Comments about LenovoEMC Iomega ix2 2-Bay Storage Array:

A well built unit with EMC software. Since it supports iSCSI it can be used for a variety of applications. In my case, I use it to store server backups and images including virtual machine Veeam images. I recommend using WD Red drives, as they are optimized for NAS.Gave it a 4 Star rating as it comes with a single NIC, instead of two. And you can't beat B&H pricing!

Comments about LenovoEMC Iomega ix2 2-Bay Storage Array:

I've had two of these for running for about a month, and so far they've been completely reliable. I'm basically using them as plain network-attached-storage though, not using hardly any of the fancy built-in software like youtube and flickr integration or "personal cloud", things like that. In fact, for security I have them blocked at the firewall from any internet access.

They average about 31MB/s write speed and 61MB/s read, over a wired gigabit connection with a RAID0 drive configuration. That's not very speedy, compare to 120MB/s reading / 105MB/s writing to another PC on the same network. But for backups and video streaming, it's just fine.

With two hard drives, they consume about 15w of power when working hard, 11w when idle, and 7w with the drives powered down.

One complaint I have is that it will only accept one drive or two drives of the same size. I had assumed that since it works as JBOD, it would work with mismatched drives if they aren't running in a RAID configuration. But that isn't the case, it simply refuses to initialize if the drives aren't the same.

Expect to spend a couple of hours updating the firmware, formatting drives, setting up shares, turning off or configuring all the built-in software, etc. But that goes with any NAS.

Comments about LenovoEMC Iomega ix2 2-Bay Storage Array:

For the price, it's hard to beat this entry level NAS. The fan is quiet and it doesn't run very hot anyways. Transfer rates are on the slower side, but I don't have a high speed drive in there.

The Lenovo web-based UI is fairly simple, but it'll take a little while to get it customized to your preference.

Iomega/Leonvo sends out periodic firmware upgrades and I haven't had any issues so far.

I haven't used the BitTorrent functionality; but the iOS app works fine for movies and music.
