Looking to buy a 13" ultrabook with highest specs now. Come down to the following choices.

Sony Vaio Pro: Outstanding look. Lightest 13" laptop, beats Mac Book Air. The concern is the bad reviews from buyers. The majority complain are WiFi or overheat. Overheating is especially a concern to me because I had a VAIO laptop a few years ago and know an imperfectly designed internal will lead to overheat and as a result, system instability. That experience sort of keeps me away Sony. I wanted to give Sony a chance given the nice look of Vaio Pro 13. But once I learned that overheating is one of the issues buyers reported, I stop considering it.

Asus Zenbook: Until Zenbook Infinity comes out, still maximum of 4GB memory only and no Haswell CPU. Spending money to buy a 'to be phased out soon' model does not sound like a wise decision. There are some risks if decide to wait for Infinity, too. First, it's a major redesign from zenbook, so stability could be a concern. Also, the resolution higher than 1920 does not appeal to me. Also, the rumor is that it will cost much more than regular Zenbook, probably due to the ultra high resolution.

Dell XPS 13: It is actually very well designed and I might have chosen it if not that Acer S7 is slightly lighter and I already had a XPS from another source. More on comparison to S7 below.

Samsung (series 9) ATIV Book 9: Similar problem to Zenbook Infinity. ATIV Book 9 Plus will have Haswell, 8GB memory, and resolution higher than 1920. But properly costs much higher and no release date yet.

Lenovo Yoga: heavy, no Haswell, 4GB memory only. Basically not in the same league as above.

Before buying Acer S7 I have a few concerns, mainly the occasionally bad reviews on trackpad and keyboard. Another is that myself found that the sharp edges of the lid might be a problem. I found none of them an issue after using S7 for a few weeks. Sharp edge is not bothering in everyday usage. The keyboard and trackpad, I would say they are just normal for a laptop. So I really couldn't explain what the bad reviews on keyboard and trackpad are about. I have a XPS 13, I compared them side-by-side. XPS 13 supposed has much better keyboard and trackpad according to the reviews in general. But myself couldn't tell which one is better or worse. So maybe some people are more sensitive to touch. General users like me probably couldn't tell any difference.

I have been studying Acer S7 since its first generation. All the problem from early generation like wifi, short battery life, trackpad, fan noise, etc, have been fixed. This generation really is a perfect laptop to have.

      Pro:
      * Very beautiful. And I am liking it more and more every day. White is not my color but somehow Acer S7 just looks gorgeous and cute to me. Every time I touch S7, I look forward to the delightful experience. As a comparison, every time I need to use XPS, it just feel like a routine.
      * Quiet and cool: from my technical expertise, I know this is very important for longevity of a PC.
      * One of the most powerful specs including CPU, memory, and SSD you can get today for a laptop.
      * Power adapter is designed very well and with matching white color.
      * Comes with cover bag.
      * Not the lightest 13" laptop (Sony Vaio Pro takes the throne), but I believe it is second overall. Yes, that means it beat everyone else: ASUS, Samsung, Dell, and Mac Book Air in the 13" laptop class.
      * The touch screen is very good. I have a iPad 3 and think Acer S7's touch screen is on par with iPad, which is very good. Touch screen actually is what I prevent to buy because of their generally higher cost and no real usage in a laptop setup. But I am SO happy to buy S7 that happens to have a touch screen. It is actually very useful. Actually now I recommend people to buy a ultrabook with touch screen as a must have.
      * 2 years warranty while most has only one year.
      * The keyboard backlight feature is a delight to use. For comparison, XPS 13's light is too bright for my taste.

      Cons:
      * Power button placement could be better. But I learned how not to touch it by accident, so it does not bother me.
      * (not really a con) Only two USB ports but I had not heard of any 13" ultrabook has more than two. So it's not really a cons for Acer S7, but something you have to compromise for getting 13". I use a small USB hub to have more ports.

Given that the cons are inconsequential, I must say that this laptop is THE perfect laptop in 13" class.

Good looking design with scratch proof gorilla glass top. Light weight and sharp screen. There is one very bad feature. The SD cannot insert all the way into the computer. I travel with the laptop frequently, I have to remove the SD before I can insert the laptop into the sleeve. Now I have to buy another laptop replacement because of the inconvenience caused by the SD. Although the laptop is less than 1 year old, the SD contacts are intermittent.

