The black LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens from Panasonic is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens compatible with cameras featuring the Micro Four Thirds lens mount. Its 14-140mm focal length is equivalent to 28-280mm in 35mm format, and provides a 75-8.8° angle of view. The POWER Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) keeps your images free of blur, even if your hands are unsteady, by compensating for camera shake twice as effectively as MEGA O.I.S.

The lens contains three aspherical elements to eliminate coma and other types of lens aberration, and two ED glass elements to enhance sharpness and color correction by minimizing chromatic aberration. Multi-coated lens elements minimize ghosting and flare. The Internal Focusing system lets you focus without altering the size of the lens, enabling a closer minimum focusing distance of 0.98' at the widest focal lengths (14-21mm) and 1.64' at 22-140mm.

Additionally, the lens utilizes a stepping motor to enable smooth, silent focusing during both photo and video capture. The circular aperture diaphragm features seven blades that create visually pleasing bokeh in the out-of-focus regions of the image. When used with certain compatible cameras, including the DMC-GH3/G6, the lens supports high-speed shooting at up to 240 fps to take advantage of contrast AF.

The 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 is compact and lightweight, with a 67mm diameter and an overall length of 2.95", but features a durable metal mount. It accepts 58mm filters. Supplied with the lens are front and rear caps, a lens hood for blocking out unwanted light, and a convenient storage bag.

As a user of bridge cameras, micro 4/3 systems, and on occasion, DSLRs, I have come to realize that there is a time and place for all of them. For sheer "do it all" convenience, nothing can touch the wide zoom range and compact size of a bridge camera, and for the absolute best shots, a DSLR with a fixed focal length prime lens is king. For those times where I want better images than the bridge camera can produce and/or I am shooting in less than optimal conditions, while at the same time, not wanting to be bothered with a DSLR and a bag of lenses, this Panasonic 14-140 lens, attached to a G5 body fits the bill. I received mine recently and used it for the first time at Staten Island's Great Kills Harbor, taking random shots in bright sunlight. They were awesome; rivaling an entry to mid level DSLR. That weekend, I gave it a real workout at a cousin's wedding which was held in a poorly lit venue. While I did get a few "keepers", most of the shots were either blurred, and/or the focus was off. In retrospect, I probably could have done better had I had more time to practice with it, and used manual focus. All of the wedding shots were taken in "full auto" To sum it up, if you are looking for a vacation/walk around lens that will give you great outdoor shots without excessive bulk, this is the real deal. If, one the other hand, you are interested in night photography or indoor concerts, you are bringing a knife to a gunfight.

I wanted to use this lens for video work, ENG style stooting. But it seems to have some sort of electronic constant focus system that attempts to maintain focal distance during zooms. In other words, they tried to make it parfocal. It is sort of works, as it will maintain focus where you set it, but not during a zoom. As you zoom in or out, the focus will flutter, causing a rather ugly effect. Once you stop zooming, the focus will settle back to where you set it. But the fluttering/shifting focus effect during a zoom is very noticable. Depending on the situation, the whole image will jump out of focus for a moment, then jump back into focus, then jump out agin, etc. If you do not need to shoot while zooming, this is probably not a problem for you. So still photography, or narrative film, probably fine. But if you need to include any sort of zooming within a video shot, this lens will not be a good choice. Unless they are able to fix this with some sort of firmware update. I know there is an older version of this lens, but I don't know if it has the same problem.

I have both versions of this lens, and they are both excellent. The f/3.5 version is a half pound lighter that the f/4 version and is sharp corner to corner at 140mm and f/3.5. What a delight it is to cary on my GH3 and G5!

I have only used this about four times now, but already I can't imagine not having this lens. I've read other people's comments that this lens is their primary lens, but haven't really understood what they meant by that comment.

Your ability to compose multiplies by many times and is well worth the 3 oz increase in weight from the standard 3x zoom lens that comes with the G5.

Lens stabilization seems to work well. I have taken a number of photos at close to the 10x extreme and have not one photo with any sign of blur.

I purchased this to test out the new Panasonic GH4. I was about to purchase the 12-35 and 35-100 mm lenses for well over 2K, but being new to panasonic I decided to try this lens first. #1 there was a back order so I purchased the older version of this lens. I was very disappointed. When this lens came in it was perfect. Smaller and lighter than previous model. completely silent when shooting video. And very high quality pictures and 4K movies. Unfortunately Panasonic doesn't offer any thing in their Higher End lenses that compares. your forced to buy the two mentioned above. If you don't want to spend $1500 + $900 for the other two lenses, or you just want an all-purpose lens...You Will Be Happy With This Lens. Regardless of what I decide I will keep this lens. Extremely impressed.

