This Underwater Housing from Ikelite is a waterproof case enabling you to shoot beneath the water's surface with your Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or GH4 mirrorless Micro Four Thirds digital camera. It has a depth rating of 200'.

The housing provides access to all essential camera functions via mechanical controls placed within comfortable reach. The case is constructed from durable, corrosion-resistant polycarbonate, which is clear to enable you to monitor the O-ring seal and camera. Housing buoyancy is nearly neutral in freshwater. A compatible lens port from Ikelite's Standard or Modular system is required and sold separately.

Though the camera's built-in flash is not usable, the housing supports TTL flash metering with optional external strobes--without requiring the built-in flash to fire. Strobes connect to the housing via optional sync cords. Tweak your exposure or take total control without taking your hand off the housing. Non-Ikelite strobes may also be used, but will provide manual exposure only.

Included with the housing is an aluminum tray with rubberized right and left-hand grips for improved handling and the attachment of external lighting arms, strobes and video lights. Also supplied are two sets of zoom gear sleeves: one for use with large-diameter zoom lenses, and the other for use with smaller-diameter zooms. The housing is made by hand in the USA.

Controls
Provides access to all essential camera functions via mechanical controls placed within comfortable reach. Quickly access the video record start/stop and AF lock controls via your thumb--without removing your hand from the grips. A lever control ensures that your video will start and stop without the shaking sometimes caused by pushing a button

Lens Port
A port from Ikelite's Standard or Modular system is required and sold separately. The lens must be less than 3.3" (83mm) to fit into Ikelite ports. It must focus to at least 12" (30 cm) to be used in a dome port, or else a +4 close-up lens must be added
TTL Flash Metering
Supported with optional external Ikelite DS-series strobes--without requiring camera's built-in flash to fire. Strobes connect to housing via optional sync cords. In-line communication between strobe and camera eliminates signal interference and false triggering caused by light ray reflection or other flashes firing. Tweak exposure or take total control while keeping your hand on housing. Two pushbuttons below camera's LCD viewfinder act as remote control for strobes. Access exposure compensation in TTL mode, as well as 7 manual power settings in half-stop increments. Strobe settings indicated by LED lights. Non-Ikelite strobes may also be used, but will provide manual exposure only
Mounting
Includes aluminum tray with rubberized right and left-hand grips for improved handling and attachment of external lighting arms, strobes and video lights via two quick release points. Complete handle assembly can be removed easily for convenient traveling. Take advantage of tripod sockets, as well

Comments about Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or GH4 Digital Camera:

I use this housing for both photography and filming in a tropical climate.

I have only had it fog up slightly once where it had been getting hot on a boat deck then submerged for filming - generally not an issue.

I can adjust everything on the camera easily and infact much faster than without the housing on as the buttons are big, different and easy to manipulate.

I have the 8" dome which gives great split shots.

It is perfectly balanced in the water, easy to frame shots and track moving subjects.

I have used this housing whilst filming for numerous TV shows.

Would certainly buy from Ikelite again.

Comments about Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or GH4 Digital Camera:

I had my hesitations about buying this housing after reading the above review, but I wanted a camera housing which had true TTL which I could use with DS-161 substrobes (the only combo focus light, flashlight, video light, and true TTL strobe on the market right now), a camera housing which could accomodate a wide variety of wide angle and macro lenses, and a camera housing which could accomodate the Panasonic GH-4 camera which is capable of the best (4k) video currently available. So this camera/housing/substrobe is one very powerful system as designed. I have been using Ikelite housings for about fifteen years, and this housing is very representative of other DSLR Ikelite housings, which have many recieved quite nice reviews elsewhere. This particular housing is not some piece of unique substandard Ikelite engineering as one may think after reading the earlier review. Regarding the "poor quality shims" for the lens, they seem to work just fine. Yes they are made from flexible foam rubber with a glue strip on one side, but this seems to me to be a quite inexpensive way to assure a good grip on the lens whatever it's diameter happens to be. And the fact that they are inexpensive seems to me to be an advantage, for if they ever malfunction or start to slip, new strips and extra strips can be ordered from Ikelite for very little cost, and with very easy replacement. But really, to me it seems there is little likelihood of failure, and a very minor and cheaply fixable issue if it ever did happen. Plus, you get the flexibility of using a wide variety of wide angle and macro lenses with this simple manner of adjustability (the foam strips come in different thicknesses depending on the particlar width of the lens you choose to pair it with). These are the same shims that come with other interchangeable lens housings from Ikelite. To me, the housing itself seems very robust, and as mentioned, quite typical of the Ikelite range, which housings have satisfied many underwater photographers just fine over the years. I am really exited I got all the features which were important to me in one package! My first photos and videos do look very nice indeed!

Comments about Ikelite Underwater Housing for Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3 or GH4 Digital Camera:

I've always used very high end underwater housings so perhaps my expectations for a consumer level product are unreasonable. That said, I would expect that even the cheapest system could do better than this. The zoom gear rings are thin and brittle acrylic which WILL crack probably sooner than later. You "custom fit" the zoom gears to your lens with thin strips of sticky back rubber. After only a few days of use the stickiness has worn off, the rubber shims don't stay in place, and I had to resort to stuffing rubber bands between the gears and the lens to make them fit. This is entirely not acceptable and a good example of the lack of thought and effort that went into designing this housing. WAIT until another company comes out with a better GH3 housing. I wish I had.
