The black XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens from Fujifilm is an extremely compact (2.41 x 0.91"), lightweight (2.75 oz) prime lens with a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 41mm. It provides a 55.5° angle of view. The lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and is effective in low light situations and able to create a shallow depth of field. The lens stops down to f/16 in 1/3 EV stops.

Fast and precise autofocus is provided by a built-in, high-torque DC coreless motor and its single metal lens ring offers accurate manual focus capability. An aspherical lens element minimizes aberrations for sharp overall imaging and its 7 rounded-blade diaphragm brings with it a pleasing out-of-focus area. Fujinon's HT-EBC lens coating reduces reflections at a wider wavelength and minimizes flares and ghosting. Its minimum focus distance is 13.4"

A particularly compact and lightweight "pancake" lens, it is ideal as an everyday prime lens and fits well with the form factor of the Fujifilm X-series mirrorless cameras.
A built-in high-torque DC coreless motor provides fast and accurate autofocus.
Fujinon's HT-EBC lens coating minimizes flares and ghosting.

Didn't have the budget for the 23mm f1.4 so I "settled" for this lens. I Love it! It shoots photos that are even better than the ones I pixel-peeped on all the various websites. The AF is fast and accurate 9 out of 10 times. It makes my X-E1 ultra-portable. I also own the 35mm f1.4 and the 27mm is just a step behind in sharpness. The lack of Image Stabilization is a non-factor as the Fuji cameras can creep up high into the ISO scales and still produce excellent photos. Overall it is a steal at the $[$] price and will simply cause you to carry your camera with you more often.

I had high hopes for this 27mm lens after using the Fuji 18-55. The raw images from the 18-55 were excellent & needed very little adjustment but the lens was too big to make my X-E1 an everyday carry camera.

The size of the 27mm was just what I was looking for. I could carry my X-E1 in a jacket pocket and take it with me everywhere.

Too bad I was disappointed with the images from the 27mm lens under all conditions. I tried it for a week and without fail the images could not match those of the Fuji 18-55 for colour, contrast, vividness or sharpness. I expect to finesse a raw image in Lightroom but no matter what I did I just couldn't make the shots from the 27mm look decent. There was always that tried-to-salvage look to them.

    I returned the lens.

Pairs well with my X-T1. Operation and picture quality could not be better. For years I have been full 35mm frame film and digital (also medium format) shooter, and wanted something also quality and lighter-for me this is it. I am impressed with FUJI! Very happy.

Great lens at a great price

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

Put this lens on my xt1... Super compact size and lighter than a feather ... Ideal for walking around town... Makes the system less noticeable... OK focus speed in dim light... Does not miss a beat in bright light... Color renders ok ...Maybe a better for black and white than coloe... I do miss the aperture ring of the other fuji lenses, however, for the price, I won't complain...

          Perfect lens for travel

          By Ken C

          from San Francisco

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Black):

The small size of this lens when mounted on an xe1 makes for a perfect travel camera. It's all I need. Suitable for shooting in an urban environment with quick focusing and good image quality. Before I got this lens, I found I mostly used the kit zoom at the widest focal length anyway, and the 2.8 aperture allowed for reasonable bokeh when shooting portraits.

I also love how it looks on the camera. Allowing for me to take pictures without drawing attention to my camera while maintaining the retro style.

Only thing I miss is an aperture ring. Having to dial it in on the camera took a little getting used to.

Super small and light-weight. Ridiculously fast focusing. Very, very sharp.

I find the focal length to be even more useful than I thought it would be--just a bit on the wide side of 'normal.' I'm using it more than I thought I would.

I don't care for the tiny lens cap, but that's about it.

I agree that the regular price is not appropriate for this lens, as for that same money (even less), you can buy a compact camera that will give you the same IQ and with much more fun and versatility. Half of that price would be just OK.
It's by far the weakest among the XF series.

Another excellent Fuji prime Fast and crisp images.

It is a true pancake and as such doesn't have an aperture dial (not a problem just use the command wheel) but it also makes your camera near invisible.

Turns out I'm not a fan of the focal length but that's just me and certainly nothing that impacts the lens.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Silver):

I picked up the 27mm to be a nearly pocket sized street photo lens. There is nothing wrong with the lens. It takes good daylight pictures. The problem is the other lens I have for this camera, the "Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Zoom Lens" is better in nearly every way.

The 27mm is slightly sharper, and has a slightly larger aperature. However the lack of image stabilization means that the 18-55mm performs better in basically all hand-held situations except full sun. If you plan to use a tripod, why have a compact lens?

The auto focus is fairly slow at one-half to one second.

Don't get me wrong. It is a good lens. It is compact. If you have the cheaper kit lens this may be a good buy. I just can't justify it compared to the other lens I have.

Great value, especially with the recent Fuji discount. I use this on my XT-1 for walk-around shooting, and it's a fantastic light-weight combination. It's not quite as small as a x100S, but pretty close. Imagine quality is great, although I wish it was just a bit wider than 27mm.

I am really pleased to have bought this lens. It is small and pancake and make it the ideal companion of a Fuji X-T1. The equivalent field of view of 41mm make it really natural for street photography where you will enjoy its compactness

Many of the reviews I read prior to purchasing this praised it for its sharpness and compactness. It focuses quickly and quietly on the X-E2 and makes this camera as compact as possible. While I would have liked it to be a faster (maybe f/2) lens the overall size makes up for it. While I have and always use hoods for now I am not going to worry about getting one for this lens. The lack of an aperture ring is not a problem, if you have used a DSLR then you are familiar with the command dial aperture control. Although I do like having the ring on the other Fuji X lenses that I own.

While I've not done back flips about Fuji's 18-55mm zoom that's part of the X-E2 kit, the XF 27mm prime lens is sharp as a razor. Good all-purpose lens for the camera. I prefer it was my primary lens for the camera.

This is a dandy little lens, sharp and contrasty--and, best of all, small. I'd like it perhaps a trifle wider, but the focal length is a good compromise for a lens ideally suited to everyday, walk-around use. And I like using the control wheel on my X Pro 1 to control the aperture--the wheel just falls naturally beneath my thumb. The wee size of this lens makes it easier for me to carry my camera all the time, with I like to do. While I own three other X-mount lenses, this one will be on my camera much of the time, especially when I'm traveling.

Comments about XF 27mm f/2.8 Lens (Silver):

This is my seventh Fuji X series lens, and looking at the others that I own and shoot every day, it seems an improbable addition. After all, I have the 23/1.4 and the 35/1.4, so I seem to have the 27mm focal length covered, and if I need that exact framing I can pull out the 18-55 zoom. So why buy this lens?

Because it make my spare XE1 body just about pocketable - certainly it now fits in a jacket pocket, or in a tiny waist pack, or in my smallest shoulder bag with an iPad and a spare battery. So I always have a good camera with me, one that can make excellent pictures under widely varying conditions, much better than any point and shoot or my phone.

Because the image quality is simply outstanding, sharp and contrasty, and it focuses quickly and accurately even on first-generation bodies.

Because the 40mm-equivalent focal length is one of my favorites -- wide enough to capture the scene without being so wide as to cause any distortion, It's the perfect lens for street photography, candid portraits, travel, and more.

I've been waiting for this lens since I retired my Panasonic micro 4/3 system and its excellent 20mm pancake lens. This is the perfect replacement -- small, light, with excellent image quality and plenty of speed.
