Product Highlights

  • Folds Down to 27.6"
  • Twist Locks
  • 3 Folding Feet
  • Locking Pan, Tilt, Drag Adjustments

The Benro 438T Classic Aluminum Monopod with S4 Head combine to offer photographers and videographers near-tripod stability with the benefits of flexibility and superior mobility. This machined aluminum support reaches a height of 73.2" and closes down to 27.6". Twist lock legs make operation secure and easy in any weather as does the foam grip and wrist strap. The system's most striking feature is the folding 3 feet at the bottom of the first section; they're indispensible in slippery conditions or with longer lenses. The base of the feet allows tilting for accurate leveling.

The Benro S4 Head features a large interchangeable pan bar handle that makes smooth 360° panning easy and allows a tilting range of + 90 / -75 degrees. Locking drag control allows you to match the head's tension to the weight of your camera. The head comes with a sliding quick release plate with both 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 camera screws as well as a video pin. The integrated bubble level aids in setting up level horizons.

Much better than my Manfrotto 561BHDV-1 video monopod! The red panning cartridge of my Manfrotto monopod would often bind when panning, and the leg extensions would squeak when moving which would ruin any audio recording.

Thankfully this new Benro monopod is completely silent with smooth panning. Maybe not as smooth as my old Manfrotto monopod, but it's 100 percent reliable which was far more important to me.

Comes with a nice padded carrying case too!

Overall, the monopod with the S4 head is quite heavy, especially for travel. The S4 has several quality issues: The blue button release doesn't allow the camera plate to release quickly, as there is play in the mechanism which allows the latch to push against the removable plate, restricting it from sliding rearward.

The half-moon shaped plastic dust cover under the head is loose and falls off. I had to gaffer tape it to the base to keep from losing it.

There is a definite "play" in the three feet on the 438T. With the camera attached, there is an occasional "clunk" when tension is put on the monopod... it shows up in the footage.

Comments about Benro A48T Classic Aluminum Monopod with S4 Head:

Video head has some issues, but works well on its own. I'm not sure if the monopod with feet is actually that useable: doesn't provide that much extra stability and won't really stand on its own. Probably a dedicated tripod and monopod or tripod with convert-able monopod is the way I'll go, but that is considerably more expensive once you add a video head...

Also, for a monopod to carry around it seems a bit too heavy and large.

Comments about Benro A48T Classic Aluminum Monopod with S4 Head:

Was definitely skeptical of buying this one over the manfrotto version .. But for $ cheaper i couldnt be more happier with my purchase .. It pans and tilts great .. The quick release plate is kind of a pain though .. But nevertheless nothing is perfect .. Its compact yet stutdy and works with my DSLR just fine ..

Based on first impressions, I am very happy with the Benro. It is super-tall, reasonable weight and has very nice fluid head action. I like that the extension feet allow the pod to lean back and forth without a noticeable hitch or noise. Definitely an excellent value with good fit an finish. I'll update after some field use.

Comments about Benro A48T Classic Aluminum Monopod with S4 Head:

I used to use a $15 monopod from [*] and it did the job... for the most part. My friend got this monopod with the flip leg locks and i tried it out for a few minutes and was hooked. I went ahead and purchased the slightly taller monopod with the twist leg locks. Same price which is cool. great tool. setup is simple and quick. I help shoot weddings and this monopod makes it possible for getting those more dynamic shots! highly recommended.

when space is tight and you still require stable shots from your video, this is the best monopod. the best thing is u can pop open the three feet with your foot when u r moving around capturing the shots. ofcourse in order to fold the monopod feet, u have to release the locks by hand. i believe this will be most useful to a person who is covering video sports, sitting in their own seat pull up the monopod and get the most stable shots, without requiring to have space for unfolding monopod.
