Comments about Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens (Black):

I use this on Sony E-Mount cameras, via the VM-E Close Focus adapter. This is a fantastic, well-made, compact lens. It is at least as good as anything Sony makes... better, even, for the fact that it is truly manual-focus, not focus-by-wire, as modern AF lenses tend to be. Manual focus with this lens is more precise than is even possible with focus-by-wire.

This lens is surprisingly sharp wide open at f/1.5, with very little discernible chromatic aberration. Also, the out-of-focus characteristics - bokeh - is very smooth and pleasing.

This is my go-to lens for portraiture.

Both of the sample images attached to this review were produced on a Sony NEX-6 at f/1.5

Comments about Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens (Black):

I'm not techno expert, I just like taking photos and how things feel when using them. That said I was a Canon user for 8 eights professionally. This is the first lens I have bought (along with the Voigtlander close range adapter) for my newly acquired A7S. As soon as I got it out of the box I loved the build and feel. I use it a lot stopped down to f1.5 and love it.

It's a general lens that I will use depending upon what I want to capture. Worked very well with the close range adapter!

Comments about Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens (Black):

This is a nice low light/street-style lens. It is very well made even though it's not up to Leica standards. It's also not far behind. I've had 2 Zeiss lenses and both of them had functional problems. This is my first Voigtlander and I am impressed. I know they come from the same factory, but this feels much better than the Zeiss! The only real problem I have with this lens is the purple fringing in high contrast areas when wide open. It's not often a problem and can be corrected to some degree with software, but I do hate seeing it. I've read the Leica Summilux is similar in this regard, but I don't know first hand. I know this lens has more of it than any of my Leicas, but none of them open up to f1.5 so it's not a fair fight. The best thing about this lens is that it enables me to use a lowish ISO at night and/or in doors. It's really very functional. My copy has a slight front focus wide open that's rectified by leaning in or focusing slightly behind the subject in the rangefinder. Not a huge ordeal, but something to be aware of. I'm able to nail the focus more than miss so it's not too problematic. None of my Leicas are this far out, but at this price…. I'm not complaining. The lens hood is another giant plus! It's build quality may not be up to the best Leica ones, but it's better than the cheap Leica. At this price it's hard to fault this lens.

Comments about Nokton 50mm f/1.5 Aspherical Lens (Silver):

I use this lens adapted for micro four-thirds, so it has a field of view equivalent to 100mm on a full frame camera, so this is a short telephoto, perfect for portraits. The relatively bright f/1.5 maximum aperture is great for subject isolation, low light conditions and background bokeh. This particular version of this lens is chrome-plated brass, so it is a little heavier than the black version, but old-time quality to go along with the old-time styling. Not too bulky, certainly less so than adapted legacy fast 50s with much deeper adapters. While I have a superb native MFT lens with auto focus, having a lens of this quality is what puts the joy into manual focus photography when I have the time to compose the shot. This lens comes with a custom screw-in hood and metal lens cap. Looks great on OM=D E-M5 and Lumix GX7.