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

Got this from BH about a week ago to run Dragon Premium 13, Office 13 and graphics software. First, bummed by no Ethernet port onboard, then found adapters online. Secondly, this puppy is light - which is what I wanted. Thirdly - it really runs cool. Fourth - I keep my machine in 'sleep' mode most of the time. So, all I do is open the cover and it is on. Sweet. It is fast and, why doesn't anyone talk about the onboard microphones. They are amazing. I do not need my headset for speech recognition software and I don't have to be in front of the computer for it to transcribe. Fifth point - the headset audio has some real volume to it. Hallelujah. Sixth point - the screen resolution is beautiful. I agree that getting used to this keyboard is one thing, especially no 'delete' key, and that the keyboard backlighting is too low, but my prior laptops (all of them) had no backlighting. Neither does my iMac. I actually like Windows 7. Windows 8...well sorta bites for productivity. Finding things takes some times and when an app I didn't want to load does, it takes up the full screen. I'm glad this touch screen works. Would I recommend it? Most definitely. This machine is quite a value. I found it via a review here, as I was going to get the ATIV with 3800 resolution but just couldn't stomach paying so much more JUST for the added resolution, as this had the same spec, running i7 with same ram and storage. The RAID 0 array for this SSD is just sweet. I purchased the DVD you recommended and hopefully it will work to load software, play movies and rip audio. If not...that would cause a downgrade. But, I still have my Win 7 and XP machines for that.Thank you for bringing such an affordable machine to my attention. For added storage, I'll use the TB portable hard drive I now keep around.

On 31/12/2013, I ordered this Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White) by Acer from this website, with a reference number 1027604848. However the computer refused to work 18 days ago. I couldn't start the Windows and I was staring at a black screen. It is now for reparation at the ACER service in the Netherlands, they say they need to replace the microphone, the keyboard, etc and I am still waiting for another part that needs to be brought from USA. It's terrible to invest so much money at then after 6 months not to be able to use the computer. It's very probable that I lost all my information as well.

I've been using my new laptop for about 2 weeks now. In general it works well, but I'll note a couple of specific issues:1) I'm not a big fan of the keyboard. When I tested it in the store it seemed OK, but the flat keys just aren't conducive to accurate touch-typing. It's a shame that virtually every laptop maker has gone with flat chiclet-style keys -- in my opinion, a victory of form over function. Also, Acer decided to eliminate the dedicated function and Home (combined with Page Up) and End (combined with Page Down) keys, which means I sometimes have to struggle to figure out how to execute some key combinations I've been using for a long time.2) I didn't have wifi problems on the first few networks I used, but at a friend's house I was totally unable to get online despite being connected to their network. The solution was to install the latest version of the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 8, available

Much better than any laptop I purchased from "name" companies. Best ordering experience every and great price from B&H.

I needed a laptop for portable work (word processing etc.) as well as photo editing. Flawless with the former, have not tried the latter yet.

TL;DR - lightweight, fantastic battery and insanely fast = great ultra-book.

The SSDs make the computer insanely fast to boot up and shut down. Absolutely ridiculously fast.

Because the screen is touch-enabled, it is shiny like your cell phone. This is not great when there is a window nearby (reflects everything!) I doubt I will use the touch feature often, but it's interesting to have the option.

Keyboard is not perfect - sometimes misses a letter here or there. Slightly funny layout, but no major complaint about it.

The design is interesting - extremely light and thin. Don't really care for the white top color, but it looks sleek and cool anyways.

Having been in the IT industry fron well before PC's were around, I have had the use of a great many devices from IBM 3270 terminals in the late 70's now to this latest ACER Notebook. I have to say that this device is the first where I dont have to sit around waiting for it. For example it restarts windows 8.1 in about 15 seconds!! and you know how often you have to restart...

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

I needed a travel-friendly, powerful laptop that I can use in the courtroom. It was between this and the VAIO Pro, which was slightly lighter in weight but had a disturbingly pronounced flex when typing due to its carbon-fiber construction. The Acer is solid, very light, with a breathtakingly sharp screen. I just took it on a trip to South Korea and it was never a weight or logistical burden.

The only downside, that keeps me from giving it five stars, is that it has Bluetooth connectivity problems in Windows 8.1. I've perused the forums and no one seems to have a reliable, repeatable fix. I have a great BT mouse that I'm never sure will be recognized by the laptop. Kind of aggravating.

That said, would I warn anyone away from this laptop? No. It's a joy to use, fits neatly in my bag, is extremely light, and very physically durable. Also, the battery life is EXCELLENT.

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

This is a great product and I'm glad I purchased. My dad got an ASUS Zenbook, but it was more expensive with less features and he also mentioned that ASUS customer service was a nightmare when trying to resolve an issue he had. The ultrabook looks and feels solid. Came with Windows 8.0, so I upgraded for free to 8.1 via the Microsoft Ap Store shortly after getting it. It comes in a nice tan case as a plus.

                          Pros:
                          -Solid and sturdy
                          -Looks clean and professional.
-Great price for what you get.
                          -Fast with no issues.

                          Cons:
-Limited color options. I would have picked something different than white if I could have.
-The space button feels a little loose, but not a major concern.

