I was surprised to find this computer. I did not think I would be able to find one with the performance I desired at the price I could afford. Thankfully, this showed up.

The AMD Quad-Core A10 processor with a 2GB GPU is more than enough to power through your day-to-day tasks, and if you choose to game or render things in 3D, this should to the trick. The RAM is expandable to 8 GB (it comes with 6) so that is another option if you want more performance.

I have a few small nags about this product. One, its optical drive seems flimsy when it pops out, but if one is careful that should be no problem. Second, the touchpad is incredibly sensitive (and thus a pain when navigating Windows 8). I didn't find a way to turn down the sensitivity, but a cheap mouse will make things work. Third, Windows 8 does not come with a software to watch DVDs. However, there are third-party softwares you can choose from to watch them, but I suppose Microsoft expects people to be streaming their movies instead of watching them from a disc. The battery life is short. Lastly, the speakers could be better (but perhaps I am too picky; after all, this is a laptop, not a desktop with speakers).

All in all, it has incredible performance, and I am glad I purchased it.

This laptop has a nice exterior and looks very nice on the outside. I got a bad unit and have extremely bad lag on windows 8. Opening programs and running programs such as file explorer, steam, and google chrome is very bad. It takes around 20 seconds to open a program after clicking its icon. My entry level windows 7 laptop did far better than this. Programs such as these often freeze and crash for no apparent reason. Occasionally windows will freeze and recover itself after about 45 seconds. This performance is completely unacceptable. It frustrates me how slow basic tasks run. I believe that normally this is a great laptop but the one that i specifically got has some serious problems. Games get extreme lag spikes which is quite frustrating.

Comments about Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6" Notebook Computer (Midnight Black):

So I have been looking for a laptop for a long time that combined fast multi-tasking, browsing, and general school/work tasks plus gaming for a good price point. In the Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 you get that! Not only does this sport the latest in AMD APU technology, but it has a dual graphics mode which allows you to combine the onboard APU graphics with a discreet 7670G GPU to double your performance! Not many laptops can sport this and stay at this low pricepoint but this laptop does. I have played everything from Left 4 Dead 2 to Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 and all play on high with 45-60 FPS. I recommend this for anyone who wants a desktop replacement at a low pricepoint!

I use the laptop for school, photoshop, and also for gaming. Everything runs smoothly and it is very fast. Its a perfect laptop for me. Really, there are no other laptops with this graphic specs at this price. The only bad thing is the screen. It could have been better, and much better if it was touch.

Comments about Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6" Notebook Computer (Midnight Black):

This is not a perfect computer. However, I got it on sale and it was a steal. I'm not the most computer-literate person, but I know enough, and have used this computer enough to know my opinions on it.

The keyboard types well. I don't feel like the keys are too loud, but they're not too 'soft.' Having a number pad is great. This laptop replaced a Macbook Pro I got as as a hand-me-down, whose hard drive died, and I prefer the keyboard on this computer to my old one. I do miss the backlighting, though. I'm willing to overlook it for the price.

The screen is nice and bright indoors, and it's very easy to adjust the brightness. However, I've taken my computer outdoors before to enjoy the weather, and it's very hard to see. So no happy computing out in the sunshine.

Windows 8 frustrated me very much at first, but I'm getting used to it pretty quickly. I don't think it's enough to turn someone off of a computer.

The touchpad is in an annoying position. I get why it's there, but I sometimes accidentally press things with it while I'm typing. That can get annoying. However, if you just get a mouse, you can turn the touchpad off (and this is easy to do--it's just Fn+F7).

My foremost complaint is the sound quality. Suffice to say, the speakers aren't great. And, when I plug in my earbuds, I end up having to turn the volume down almost to zero. I'm not sure why this is, it could just be my cheap earbuds. Also, something else to note: the microphone doesn't seem great. I've tried to record things, since I'm a singer, and they've turned out barely audible when I KNOW I was singing plenty loud.

As far as performance goes, I currently have almost thirty tabs open in Chrome, and it doesn't seem to have slowed the computer down at all. I haven't tried playing any demanding games yet, though in theory it has enough processing power to run things like Dota 2.

Last point: this computer was bigger than I expected. It's not particularly light, which does affect its portability. It's not hard to carry in my backpack, though I do worry about it getting damaged. My poor old dead Macbook was much easier to carry around campus.

I gave this computer 5 stars because, in the end, it is far more than I had thought I could get on my tight budget. The issues I have with it are minor compared to the hardware you get. And to those complaining about the speed of the hard drive...I'm told that the bigger hard drive you have, the slower it can be without affecting performance. With a HDD of 750GB, 5400 RPM is plenty.

