The slate grey Transit Backpack 350 AW from Lowepro is versatile travel bag made of weather-resistant 600D polyester. It can accommodate a DSLR with a 70-200mm f/2.8 or a 300mm f/2.8 lens attached, two additional lenses, a flash and accessories, including a compact tripod. There is also a dedicated compartment at the back of the backpack that will accommodate most 15" laptops.

The modular UltraFlex internal divider system allows you to choose one of two compartment configurations for your photo gear in the bag. The first is the dual compartment option featuring a separate top area and a main camera area with quick side-access to your DSLR with a 70-200mm sized lens attached.

The second configuration can be created by opening the zipper on the front flap all the way around. The top compartment has a red tab on the bottom that can be pulled up to separate the hook and loop field and pushed down to combine the two compartments and create a more spacious main compartment in the bag. Pushing down the tab also reveals a padded holder that is contoured to support your DSLR when a 300mm f/2.8 lens is attached. The rest of your gear can be arranged using the padded dividers in the remaining space next to the attached lens.

For storing smaller items, the Transit Backpack has a hidden passport pocket on the outside of the front flap and a zippered accessory pocket with a key chain strap on the inside. There are two open mesh pockets along the back inside the top compartment. For carrying the bag, you can use the backpack straps as well as the nylon webbed grab handle at the top of the bag.

Laptops from different brands vary in size, please verify that the dimensions of your model will fit inside the laptop compartment
Hideaway tripod mount secures a compact tripod to side of backpack using a pull-out tripod cup and nylon strap with quick-release buckle
Included all-weather cover hidden at bottom front of bag can keep gear dry in rain or snow

I chose to take this bag to Yellowstone last week in the winter snow because I thought I could get a lot of equipment in it and also have easy access to my camera through the side entry door. By reconfiguring the inside I was able to take two camera bodies (Nikon D7001 and D7000), Nikon lenses 18-200, 80-200, 10-24, 35 and Tamron 200-500 all with hoods and an SB600 flash, cleaning supplies, 3 spare batteries, accessories. On top of all that, I attached my Manfrotto 4 section graphite tripod with RRS ballhead onto the side strap/support. And then it also carried my iPad which I decided to take instead of my laptop but the laptop also would have fit. By taking the iPad, I also fit my Bose headphone case in the laptop pocket with the iPad. It was tight but I never thought I could get this all into and onto one bag but it worked out. Obviously it was heavy but this simplified air travel immensely. I don't check or gate check any camera equipment. It goes overhead or under a seat - period. Also as another pleasant surprise, the bag stands vertically by itself with all of this stuff in and on it. Unbelievable!! Simply the best bag I have ever used. My old Delsey shoulder bag is also great but not as great as this one. I also have two other Lowepro bags but this one is far superior to those other good bags also.

The only thing that would make this bag even better is a D-ring to hook a carabiner onto. I used the top hand holding loop instead to hook onto.

    Works Well

This bag isn't as large as I thought, I wish it would have been a little deeper. Laptop fits snug and no place for the power source. The color is not that attractive.

    An ideal package!

    By Graphicai

Comments about Lowepro Transit Backpack 350 AW (Slate Grey):

I wanted a camera backpack that would fit under a plane seat, yet spacious enough to carry all my gear (well, most of it) and not be a strain on my back. I narrowed the selection down to this model. The specs suggest that this bag will fit a camera body and 2 to 3 lenses. Well, I guess I got this bag to over perform: I have in this bag a Nikon body and no less than 6 lenses: 50mm, 40mm Micro, 18~105mm, 10~24mm, 70~300mm and a 200~500mm lens! I also have a cleaning kit, a microphone kit, several batteries, SD cards, an iPad, a tripod and monopod strapped to the side, a few filters and other small accessories and cables. The bag feels heavy if I lift it with one hand but once it's on my back, I can walk around for hours and forget it's even there. (I used to carry a whole lot more analog video equipment in the 80s so this feels much lighter).

I have travelled in several planes and have always managed to stuff this bag under the seat in front of me. No, it doesn't leave much room for my feet but with planes cramped these days as is, it wouldn't make much of a difference if I had no bag in front of me or this one. One flight was over 12 hours and I managed to deal with this bag at my feet.

