    The BreakDown
    1. Dont be afraid the crop is not as bad as they say. Used canon 17-40 worked fine.
    2. The image is insane forget that Mark III Raw hype.
    3. Who needs Raw when the Prores Dynamic Range is all you need. Its just as good as the c500 range. I blew highights out on purpose and brought them back easily with Resolve.
    4. They complained about the low light but honestly its perfectly fine with the dynamic range its like shooting 3200iso on MarkIII
    5. Yes it has a fan and it helps keep this baby from overheating.
    6. Everyone complaine about the LCD but I was out in the Texas sun & it worked fine and if you expose with your meter like your supposed to then just hit record the dynamic rabge will cover you in post.
    7. The Rolling shutter is not great but nothing you cant fix in post. Just use a rig.
    8. Get a battery pack
    9. The depth of filed is perfect yes its so much like film even at 5.6 and 8 the DOF is just right dont listen to the gripes.
    10. Prores 10bit is all you need FYI the Samsung 840 Pro's work great for Raw and Prores no dropped frames.

We still haven't received an update for the black hole issue and there are no audio meters. The specs are advertised as having professional quality audio, but this is not the case. There is even a problem with low frequencies falling off too early. If you buy this camera, just know there are some issues that haven't been resolved in over a year. Do your research.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I like this camera. I like this camera a great deal. Before I bought it I did a lot of research and I was aware of what everyone thought were the flaws. First as several people have pointed out this is a modular camera even though it's priced below several DSLR's and for this camera to reach its potential you will need to add things like a external battery, a rail system and a after-market hood for starters. A cage of some sort is also important but B&H sent a Bescor cage with the camera which was a welcome freebee. There is one add-on that is critical in my opinion; the Metabones Speedbooster in MFT mount. The Speedbooster makes the BMCC a very different camera. It changes the crop factor to 1.53 and adds a 1.3 stops to your lens. So now the high crop factor, which was my main objection about the camera, is gone! You should just consider this as part of the camera and order it at the same time you order the BMCC. It also allowed me to use all the Nikkor glass I have accumulated over 40 years and that was a huge savings.
One of the things I like best about this camera is its simplicity. The camera doesn't have layer upon layer of menus to sort through. Those of us that started shooting with Arri BL's and Bolex's will find the BMCC more like these film cameras. That is a plus for me.
I don't know if I would consider this camera a run and gun camera. I have a Panasonic HPX 250 and after all the modular stuff is on the BMCC it is actually a bit larger and heavier than the 250 but I bought the BMCC for the 2.5K and 13 stops of Dynamic range not for a run and gun camera. It can be rigged for run and gun but this is really a production camera, I think.
Shooting in bright sun will be a problem unless you have an external hood and even then it can be a problem seeing the screen. In all fairness bright sun renders any viewfinder screen all but useless. My 250 needs some sort of hood for the flip out screen as well. I solved this issue on the BMCC with a Hoodman HBM1. But even with the Hoodman in really bright, direct sun at my back I had to add a cloth hood like I used on the old 4X5 film cameras. I made this "hoodie" into a tube and added Velcro to hold it on the camera's hood. It's a bit awkward but allows me to do critical focus and clearly see the screen.
A lot of criticism has been directed at the audio of this camera. If you plan on using the onboard mike and audio I wouldn't get this camera but does anybody use onboard mikes and audio for serious work? I use wireless with the camera and the 250 also. I don't really understand the audio issues people have with this camera because wireless systems make the issues they mention mute points. This is a modular production camera.
Also plan on color grading all the video in post. If 2.5K isn't important and you don't plan on doing a lot of post production or don't want to do a lot of post production then there maybe better cameras for you. However the camera does come with Divince Resolve, which is another whole story.
So to get the most from this camera you'll need to treat it like the modular camera it is and for sure add the Speedbooster. For the small production house or the large production house for that matter this is a great camera. It allows a level of production that my HPX 250 (as great as that camera is) does not allow. I highly recommend this camera.

