The Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount) is a moderate telephoto prime lens designed for use on cameras with APS-C format sensors and as such provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 75mm. This lens is compatible with Fujifilm X mirrorless cameras and supports all camera functions, including autofocus and exposure control. With a 1:1 magnification ratio, it offers close-up macro capability and its minimum focus distance is 6". An f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low light and provides shallow depth of field focus.

A complex floating lens system ensures a uniform length when focusing and provides consistently sharp performance. The optical design includes two aspherical elements and two anomalous partial dispersion elements which minimize lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberrations. Its nearly circular 9-blade diaphragm combined with depth of field control enables imaging with a soft, pleasing, out-of-focus background. It is an ideal lens for portraiture, still-life, landscape and numerous other photo and video applications.

The physical construction of the lens features a sleek, all black, metal lens barrel with rubberized control rings for smooth precision when working with manual focus. A metal bayonet mount ensures accurate alignment. Aperture stops are clearly marked in white on the lens barrel for manual exposure control.

Fujifilm X Compatibility
Designed for use on Fujifilm X-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras, its 35mm focal length equivalence is 75mm. The lens offers complete compatibility with all camera functions, including accurate autofocus and exposure control. It features a wide f/2.8 maximum aperture for effective low-light shooting as well as greater control over the focus plane for shallow depth of field and selective focus applications.
Optical Design
A floating element design provides images with sharp delineation and means the lens does not extend during focus. The optical construction includes two aspherical elements and two anomalous partial dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion.
Physical Design
A durable metal barrel with rubberized control rings provide improved handling. The metal bayonet mount ensures a solid connection between the camera and lens, and a nine-blade, nearly circular aperture is used to render soft, out-of-focus highlights.

Comments about Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount):

This is a very sharp lens and easy to use for my macro work. It is a little heavy on my Fujifilm X-t1 for hand-held work in the field but works well with a tripod using timed shutter release. The bokeh is lovely and it is fast to focus on either auto or manual. It should also be good as a portrait lens or for other mild telephoto uses.

Comments about Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount):

I played with this much hyped lens for a week and finally decided to return it. I own and treasure both the Touit 32 and 12 and they're gems. At 100% magnification, the sharpness from the 32 mm beats the 50 mm hands down. Please note that I mounted the camera with the macro lens on a tripod. So, if you're considering this lens for macro work, forget it and get the Fuji instead. If you're considering this lens for portraits, I recommend evaluating Fuji's 56mm lens that is 2+ stops faster. I guess, that Zeiss hurriedly launched this lemon in order to compete with Fuji's excellent offerings in 2 distinct product categories - macro and portrait. While a macro lens needs biting sharpness, a portrait lens needs to pare down sharpness for flattering skin renditions. The result of Zeiss' compromise formula is evident in the Touit 50m. Will we ever have separate offerings of a true macro and a true portrait lens in the Touit line?

Comments about Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount):

I already own Fuji's XF60mm F2.4 R Macro lens, and purchased the Zeiss because of it's 1:1 magnification ratio, as I am predominantly a flower photographer. Of course, I also expected increased sharpness, etc., just because of who is was manufactured by. The lens is scary-sharp from wide open through F/22. In relation to the Fuji 60mm, it seems to produce maybe 1/2 stop more brightness with the same camera(X-E1) settings, although I arrive at this point subjectively. It focuses almost exactly like the Fuji 60mm, slow and laboring if you "miss" the focus point and the lens travels to infinity and back. I only use it in manual focus mode, in conjunction with my X-E1's Autofocus lock. It is a little noisy as the lens resolves to the new position as the focus ring is turned. It is not a sports lens due to the slowness of it's contast-based focus method. You can use old film camera/manual focus tricks such as pre-focusing for action shots if you're willing to work on your hand-to-eye coordination. Works at my Grand-daughter's soccer games fine, but may be risky if you're on assignment to cover an Olympic event. Then why 5 stars? Here it is for me. I wanted an extremely sharp 1:1 macro lens to photography flowers. There won't be a better one for this purpose made for the Fuji X-series. AF-L, then manually fine tune focus (with focus-peaking), then make the capture with 2-second timer engaged, most of the time on a tripod. That would be my workflow in any case. I got exactly what I wanted.

Comments about Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M Lens (Fujifilm X-Mount):

I bought the lens yesterday and found it to be extremely smooth and well built. The aperture ring has very distinct steps and is very nice to use. Output quality so far meets my very high expectations for this lens. Focus can sometimes be a bit slow but is acceptable for my type of usage with this lens.

I can't say enough about this lens. It is super sharp, very well built and and a prime example (pardon the pun) of why Zeiss has a stellar reputation. This is my first Zeiss lens and I envision a long relationship with several more in my bag. I really do love this lens!
