  • Metallic Lens Barrel

The silver Nikon 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens is a fast medium telephoto-length prime lens designed for use with the Nikon 1 series of mirrorless digital cameras. The 32mm focal length is equivalent to a 86.4mm in the 35mm format, and coupled with the maximum f/1.2 aperture renders this lens ideal for portraiture due to its longer-than-normal perspective and ability to produce imagery with a shallow depth of field. Also contributing to offering greater control over focus placement is the inclusion of a manual focus ring, which can be used in both manual and auto focusing modes due to the M/A manual focus override capability. When working in autofocus modes, a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) focusing mechanism provides smooth, fast, and quiet focusing performance that is ideal for use when recording HD video.

This lens utilizes a floating element design as part of the Close Range Correction (CRC) System to produce sharper, clear images when working at closer distances. Additionally, a Nano Crystal Coat has been applied to lens elements to minimize internal and surface reflections to prevent lens flare and ghosting in order to create vivid and contrast-rich imagery.

The lens barrel features a silver metallic exterior that is well-paired to the design and appearance of Nikon 1 mirrorless cameras. Its small and lightweight form-factor is especially beneficial for everyday use and well matched to the overall compact system.

Fast Portrait-Length Prime Lens
This lens features a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 86.4mm and a fast maximum aperture of f/1.2, making it ideal for portraiture due to its ability to produce a shallow depth of field with an aesthetic out-of-focus quality. The fast maximum aperture is also well suited to working in dim and difficult lighting conditions.
SWM and Manual Focusing
This is the first lens in the 1 NIKKOR series to integrate a Silent Wave Motor into its design to provide smooth, fast, and near-silent focusing capabilities akin to NIKKOR lenses designed for DSLRs. These properties are ideally-suited to recording HD video and for use when tracking moving subjects.

Aside from advanced autofocus, a manual focus ring and manual-priority (M/A) autofocus allow for precise and deliberate focusing. The manual focus ring gives greater tactile control over the point of focus and the M/A system allows you to manually override the AF system in order to selectively choose the exact point of focus.
Nano Crystal Coat
This lens is also the first 1 NIKKOR lens to feature a Nano Crystal Coat anti-reflective coating to help improve image quality by way of minimizing reflections. This coating helps to eliminate both surface and internal reflections to prevent flare and ghosting and produce imagery with greater contrast, improved color fidelity, and sharper textural reproduction.

Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Silver):

This is one of the lens that every Nikon 1 shooter should have in their bag. This lens is the shrunk down version of Nikon's 85mm 1.4. The good: Sharp with enough resolution to show off your 18mp Nikon 1 sensor in all its glory. This lens is clear, crisp, with great Contrast. This lens has a focal point of view (POV) equal to about an 86mm fx lens, and with a 1.2 aperture it is a killer combination. Best used for taking detailed images of subjects that fill the frame and with the best light gathering in the Nikon 1 range, low light may be in your next outing.Highly recommended if you like a flat field semi telephoto lens. Not recommended for the wide shooters.Cons: Had to buy a silver version, Nikon had the black verion on back order for months, must have ran out of paint.Larger and heavier than other Nikon 1 lens, but should be expected due to the amount of glass inside. Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Black):

While the crop factor on the 1" sensor increase depth of field compared to similar effective focal lengths on larger sensors, this lens provides great shallow depth of field. I like having the longer reach for portraits since I don't like being in the face of subjects, especially unsuspecting ones. This lens delivers in spades!

This is a pro level lens for the 1 series. Built better than most of Nikon's full frame AFS lenses with solid metal body and super smooth manual focus ring.

This is the best lens in the Nikon 1 mount. Super sharp, fast focus, nice bokeh

Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Black):

As advertised, this lens is a replacement for a full-frame 85mm lens. However, because of the frame size, the DoF is a bit greater than that of the 85mm. For example, at f/1.2 and 10 feet distance the "85" on a film camera has a 3.5" DoF. Under the same conditions, the "32" on a 1-Nikon body has a 9.25" DoF. Although noticeable, it is acceptable.

Going a bit further, DoF markings would be real nice to allow focusng at hyperfocal distance.

Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Black):

I've been using this lens for a month and all I can say is WOW!. It is small, lightweight, incredibly well built, super fast, great in low light and sharp as a tack. The sharpest and most professional lens for a V1 or V2. Of course it won't have the same DOF as an 85mm lens on a full frame DSLR, but that's OK. Nevertheless, great bokeh and out of focus rendering. Not inexpensive, but well worth the price if you are serious about taking your N1 system to higher level. An f/1.2 lens for your N1 camera - enough said.

Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Black):

It is a bit frustrating that there are no markings whatever on the lens itself but I knew that before making the purchase.

I purchased it to mimic an 85mm lens on a full-frame camera and it almost does it. The one surprise is the DoF. While narrow enough for my purposes, it's not as slim as an 85mm lens with FF. Admittedly, I should have realized this ahead of time but, fortunately, the difference is not enough to impact my usage of the lens. Example: at f/1.2, this lens has about nine or ten inches of DoF while the 85mm on FF has only three inches.

Comments about 1 NIKKOR 32mm f/1.2 Lens (Black):

My first outing with the new lens told me what I wanted to know, that cranked wide open in evening shade, I could easily and crisply capture motion, without needing to boost my ISO above the basic 160 (I was using a Nikon 1 V2). I was photographing dancers in a park and the gorgeous f/1.2 bokeh nicely blurred out spectators in the background. Results were more than satisfactory.

An unexpected bonus was the fact that for the first time ever, I actually needed to step back to take portraits. The 86mm-equivalent focal length of this lens was made to order for such a situation. Never did a performer need to feel I was crowding in on them.

I own all of the 1 Nikkor lenses (other than the PD zoom) and this 32mm f/1.2 now holds a special place among them. Yes, well worth the price.