Only had it a couple weeks, but love it so far. Windows 8 takes a little getting used to, but having the touch screen is awesome. Easily upgraded to 8.1with no problems. So fast and quiet. Only thing that is a little annoying is the back lit keyboard times out quickly, takes too long to come back on when you start typing and has no way to just turn it on all the time.

I really wanted a MacBook Air but all my data is backed up from a previous Windows XP notebook and didn't want to have to go to the hassle of a complete conversion. Not crazy about Windows 8 but this is a good mix of lightweight thin ultrabook, speed, etc with decent battery life. Unfortunately shortly after I received it I attempted to update to 8.1 which screwed a few things up, tried to restore to factory defaults but then couldn't complete update, so had to ship back to factory for reinstall, took a couple of weeks. So haven't had machine but for a few days. Tech support less than optimal, obviously outsourced to another country, this southerner had a difficult time understanding, but they were as helpful as they could be, I suppose. 4 stars is an optimistic hope/expectation? Battery life not as long as I hoped and had expected from reviews. Keyboard is backlit but the lighting disappears too soon between keystrokes requiring more keystrokes to retrieve light and keys are difficult to read without backlighting, even in daylight. Touchscreen is decent and mandatory for Windows 8.

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

As a traveling consultant, I spent many years carrying around laptops that felt like a boat anchor. My poor back couldn't take it any more, so I set out looking for an ultraportable. Something lightweight yet powerful, small but mighty. I definitely found it with the Acer Aspire S7-392-9890. First, it's a beauty. It's super thin with a Gorilla glass lid. The Acer logo glows from the lid when the lighting is dim enough to turn on the auto backlighting. It's so light you can easily hold it up between your thumb and a couple of fingers on one hand. The lid is sturdy, and the hinge is strong so there's no screen wobble once it's up, but the laptop can still be opened with one hand since the bottom is heavier than the lid. You can also lie the lid flat against a tabletop and reverse the view so you can share the screen with someone across from you while maintaining control of the keyboard and track pad (great for one-on-one presentations or training).I'm actually finding the track pad and keyboard the best I've had in many years. I've had difficulty with track pads in the past so I always carry a mouse with me, but this is one I can use. It's very responsive, and in combination with the touch-screen, I don't think I'll ever need to pack an extra mouse again. The speed is fantastic (especially with the Haswell chip and SSD). A cold bootup takes about 10 or 15 seconds, but because it goes into sleep mode when you shut the lid and automatically wakes when you open it back up, I'm not even finding the need to shut it down cold at all. It's ready as soon as I open the lid. I haven't timed it, but the battery lasts and lasts (between intermittent use and taking advantage of the sleep mode, I've had it going a full week on one charge. The display is clear and bright and the sound is ok from the external speakers, but I plugged in my B&O headphones, adjusted the dolby settings and the private sound is brilliant and crisp. I've not heard the internal fan kick on whatsoever. It comes with a leather sleeve (it looks and smells like real leather but could be a good leatherette as far as I know) but does not come with dongles for wired Ethernet or VGA projection displays. That, and some preloaded bloat-ware, are my only complaints. The Acer site is out of stock on the combo dongle I wanted, so I've had to buy 3rd party dongles through [*]. There are way too many hotels with shoddy wireless where the wired Ethernet connection will save me.All is all, the Acer is a beautiful and powerful tool. It's expensive, but I'm hoping that what I save in chiropractic work and shoulder massages will earn back some of that cash.

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

After checking out Lenovo, Apple, Dell I decided to purchase ACER S7 13.3 inch screen with Intel core i7 (7th gen), 8G memory and 256G SSD. This ultrabook performs very well and most importantly unlike other brands it doesn't get hot at all regardless how long you use it. It is not cheap, but if you are looking for an ultrabook with strong performance, touch screen, thinner than MacBook than this would be a good choice at the time of this review.

I ordered this product for overnight delivery and it was delivered on time!

The machine itself is gorgeous - the gorilla glass makes what seems like a delicate machine strong and durable.

I did not expect to care about the touch screen feature - but once I started playing around with it I really started to like it.

I wanted a laptop to travel with that was powerful and lightweight to use in conjunction with my video camera. This one is powerful enough to edit/render videos using Adobe Premiere Elements 12 plus it's lightweight enough to easily carry. The battery life has been amazing for routine use such as web surfing or basic video editing. It lacks a large amount of storage space but that is easily solved with a small-size 1 terabyte USB 3 storage device. The USB 3.0 jack also accepts USB 2.0 devices. I like the touchscreen or touchpad combination with the ability to use either one or both to make selections. So far, after 3 weeks, it's been a great little machine. Unlike some others, I have had no issues with typing or using the keyboard or touchpad. The lighted (at night)keys are not ideal to read from certain angles but for normal use they're fine.

Comments about Acer Aspire S7-392-9890 Multi-Touch 13.3" Ultrabook Computer (Crystal White):

                                * Comes with cover bag.