      Wonderful camera--sleek design, easily transportable
We purchased this camera after buying lenses which require an active mount. We quickly realized that the BMCC had a passive mount and decided to return the camera and purchase the Black Magic Pocket camera to take advantage of the active mount technology. Will there be an active mount BMCC in the future?

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

Very solid build, it's actually heavy and in no way easy to use hand held. At the least, you need a sturdy tripod, and at best, a full blow rig. Crop factor is real. My Nikon 28 is like using a 70mm in 35 mil terms. Very easy to use, menu is simple and direct. Bright sunlight makes seeing the display difficult. That's the bad. The good is the image and it's very good. Resolve 9 came with my camera and it loaded fine. I quickly upgraded to 10, for free, and it loads fine. RAW is unreal in it's quality, but also unreal in it's size and storage needs. ProRes and DNxHD look perfectly fine, great in fact, on my 21" monitor. I can import both directly into my NLE, but I find doing the color correct in Resolve much better. Overall, I am extremely pleased. I had a good idea of what I was getting and the images override any concerns I have. Internal microphone is way better than I expected. That was a pleasant surprise.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

This camera isn't perfect by far, and everyone has stated almost every flaw so I won't get into things like the rolling shutter.

For what it is, and the new 2K price tag, it is still a force to be reckoned with.

The two hardest things to get around for me would be the file size for RAW (started with a 128GB drive and that's only around 15 minutes of recording time.) which of course is nothing to complain about... I mean it's RAW. Of course it's gonna be huge! and the fact that you do have to invest in more than just the camera if you want a real cinema camera. External batteries, monitor ect. So it can be pricey unless you already have a rig.

Bottom line! The image I am getting from this camera, and being able to use almost any lens I want to from the MFT passive mount makes this a camera I will hold on to, even after I've upgraded.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I've wanted a camera for the past 6 months to shoot documentaries and etc. on. I've compared the Fs100, Canon C100 and Black Magic. I chose Black Magic for the price point and I'm glad I did. With the MFT mount I can use all of my old man's vintage lenses as well as my own collection with just a few adapters. The footage looks great straight out the box and the DR is nice to have as well. Keep in mind, I haven't even shot RAW yet! Only thing that stops this camera from being great is no solid on-camera audio and the rolling shutter. You'll spend money on SSDs and accessories but I don't mind for the quality image I get. P.S. I would highly recommend buying manual lenses because changing the F-Stop is not a in-camera feature.

Beautiful latitude. Comparable to the Alexa. Use it as an additional camera on network television shows. Rolling shutter is an issue. External power supply is a must. MFT allows you to mount to almost anything. I use a set of zeiss superspeeds with mine and the wooden camera pl adapter. I would suggest getting a monitor with histogram or meter. Also be sure to test the camera thoroughly. The first camera I received had a defective sensor. Once you get this camera rigged. It's a ton of fun. Rolling shutter is my biggest complaint.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

Blackmagic wanted to hit an out-of-the-park homer, but managed a good solid double. Price and professional specs are the huge pluses of this camera, though many, myself included have had a wide variety of problems. I personally had the banding noise in low-exposure images and the camera would turn on by itself (although predictable and thus, avoidable). My camera is currently back at Blackmagic getting fixed. But having worked with the camera for 2 weeks before it went back, the images are stunning and the MFT mount is extremely versatile. I paired it with some vintage Zeiss primes (zebras) and was thrilled with the image. If you're a patient person, jump on the wagon and deal with the work-arounds. Otherwise wait a little more, but keep your eye on Blackmagic, they are a huge player in this market.

I am an independent filmmaker who recently upgraded my primary camera from a Canon t2i (550d). Despite the new set of issues (small sensor, reflective screen, SSDs) I have been more than satisfied with the corresponding increase in image quality that came with the upgrade. My biggest concern was if I could have shallow DOF, but it is easily achieved with my 16-35mm f2.8.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I will be using this camera for feature film productions. Purchased with a Metabones Speed Booster for Nikkor lenses, initial testing has been impressive all the way up to the 953mm f/4. Like all Blackmagic products, initial use has proven impressive, but there is a caveat -- will it take the punishment of feature production? I have owned several Blackmagic video cards, and they all quit functioning after a certain amount of time. I hope this camera proves otherwise.

