The white oak camouflage 2013 edition of the M-990i Mini Cam Game Camera from Moultrie is a trail camera that is designed to capture clear photos and video of wildlife with its 10MP CMOS image sensor. It has an infrared motion sensor that triggers the shutter to take a photo or start recording HD video at 1280x720p resolution with sound. Trigger speed is under 1 sec. The 16:9 aspect ratio provides widescreen images and movies. Illumination is provided by the No Glow LED flash, and nighttime shots are made brighter and clearer by the llumi-Night sensor. Also helping produce better low-light images is the Motion Freeze image stabilization feature. The M-990i possesses a range of up to 70' at night. It's capable of time-lapse photography and 4fps continuous burst shooting. The camera is also equipped with a 2" LCD monitor for playback and menu navigation, and stamps photos with barometric pressure, phase of the moon, temperature, time and date. The M-990i records files to an SD or SDHC memory card with up to 32GB in capacity and runs on 8 AA batteries.

10MP Resolution
At the heart of the camera is a CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 10MP
PIR Motion Sensor
Passive infrared sensor detects the changes in temperature that occur when subjects move and captures images in response. Trigger speed is under 1 sec
HD Video Recording
Capture HD 1280x720p movies with sound via the built-in microphone. Video clip length is 5, 15, 30, 60 or 90 sec during the day and 20 sec at night
16:9 Aspect Ratio
For widescreen images and video
Low-Light Shooting
Illuminate subjects with the No Glow LED flash and benefit from brighter, clearer nighttime shots with the llumi-Night sensor. The Motion Freeze feature increases minimum shutter speed from 1/8 sec to 1/20 sec to stabilize low-light images
Time-Lapse Photography
The camera captures images at specified intervals throughout the day and combines them to create a time lapse video (.MLT file), which can be viewed on the included Moultrie Plot Stalker software. This occurs twice per day: once in the morning and once at night. The a.m. time lapse capture will begin 15 min before sunrise, and the evening capture will end 15 min after sunset. You can set time lapse duration using the camera's menu
Time Lapse Duration
Limit the time periods during which camera will be active. Choose from the following options: All day photo capture, capture for 1 hr twice/day, capture for 2 hr twice/day, capture for 3 hr twice/day, or capture for 4 hr twice/day
Hybrid Cam Mode
Will operate in Time Lapse mode during day and Motion Detect mode at night. A half-hour after dusk, it will switch over and capture nighttime photos when the PIR motion sensor is triggered
Continuous Burst Shooting
Capable of capturing up to 3 photos in quick succession in Multi-Shot mode, or shooting at up to 4fps in FastFire mode
LCD
Monitor providing playback and menu navigation options
Date, Time, Temperature and Barometric Pressure Stamp
The camera records the date and time of capture on your images, as well as the temperature at that time
Moon Phase Stamp
The camera stores moon phase data on its internal memory chip. By recording the phase of the moon at the time of capture on your photo, it allows you to see which animals are inactive during a full or nearly-full moon--when the brighter lighting conditions will make them more visible to predators. Moon phase also helps you determine if brighter or darker backgrounds in your images are due to the fullness of the moon
GPS Geotagging
Manually enter longitude and latitude information, which will be imprinted in the EXIF data of photos
Connectivity
Features a USB port (cable sold separately), as well as an external power port for the optional Moultrie PowerPanel or Battery Box
Memory
Accepts SD/SDHC cards up to 32GB in capacity
Security Code
Prevents unauthorized access should camera be lost or stolen, by requiring entry of 5-digit security code
Power
Runs on 8 AA batteries
Mounting
Compatible with optional EZ Tree Mount. Features integrated strap loop compatible with optional Python cable
Included Plotstalker Software
Pixel change sensitivity is adjustable among High, Medium and Low settings. A pixel change occurs when a change in color, intensity, lighting or movement is detected, so this setting is critical if you want to be able to easily jump to desired photos

This is my second Moultrie camera and I love both of them. My other model is a M100. I have compared them to my dad's similar Bushnell brand trail cam. The bushnell takes slightly better pics but the Moultrie takes better videos. Also the Moultrie has the info bar at the bottom of each pic so you can watch what time the deer are coming thru each day. The bushnells battery life seems a little better, but that will also depend on how many pics/vids each camera takes. After seeing all 3 trail cams, my next camera will again be another Moultrie.
B&H Photo's price was significantly lower, even after shipping, than any retail location that I could have picked up the same camera from. Shipping was quick and the camera well protect. (We all know what a bumpy ride packages can take in the mail) I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase both because of the product and my experience with B&H Photo.

