Comments about Mad Catz R.A.T. M Wireless Mobile Gaming Mouse (Red):

I just got this mouse yesterday in the store. This review is based upon my first impressions.

          THE GOOD:
          - Fantastic looks and design. WOW! :D
          - Small, lightweight, portable, very good for travel.
          - Feels very sophisticated.
          - Buttons are well made, gives a "pro" quality impression.

          THE BAD:
          - Unit is unable to connect to my high-end (very expensive) MSI Dragon Second Edition gaming laptop via Bluetooth, running Windows 8, so I have to use the dongle, which connected without any issues.
          - The top second-left button is hard to press to the point of twisting the mouse, which can cause problems during gaming, however, it IS understandable, since a sensitive touch button would be accidently activated all the time.
          - The "roller" is so fine that I can barely feel it moving or "clicking" rolling forward/backward.
          - The software is very simple and good, the control pane can not be adjusted to wider format and the "profile" menu at the left, when opened up, pushes the entire right side into a narrow space. This panel should be able adjustable in size, width and heights. Very inconvenient.
          - Since this mouse is a "mobile" version, it is, indeed, very-very small and not particularly comfortable for a large-handed person like myself.
          - The 5D (5 directional) button feels a bit "annoying" at first, very unnatural feeling as if something is poking your thumb all the time and you can't get a good grip on the mouse itself.
          - The finger holder at the left side IS a good idea, but again, since the entire unit is so small, it is only comfy for small-handed people.
          - When switching between different profiles in the control pane, the program actually would not switch to the newly selected one till the "apply" button within that profile is pressed, which is confusing.
          - The 1 year battery life statement may be accurate under "lab-test" conditions, but after using it only for a few hours, the battery level is already down to 89%, so I seriously doubt that it will give any better battery performance than my old bluetooth mouse.

Great looks, lots of features, fantastic idea, great design, but all that with flaws. This mouse requires significant amount of time to learn, configure, set-up, and get used to it's feels and operations. Nevertheless, I would definitely recommend it to anyone seeking something new, interesting and fresh looking mouse. Hope it will work well for years to come...
