am a DSLR video shooter on a budget and wanted a color grading tool to give my projects more of a film look. Previously I was using picturestyles to get my images pretty close to the final look. After seeing the results that others were getting I transitioned to doing more work in post. I wanted something that would give good results and not feel like overkill (dollar-wise or learning curve). I learned about Color Assist while browsing the web. I was impressed by the video advertisement, but honestly a bit skeptical. I downloaded the trial version of Color Assist several months ago. I was completely caught off guard by the level of control I was able to get over the clips I had shot (using Technicolor's Cinestyle picture style). The software really delivered as advertised. On my aging macbook I encountered no problems and I could see my changes and tweaks immediately. They have managed to cram a lot of useful features into a simple package. I have been a software engineer for years and I have learned to keep things simple if you want users to get work done with what you built. So don't be put off by the lack of onscreen widgets. Everything you need to monitor your color information is there and you can get pretty granular in you need too. The interface is pretty intuitive and controls are neatly tucked away in menus. I give the software 5 stars because it does what it said it would do - simply this product delivers on its promise. Watch out for reviews that claim this product doesn't do everything under the sun. It delivers "Great Images"! What more do you want? It is a part of your work flow - a nice helpful extension. And for people who need greater control than what this tool offers there are plenty of alternatives. But (regardless of budget)if you want quick and easy color grading that pushes your picture quality to a higher level you should give Color Assist a look. Keep in mind that no product will make poorly shot video shine. If the image you start with is blown out or over saturated or noisey there is not much you can do no matter what you use. I took the time to learn my camera's strengths and weaknesses, to learn lighting, and composition. I put that experience together with Technicolor's flat picturestlye and Color Assist and I got excellent results.
