Comments about MSI GT70 2OD-039US 17.3" Gaming Notebook Computer (Dragon Edition 2):

I use the computer mostly for photo editing and it has proven very effective - it handles some 1GB psd files with ease, and the typical 200-300MB files I work with run fast and easy - I also intend to use it for video editing, but I have not done enough of it yet to have an option except that it opens Premiere Pro quickly and scrubs video effortlessly ... it does occasionally turn the bluetooth off on its own for some reason, but this is just a small annoyance because I have a bt mouse - the sound is nice but could be a little fuller, though when I want good sound I connect headphones and get amazing sound ...

        TIPICAL MSI "QUALITY" + WINDOWS 8! :(

Comments about MSI GT70 2OD-039US 17.3" Gaming Notebook Computer (Dragon Edition 2):

              THE GOOD:
              - The new 4th Generation Intel i7 Haswell CPU really made a big difference in performance, especially when it comes to Hi-Def video editing and animation.
              - The 32 GBs of RAM is absolutely fantastic! You can run virtually all of your heavy-duty programs (not stupid little apps but real programs) and the RAM meter barely goes up.
              - The new WiFi adapter is much better than the previous models' adapters, the signal is strong and steady.
              - The "Dragon Theme" looks very nice indeed, gives a unique style to this model.
              - The triple SSD "Super-Raid-2" configuration makes this laptop very fast, even large programs load significantly faster than on a regular Hard Drive, even Raid-0 dual hard drives.
              - The 4-at-once (laptop monitor + three external at once) display option (Matrix Display) gives a new opportunity for hard-core users to split their workload into 4 displays at the same time and handle each one as a unique computer display, which is really good and simplifies a lot of tasks, while getting rid of clutter on a single screen.
              - The newly modified cooling system delivers on its promise and keeps the laptop very cool indeed, even in warm rooms or areas.

              THE BAD:
              - MSI's built-in microphone is absolute GARBAGE! The basic static noise is so loud as if you are in a wind-tunnel! On top of that, the voice has a "jar" effect, as if you were talking into a jar with an echo, making any conversation unintelligible and the microphone useless! It is quite outrageous that you get a significantly better and superior performing built-in mic from a $300- netbook or a cheap phone versus a $3,000- top of the line laptop. MSI only has excuses but no solution on a $20 problem! :(
              - The bluetooth mouse looses connection constantly and the only way to get the connection back is by rebooting the computer. In short: it sucks!
              - Windows 8 - the worst of the worst OS ever made by any humanoid life-form on this planet! Designed for uber-morons to check the weather or order something from the stupid xBox store, or perhaps check the stock-market, as if anybody would do that from Win 8s "Metro" style gigantic billboard and commercial advertising surface! For regular users or "power-users", this OS is an absolute NIGHTMARE! Luckily there are third-party applications that can overcome and circumvent the entire Win8 interface, but for non-experienced users it will be a challenge most will not be able to overcome. So the obvious question: WHY OH WHY did MSI NOT offer this machine with a Win7 option or "downgrade", when obviously such a laptop only needed by power-users or hard-core gamers, neither would use the Win8 OS wannabe junkyard of all times in that wasteland of Microsoft's latest abyss of lost intelligence! There is NOTHING good about Win8, so Win7 should have been offered as an alternative with this laptop!
              - The Canadian consumers also get additional "goodies" with their identical model, such as a hat, a dragon theme backpack and mouse, which we here in the US do not get. WHY is that? Especially when we pay the same price?! :(
              - The new and latest NVIDIA GeForce 780m video card performed about 30% LOWER than the previous MSI GT70 with the 680m video card in Unigine Heaven! The old model scored 1700+ while this one only scored 1300+, which is rather disappointing for people spending all this money for a top-performing "monster" of a gaming laptop.
              - There is no change in the top "shiny" surface around the keyboard, the same as before, which collects and reflects every single particle and fingerprints, making the whole laptop dirty all the time!
              - The "CPU TURBO" button is gone! Only the turbo-cooler is available. Maybe it's because this new CPU does all the "turbo-charging" when it needs it, but as far as I know, so could the previous i7 CPU, so it's a bit of confusing.

For the price I expected MUCH better benchmark performances, especially in the Video-Card "department" from this laptop. For me personally, Windows-8 is absolute JUNK! I can't say a single "good" thing about it! If you only check the weather and use email or chat, you certainly don't need a $3,000- value laptop. For gamers, this machine certainly delivers the ultimate maximum experience and then some, but for a very hefty price-tag. The built-in microphones horrendous performance is another negative that I cannot emphasize enough. So overall, this is a typical MSI machine. Fancy looking, great specs on paper, but gigantic disappointment in actual use. Therefore I would NOT recommend buying this model!