Bought to use for surveillance where there is no power for a normal camera. Does capture motion but it triggers too easily, but too slowly. After only four days I had hundreds of files, almost all of which had absolutely nothing on them. There is a long delay between trigger and actual capture; I found that at a normal walking pace within 8 feet of the cam, it does not start recording soon enough to capture me. The claim of "less than 1 second" is inaccurate. In order to not escape the frame before capture starts, you must be roughly 8 feet from the camera and not sprinting. But for ID purposes, the subject is not clearly identifiable at that range due to being too small in the frame. And if you think "just zoom in on the frame," you're not aware of the poor image quality that makes zooming in an exercise in futility. Stills, video, does not matter. The images are compressed, soft, have chromatic aberrations, inaccurate colors, and poor control of lens flare. The menu is not intuitive at all. The interface has four individual directional buttons for the menu, but not in a standard "plus" pattern-- up/down and left/right are all stacked in a column. Even after owning it for nearly a month, I still struggle with the UI. The worst part of this cam is the battery situation. It requires eight AA batteries, and according to the rather rude and insulting Moultrie customer service rep I spoke with, this unit will not function on rechargeable batteries. I tried anyway, using nearly-new, fully-charged Duracell AA's, which I swear by in my pro shoe-mount flash units. The cam would not even power on. The camera "estimates" how many days of shooting are left on the camera, not how many images you can shoot (which is not normal camera operation), but of course after capturing less than 500 images it needed new batteries using brand-new non-rechargeable Duracell, which work perfectly for any of my needs. The box claims "9500 images" but that is not accurate at all. The only thing that is positive about this cam is the IR system. The no-glow does in fact work and the claimed 70 foot illumination distance is certainly accurate. In total darkness the camera itself emits no visible light. But trees 50 feet away and 60-80 feet tall have fully lit treetops. This camera comes with: a cheap web strap for attaching the cam to small trees, the documentation, and that's all. No disc, no low-capacity SD card. Not even a USB cable. It feels plasticky and feeble, like it will shatter if I drop it on pavement, and the build is fairly shoddy. The door windows for light sensors and the IR cover are cheaply glued in and the rubber seals around the openings are not a good, consistent fit. I expect leaks and a ruined camera sometime before spring ends.
So all in all, if you don't care about fast triggering, good image quality, or a difficult UI, or a well-built unit, but love good IR illumination of those poor images that contain nothing, then this is the camera for you. As for me, I'm stuck with a camera that is so poor I don't feel comfortable trying to sell it-- it's not fair to make someone else deal with this low-quality unit. I'd not recommend this product to anyone.

It's funny how these 'camo' things are kind of invisible to humans but, based on the number of close up 'selfies' by squirrels and deer, cats, raccoons, bears, birds...quite a curiosity to our four-legged and winged friends.BTW bears will tear these things to pieces, but if you're lucky you'll find an intact card among the debris with a few really great pics on it.

Comments about Moultrie M-990i Mini Cam Game Camera (2013, White Oak Camo):

I give this 5 stars because of the quality of the product. Just because the quality is high that doesn't mean that instructions are absolutely clear. I'm old school, if you tell me format or initialize the SD card, I'm looking for a specific menu item that says "Format" or "Initiaize". This is usually a totally separate utility from "Delete Photographs". If you understand that deleting all the pictures will format the SD card, then you'll be fine.

there is nothing this gamera does substandard. this is my second one. i made the mistake of buying an m880i thinking it would be close. big mistake as it's detection range was only 25ft even thought it was advertised @ 50ft. B&H hooked me up on the exchange and this one's detection range was 50ft with great photo's.

          thx B&H!

I wanted this camera to take motion activated pictures of wood ducks. The problem is, the minimum time delay before it takes the first picture is 5 seconds! When the duck flies in, the camera takes a picture, but the duck is out of the picture. This delay is worthless. There should be a setting to take the picture as soon as motion is detected, not 5 seconds after motion is detected! This camera is worthless!!! Do not buy this camera.

I recently purchased the Moultrie 990I trail camera from B&H and I am very pleased with the purchase. I ordered the camera from B&H online and it was delivered to my house in no time. I had no problem with the set up or the installation of the batteries. I installed standard "AA" batteries and I have been using the camera for a couple of weeks now. The camera is showing about 65%. I would venture to guess that I will have to change batteries soon. I think the picture quality is very good and have I no complaints with the images that I have seen so far. In my opinion this camera does what I expect from a trail camera. It takes adequate night pictures so you can see what is moving in a particular area, the camera is low glow so it is difficult to see when activated, and it takes nice day pictures. I have provided pictures for other readers to see. One picture shows a night picture of a Bobcat at a distance of approximately 25 feet from the camera

Comments about Moultrie M-990i Mini Cam Game Camera (2013, White Oak Camo):

very disappointed. The motion sensor not to work most of the time. 80% of the time it did not even capture a person walking past it. When I turn the camera on, half the time the screen does not show up. It seems like either the unit is malfunctioning or it's just a poor quality camera. Heavy battery drain, but that I knew beforehand from reviews.

The camera is much smaller than I expected. I didn't check the measurements when I ordered it. It is small and inconspicuous. I use it to enjoy the animals that roam my yard at night. Pictures are pretty clear. I have never used a night vision camera so wasn't sure what to expect. You can only see the red flash at night if you are right in front of the camera. Pictures taken during day are colorful and very clear. I am pleased and would definitely recommend this for someone looking to get pics of nature and not spend a ton of money. I get excited to check the camera every morning. Get a sturdy tripod to allow you to put the camera right where you want it. The camera strap is too short to go around the large trees in my yard to I added a bungee cord to help.

This is my third moultrie game camera.I realy like the size of the camera,no glow flash and the pictures viewer(a little small for my eyes).I set up the delay at 5 sec and 1 pic by motion to test the battery life.Batteries was eveready Gold alkaline.I placed the camera in our house during 2 days and takes pictures. This M990i takes 5400 pictures before missing battery.Mayby more pic with Energizer or Duracell. My old D55IR drain the batteries after 600-700 shots.I am very pleased with the battery life.Rest the reliability. This camera is made in China.I will see it with the time! Thanks to B&H photo for better price and fast shipping!Happy new year all!2013-12-31

As my first trail camera purchase, I needed one for hunting and also double as a security camera for the house. The M-990i fits the bill for both uses. On the plus side, it has no flash, and makes no noises as far as I can detect. I also like the password locking feature. My only complaint is it tends to capture video and take pictures in B&W during the day when set up inside the house, even though there seems to be adequate light inside. Reviewing video taken during the day, I noticed half the time the video was shot in black and white. Other than that, it works as described.

We have 7 Moultier Game cameras, three of them are the M-990i, and this camera with the IR filter to hide the flash turned out to be a big plus in our security monitoring around our home. We got some evidence we could never have obtained otherwise due to the minimal IR signature.