All my equipment has survived all my trips and I am very happy with it. With careful planning, it can pack more than you think...

Comments about Lowepro Transit Backpack 350 AW (Slate Grey):

Very sturdy and light. Fits well against the back and has strong straps. There are enough compartments that can be customized in the ICU like camera storage segment. Rain cover and tripod holder straps on the sides are a plus. The highlight of course being the zipper opening on the side to just pull out or stow back the camera in its place. It is super convenient when I want to quickly pop out my camera to use it.

Negative is that it has no pouch or mesh pockets to store water bottles or any other items on the side. Makes it a negative to take this when going on hikes. The laptop compartment is tight but it fits my 14.5" laptop and new 15" Macbook Pro with ease. There is no storage for any notebooks or small notepad whatsoever so this is purely a camera bag and cannot be doubled up for multi-purpose use

I purchased this as a primary carrier for my camera and laptop, along with accessories. It is extremely comfortable and feels secure on my back. I've used it on a month long tour of the country so far and for the most part it's great! Only downside is the construction for the top half of the pack seems to cave in, so there could be some more support there. Otherwise fantastic!

I have a nikon d610, 50 f/1.4, nikon 14-24 2.8, gorillapod tripod, shutter release, mac book pro retina 15", and other small accessories with space to spare. I also use the tripod strap on the side when I take it.

Comments about Lowepro Transit Backpack 350 AW (Slate Grey):

I had Lowepro's Slingshot bag and got good use from it for many years, but when I purchased a heavier camera and lenses (plus longer lenses) the single strap was uncomfortable and the bag was a bit too small. Two straps and a belt are needed for heavy loads and the Transit Backpack with its side opening provides much of the convenience of the SlingShot while providing more space and better distribution of the weight. My only criticism is that the belt could have a buckle that is less likely to slip.
I haven't used the backpack long enough to judge its durability.

When I saw the pictures of the Transit Backpack I was excited to get a look at it. The day I saw it, I was immediately sold!!! I bought it that day and have never regretted! If you want a functional backpack that has waterproof, this is this one!!

This backpack has enough space for 3 lenses (24-70) plus my camera. I like the fact that this is roomy enough to fit more in it then the normal over the shoulder woman's camera bag. It is a lot bigger then what I would like to carry, but I know my gear is going to be safe for traveling and carrying around during shoots.

This bag has a little something for everyone. It easily holds an SLR with lens attached, in addition to effortlessly fitting at least 2 other lenses, a large flash, and many other accessories! To top it off, it also has a laptop sleeve and the main compartment has plenty of space to hold the charge cord for the computer. Great for travel and counts as a carry on bag. Worth every penny!

Bought this because I wanted a pack that had enough space for a long lens attached as well as other gear..AND a compartment for personal items. The only drawback is that the two side "pockets" are not adjustable and are just a tad too small for a water bottle to fit into. Other than that, the backpack is perfect for me, is very light and even though you don't have a choice of colors, I happen to really like the slate grey.

For the money, this is an incredible backpack. I use it primarily for quick location shoots around the city when I don't want to take everything I own. It holds quite a bit of stuff, including a few pro lenses, a pro body or two, and all the fixins. If your tripod is small enough, it can also handle that. I rarely carry a laptop when I work, but I've been using the laptop sleeve to carry a 9x12 portfolio with print samples. If you want to sell prints, you better have something to show people. I also carry a mini softbox in there for my speedlites, which is always great to have. But the bag isn't without a couple of little issues:

My first issue with it is that the pocket on the front is so small as to be basically worthless. I keep some business cards and some earbuds in there, and that's about it.

My second issue with it is that it could really use some more internal pockets. Photographers have to carry a lot of little things like cables, batteries, memory cards, lens cloths, etc., and it's good if you can keep them organized.

Basically, if you need a great everyday camera bag and you're short on budget, stop looking now; this is the bag for you.

Also, LowePro, what's up with some other colors?

Asked for this bag for my birthday after careful research. It was exactly as expected. Good for my 7D and extras as well and feels comfortable for me while carrying gear. Good quality, perfect for a photo hike. Only cons but not my opinion is that my family thinks I look like a walking turtle. I love it either way.
