The 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Pentax from Samyang is a manual focus, wide-angle lens compatible with APS-C format DSLR digital cameras. It provides an 83.1° angle of view which translates into a 35mm format equivalency of 24mm. Its fast maximum aperture of f/2.0 is effective in low light shooting and provides shallow depth of field. With two aspherical lens elements and one extra-low dispersion element, chromatic aberrations are minimized and sharp, color-accurate images are the result. UMC lens coating facilitates even light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare.

Comments about Samyang 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Pentax:

I purchased this lens for night landscapes and astrophotography in general.

The first copy received was gladly replaced by B&H after it was discovered that some optical elements were decentered. The copy had uneven vignetting wide open and it had distortion in one frame corner unlike the others. The lens was unusable for good work.

Received the second copy in about a ten days and it was a much better copy, essentially as intended by the manufacturer and as reviewed by ephotozine.

Vignetting of wide angle lenses at full aperture is normal and this lens has moderate light falloff wide open. By f/2.8 it exhibits a flat field and is sharp throughout the frame with the exception of coma in the extreme corners.

There is moderate barrel distortion, but well within what most lenses at this focal length exhibit.

Sharpness is really good at center when wide open. Chromatic aberration is present in high contrast situations wide open, but good as gone stopped down from f/4 and beyond.

This lens gives approximately the same field as a 24mm in 135 format and similar to a 45mm in 6x7 format.

Close focus is easily about three inches. This lens can focus beyond the infinity mark, but true infinity is right on the mark.

I tested for flare and it can be an issue as with many wide-angle lenses.

Test your copy and send it back if you do not like it. B&H will be happy to do so and they paid shipping for the return.

Overall, I'm happy with the lens, especially for the price.