This is a young camera, missing a great deal of things which will slowly become available through firmware updates. The things which are missing, like robust color temperature adjustment past the basic tungsten and daylight settings and lack of a "remaining footage" display, lead users to believe the camera was developed outside of the production community. Ten minutes with a digital savvy D.P. would have created a much different camera.

All that said, this camera peforms exceptionally beyond its price point and fully replaces a basic film camera.

On the Blackmagic Forums, some of us continue to harp on how to make the camera unbeatable, and we expect it to become so over time.

The view screen is annoyingly semi-functional in broad daylight, but old view camera shade cloths now have a new purpose, as do daylight functional external monitors. As long as you shoot like a film crew with follow focus gear, you can easily get by in most situations. You just need your marks. You CAN see enough to compose, and with provided shade, CAN set your focus marks.

You need to feed it good audio, and without phantom power, this means finding a good solution like the Sound Devices MM-1, which works superbly. I think getting a good sync-worthy track on camera and then syncing multitrack to it with PluralEyes will be very easy.

The camera comes with Davinci Resolve 9, which will have an upgrade path to 10 soon. Davinci Resolve 10 includes an option (DCP Mastering) currently costing filmmakers thousands of dollars for each iteration of theatrical testing.

For the amateur, this is a camera which can go along in your camera bag, completely changing the scope of your moviemaking. Using film settings under ProRes provides an enviable image past that of any DSLR.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I do independent film making, Thus far the BMCC is a simple to use camera, it is far better in low light than I thought it would be provided the right settings and fast enough glass. The Raw Dng images are amazing in that I can pull a lot out of them with incredible detail and range at 2.5k size. at just under $[$], it is an absolute steal for what you get, very solid build as well.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I've always wanted to own a proper Cinema Camera like the RED EPIC or the Arri Alexa, but my wallet isn't deep enough for them. Sure I can rent them out, but there are so many things to worry about because essentially I'm borrowing an expensive piece of equipment that I can't afford. I want Cinema Camera to be mine and that I can use at all times. When Blackmagic Design came out with their Cinema Camera there were three things that caught my attention:2.5K RAW13 Stops of Dynamic Range$[$] Price TagWithout any hesitation I bought it. Now sure there are some accessories that are required to get the camera running, but it's less expensive than accessories for the RED or Arri and it's more accessible. There are a lot of companies that are making accessories! Build quality is excellent, almost the same as an Apple product. Image quality is immaculate, same as an Arri Alexa. It isn't the most ergonomically featured camera, but once you get around that the images that comes out of this thing speaks for itself.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I picked up this camera to shoot short films and smaller scale commercial work. It is incredibly intuitive to use I find that the menus make a lot more sense then other cameras I have used (7D, HVX, Scarlet). Everything is where I would expect and I love that I can flag clips in camera. Also, RAW, Pro res and DNXhd are all logical formats to shoot in. Footage looks great.

Additionally, the camera is built very solid. It feels like a tool in your hands- not a toy.

            Great buy.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

If you are like me you are well aware of the pitfalls of this camera and you are aware that the production camera makes this one almost obsolete, however this camera still has an absoluly staggering picture. For the price this camera is well worth the inconviences. My biggest problem so far is that the picture is so clear that it showes how painfully dirty my lenses are.

Comments about Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera with MFT Mount:

I bought this camera for the dynamic range. Which makes it an amazing camera for the price, especially the newly reduced price. I use it with a PL adapter and Zeiss Superspeeds. Things you should be aware of. Rolling shutter is an issue, the ergonomics are awkward, you need an external power source and most importantly the camera has totally inconsistent quality in it's sensor manufacturing. Some batches of sensors have horrible banding issues in the shadow detail. This is an issue that only exists in ISO's other than 200. Be sure to test your camera with the lens cap on while it's still under warranty. If you get a good one great but don't get stuck with a bad version of the camera. It's a flagship model. It has issues.
