The Giottos Pro Series 9384 Aluminum YTL Silk Road Tripod rises to a maximum height of 71.7" and weighs in at 4.4 lb while supporting up to 17.6 lb. But that's just the basics. It has a center column with a unique cantilevered design that allows it to tilt 180 degrees in its yoke and rotate 360 degrees. It also has a ballast hook at the bottom to add stabilizing weights. Thanks to the combination of the column and the 9384's 3 position leg spreading feature, you're able to shoot as low as 7.0" from the ground. The 4 leg sections offer a padded first section and Quick Lever Locks for easy operation and optional spiked feet. The lowest leg has 8 calibration marks at 2.0" intervals to make precise leveling easy.

Note: This listing is for tripod legs only. Your choice of tripod head is available for separate purchase. However, the included short column with patented AutoSafety Lock can be used for limited 2-way control even when not using a head.

Comments about Giottos Pro Series 9384 Aluminum YTL Silk Road Tripod:

This is an excellent tripod. I selected it because it's dimensions best match my needs: short when closed, tall open, and had the pivoting center. In fact with my Bogen 3030 head, it is too tall...without the center extended at all. I'm 6'. The increment markings on the lower leg sections solve this problem. I leave them 2 marks (4") from fully extended. Then my D7000 viewfinder is exactly at eye level when I'm standing. The tripod feels as solid as a rock, with legs fully extended. I don't see any reason I'd ever need to extend the center column and haven't yet, except to use the tilting feature. The leg locks are tight and strong, and I can open or close all three at once, with a little muscle. These should last. I got the optional feet, they are excellent and the spike still works at oblique angles as the rubber is not wide. The leg angle locks are very solid and strong. All in all this is a very solid, strong, yet versatile tripod. It's short and compact enough to easily go with me motorcycle touring, sideways on the back and still not interfere with the rear views. Or to fit in the saddles. I'm very happy with it. I bought a Hakuba PSTC 100 Medium Pro Series Tripod Case, 27" long, and the 9384 with the big Bogen head fits perfectly. What a ridiculously high quality padded case for $, and roomy enough for light stand or other gear as well. -- Happy Camper

Comments about Giottos Pro Series 9384 Aluminum YTL Silk Road Tripod:

This is my first tripod and overall I think it will do the job. I got this for long exposures and night time photography and think it will handle my set-up nicely. With the Y column, be prepared to only have three places to be able to put the center column back down it you use the extendable arm. Those spots are marked on the tripod but look to be painted on. So no idea how long they will last. That is really the only thing I don't like about it. And the instructions don't really help if you want to put in the short column. For that you need to email giottosusa.