Comments about Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6" Notebook Computer (Midnight Black):

I wanted a new laptop that would be an all-around performer used for pretty much everything. This machine works for all intended purposes.

The screen is nice, though it's possible for people with expectations too high to knock it. When looking at a dark screen (games, pictures, etc.) it does have a limited viewing angle.

The keyboard works well enough. It's full sized, with numpad, and responds relatively well. It's obviously not a desktop keyboard, so I didn't expect it to perform like one.

The touchpad is decent. I've seen other reviews complaining about its placement, but what they fail to realize is that it's placed centered to the alphanumeric keys, not to all the keys (numpad included) together. If you know how to type properly, and don't try to rest your hands on the keypad, it's not a problem. Plus, if you have an external mouse, the keypad can be deactivated with a function key.

I haven't had a chance to game with it too much, but I've run Diablo III and Skyrim, with mods, and it ran fine in the 40-60 fps range. The dual graphics can be deactivated if needed with current AMD Catalyst drivers and control center.

Some people don't like Windows 8, but that's not a reason to dislike the machine. I teach computer classes, and know how to use Win 8 quite well. It's neither a pro nor a con to the laptop.

So first off I need to explain that the only reason I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 is completely regarding build quality. It's not exactly a tough book..lolFor the price, the complaints end there. (I don't have kids or pets so the only person who would be likely to smash it would be my wife..) So I do a LOT of different things with my laptop and this handles EVERYTHING for my needs. Sony Vegas, ableton live, after effects, flash pro, 3ds max, and every game I've put on it with high (not ultra but it sure tries. .) settings. (haven't even upped the ram yet!) The bottom line is that you can get an amazing indie filmmakers lappy for 500 bux and still totally game on it. No FireWire port so I didn't exactly die and go to heaven, but hey, it's a far cry from hell either. I see a lot of people knocking this machine for different reasons and should probably address a few that freaked me out at first but turned out to be not such a horrible thing:1.) windows 8 - people..windows 8 is really not that bad. (Or different..) its actually pretty darned good once you get everything customized to fit your needs. It has only minor issues that I have noticed and I would trade my old OS problems for these ones any day. 2. The keyboard - really I couldn't find a problem here. Many say that it's sticky and the keys are too far apart. I don't get it, they work good for me. :/3. The track pad - ...umm..yeah, get a mouse. All in all if you like to make stuff like movies, music, 3d animations, etc.. And still wanna rock a quality game or two, this is your baby. ;)

Comments about Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6" Notebook Computer (Midnight Black):

I'm a student and I needed a laptop that wouldn't break the bank. That being said, I also wanted a laptop that could run a few games from Steam, so I could take a break and play games when I'm not doing work. This laptop can do that pretty well. It's not going to play the Witcher, but this can handle Skyrim, GTA IV, and Battlefield 3, to name a few. I can also comfortably run my dj software on here. My gripes are that it's a bit bulky when I have to take it to school. Also, the battery life isn't great considering some laptops nowadays can last a whole day--this can't. But then again this is a minor gaming laptop, so it's understandable. Keys are very comfortable, included number pad is great, but the touchpad is a bit over-sensitive. When you turn down the sensitivity, it seems to go to the other extreme, and you have to kind of give it a pretty audible tap to select something. It's quiet, and only really heats up during more intensive gaming (you can always use a cooling fan too!). Last unfortunate thing: it can be a fingerprint magnet, but that's nothing a microfiber cloth can't take care of. And a reminder, it is windows 8! I'm still getting used to it, but it will be a big change for those who are still used to the older OS's. Acer puts a fair amount of bloatware on it as well, but you can easily remedy that by removing them in the control panel. Bottom-line: best laptop at this price, and one of the best laptops until you start looking at stuff in the $[$]+ range.

For $[$] you're not going to find a better laptop. The stock performance is more than enough for daily usage. The laptop is also quite capable for playing games (Skyrim on high quality, even the new Payday 2 runs on low quality). Much better than I expected for the money spent.

Windows 8 is of course a drag, but at its price point and with a 2GB Graphics card this machine would get 5 stars from me --- if it weren't for one rather annoying shortcoming: its unresponsive jerky touchpad. The touch-centric Windows 8 environment is a challenge for touchpads, and this one isn't up to it. It can barely be called functional.

Comments about Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6" Notebook Computer (Midnight Black):