So far I didn't find anything that I don't like about this lens. It takes fantastic landscape pictures and I also can use it for close up photos of wildlife. The pictures are very clear. I just love the wide range of possibilities. The zoom is smooth. I use this lens on a Panasonic Lumiz DMC-GH3.

I use this lens in place of carrying the 12-35 and 35-100 f/2.8 lenses on a GH4. While a fairly significant compromise, the lens has surprised me with the image quality. To me, its best use is a walk around lens when you are out and about in good light. I have found that the GH4 works well in high iso so you actually can get more use with this lens in lower (but not low) light situations. I upgraded from the older version and believe it was worth it.

Comments about LUMIX G VARIO 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens (Black):

I upgraded from the original 14-140 f/4 lens. IQ of the new one seems at least as good, haven't done any pixel peeping comparisons. For me the important things are smaller, lighter, and most importantly, no zoom creep. For these reasons I'm using it far more as my walkaround lens than I ever did with the previous version. With my G5 and a Luma cinch strap it's a very unobtrusive combo. I can take it to the playground and it stays out of the way while I manage our toddler on the equipment. Didn't really work with the original 14-140 because it would creep out to full zoom while moving around.

I can confirm that it seems more susceptible to shutter shock than my other OIS lenses (14-45, 45, 100-300), but at 1/400 or faster it's not an issue. E-shutter is the best option if you're not shooting a moving subject.

I considered getting rid of the 14-45 for the duplicate range. However, I don't need 10x indoors and the 14-45 is significantly smaller and lighter. It's less likely to cause a shadow when using flash on a close subject. And while it's not immune to shutter shock, it's less noticeable and I'm not worried about using mechanical shutter with it. I wouldn't want to use the 14-140 with mechanical shutter below 1/320, and for that reason I consider it an outdoor only lens for now. I'm hoping that at some point in the relatively near future Panasonic will offer a G/GX/GH body with electronic first curtain shutter, which would give the 14-140 a chance to be more useful indoors.

The way to stay out of that problem is to either use the E-shutter or set your shutter speed at 400 or above. I really takes nice photos considering it is a 10x lens.

Ok, it's a super zoom so you shouldn't expect prime performance. Ok, it's a variable zoom that is acceptably fast. But it is consistently sharp through the range, the OIS works well, relative to its DX or FX cousins it is really small and light. For a one-solution travel lens it works exceptionally well and performs better than any DX super zoom I've used.

I have been using an DSLR for the past 10+ years. I am tired of carrying around all that weight. Ive been looking around for an alternative. I have tried OM-D with a Olympuis 14-140 zzom. But it just did not feel comfortable. So, when the Lumix GX7 came out, I went to B & H to check it out. I had the Lumix 14-140 lens installed. Right off the bat, it felt very comfortable. Also, it's reasonably light weight. The Lumix GX7 and the Lumix 14-140 zoom has become my all around go everywhere camera. The lens produces very sharp images. I would recommend this camera setup to anyone.

Great all around lens. Covers from a good wide angle to a very respectable telephoto. It would be nice to have f2.8 and a better macro but it does do the job I was looking for. That is a good wide angle with a decent telephoto, 28 to 280 35mm equivalent.

14-140mm = 28-280mm 35mm equivalent. Smaller and lighter (60% of weight) of other Panasonic Lumix 14-140mm. Yes, cost more but worth it. Also higher DxO marks

I use this on my BM pocket. It's absolutely wonderful. The image is sharp and clear, both at normal and zoomed and the action is smooth. Considering the size of the lens it's easy to hold, even on a small camera.

I own a Panasonic GH2 camera that I use as a back-up/secondary video camera at weddings and other events. I also take my GH2 with me on family vacations and parties. I have used Panasonic's older 14-140 model (Mfr # H-VS014140) and was happy with the photo and video results, so I decided to spend some extra money on the new H-FS14140K due to its light weight as well as improved aperture range compared with the previous model. This lens is very light weight and takes great pictures; however, it emits a low pitch whirling/humming noise. It is hardly noticeable, but it is picked up by the on camera microphone. Hopefully Panasonic can fix this issue with a firmware update. However, I am planning on returning this model in exchange for the previous lens.

I would not recommend this lens if you are planning on using it for video.

Finally I was able to find one of this lens as it was out of stock in many places. I had my first opportunity use on a event (dance performance) with this lens attached to Panasonic AF100. I shot the video in auto focus mode and I see that is keeps loosing focus for no reason. First I was thinking it is loosing focus when I was trying to zoom in and out but it is loosing focus even when I am not doing anything. I have to say I am really impressed with the picture quality I got when it could focus.

I look for firmware upgrade if there is one to fix this problem and if not it is going back for return.

I also think it is hightly priced.
