The natural 6x30 BX-1 Yosemite Binocular from Leupold is a compact optic featuring a Porro prism design and a fully multicoated optical path. Leupold outfitted this binocular with BaK4 prism glass, and its Porro prism configuration displays more depth of field than roof prism designs. The resulting images transmitted by the Yosemite binocular have lifelike depth and are crisp across the field of view.

A nitrogen-filled housing equips the Yosemite binocular for fogproof performance while its rubber armoring and textured ridges deliver a slip-resistant grip. Additionally, the binocular has a broad interpupillary adjustment range—its 50mm minimum interpupillary distance allows the Yosemite binocular to comfortably fit most children. Twist-up eyecups and an 18mm eye relief help to provide a comfortable viewing distance for children and adults alike.

I hunt deer in the eastern woodlands. I am also a cheapskate, a bit elderly and not in the best of shape. For all of these reasons I was looking for the best glass I could afford that weighed the least possible. I have already tried many cheap binoculars and I've borrowed expensive ones occasionally and have learned the difference. These Yosemites are the best I've used and the lightest I've used and cost around $ which is well below what good glass normally costs. All the adjustments are easy and smooth and they work well with glasses (good eye relief). Why did I get 6x30? Because it is brighter than 8x30 which was the other option. I didn't want glass that would be useless for the first and last light of the day and wont show you what is traveling in the darker brush on cloudy days. What I learned after I bought them is that I would choose 6x30 for another reason which that really good glass (OK, look this up if you don't know it already, these lenses are fully multi-coated and have coated BAK4 prisms) will show you everything you need to see with a wider field of view which makes searching for deer in the woods easier. If I was hunting on the prairie or the SW I'd want more power but eastern forests 6 power is great. Also, at my age, I don't want to drag any extra weight into and out of the woods and these are the lightest smallest binoculars available that includes this quality level of performance. I usually hunt muzzle loader even in the modern season and that means I've got the gun, possibles bag (about 10 lbs), a large fanny pack full of stuff (about 10 lbs) that I need (including binoculars) and a climbing stand on my back (about 24 lbs), all after putting on all the winter clothes layers and boots (about 15 lbs) for a total of about 59 pounds on my 68 year old frame. I love their small size and weight. Finally, I have to mention Leupold because I've used their rifle scopes for many years and there is no company that I know of that makes finer products and stands behind them better. I'm used to paying a bit extra for the quality that they produce and I don't understand how these binoculars can be such a bargain but you wont hear me complain about that.

The focus wheel on mine was very hard to turn in one direction. It would bind. These binocs gave me eyestrain immediately. The eyecups would not stay up. The quality of the glass itself was great. I contacted Leupold about them via e-mail and never got a response, so I returned them to B&H. I then ordered the Pentax 8x42 DCF CS binocs from B&H and those have great glass and are very comfortable.I have a very narrow IPD of 53mm so only a few binocs work for me. I tried these Leupolds because they are one of the few binocs that fold down narrow enough. The Pentax is another and the only other reasonably priced glass. The only other two are the 8x32 Leica and Zeiss, both of which cost $.

      Bargain price quality optics

      By George

Comments about Leupold 6x30 BX-1 Yosemite Binocular (Natural):

I bought these because I needed a portable set of binos with decent field of view in the 6x range for upcoming cruise. I also have youngsters in the family that have a hard time keeping my larger powered binoculars steady. This is as small as i will go since i have large hands and find the smaller compacts uncomfortable to use for any extended period of time. I am pleasantly surprised by the optics. They have good fov, are bright, have good eye relief, and a nice sweet spot with gradual image softening in the last 20% of field. Great porro 3d affect and fast (though not smooth) focusing. Very acceptable for binoculars in this price point. You can pick at the cheap case and the not so smooth focuser (I note this with some of my other water proof binos) but you will be hard pressed to do better at this price. Kudos to Leupold and B&H for fast shipping. These are keepers.

Comments about Leupold 6x30 BX-1 Yosemite Binocular (Natural):

If you aren't familiar with Leupold, they are most notably known for their exceptionally high quality rifle scopes. These binoculars follow Leupold's reputation. The image clarity that I see through these binoculars are on par with a $ scope that I have, and far exceeds the clarity of any Nikon image intensification product that I own. I honestly don't have any explanation for how they are able to produce such an amazing product for this price level. There are tons of other reviews across the internet that back up this claim as well. Porro prism designs have been around for a while, but this is the first set that is actually waterproof, and nitrogen filled to prevent internal fogging. The first day that I received mine, I took them outside to see just how right all of the other reviews I read, before making a purchase, were. Being so warm inside my house, and cold outside, there was quite a large temperature differential. To my surprise, there wasn't the least bit of fogging on the lenses. Even if you exhale of them in the same way you would to write on a cold window, the fogging quickly dissipates. The 6x30 magnification is more efficient at flowing light than higher magnifications, due to the ratio of the exit pupil sizes. These binoculars perform exceptionally well in low light conditions. I only hunt coyotes, and these are perfect for scouting out these stealthy predators across large fields at night. These Leupold binoculars are small, clear, and bright enough to be used for literally any occasion. Unless you are looking at binoculars that are 3x-4x the price of these, you should pick this set of binoculars.

Comments about Leupold 6x30 BX-1 Yosemite Binocular (Natural):

I needed a new set of binoculars for bird watching. These had great ratings. They are clear, durable, and compact. I, like others, noted the stiff focus knobs. However, that would only be an issue for my children. B&H had a great price and free shipping. I may get another set for my wife.

These were purchased as "kitchen binoculars" for use around the house to look at birds in the feeder and in the yard. They have a close focus capability and are easy to use for all family members. With their clear view and light weight I will probably also take them into the field. The focus wheel was a little stiff when they were new but it has loosened up.

Comments about Leupold 6x30 BX-1 Yosemite Binocular (Natural):

I know that this is not Leupold's top of the line, but I expected good quality. The left set of optics has some debris on one of the interior lenses and the coating on the inside of the front lens is obviously defective.

Only the center portion of the view is usable. The outer 15 to 20% is so fuzzy that you can't make out any details, so the above quality control problems wouldn't make the binoculars worthwhile.

These glasses live up to my expectations. Optics are good and bright. Better than average low light performance. Light weight and comes with a good neck strap. I have not yet exposed the glasses to extremes of cold or wet. Adjustment for eye width and eye relief are excellent. I can use these glasses with or without my eye glasses. I found the center adjustment very difficult to use as if it needs oil or is binding.
