Comments about LenovoEMC Iomega ix4-300d 4-Bay Network Storage (Diskless):

    Install drives.
    Plug it in.
Come back the next day when it's done formatting and you have a whole lot of RAID5 space with standard (Pictures, Video, Documents, etc) set up.

If you plug a USB storage device into one of the USB ports, it will prompt you on the front panel for QuickCopy (Y or N). If you approve, it pulls all of the data from the USB device to disk and sets up a new share identified by the name of the device for the copy now stored internally. Regardless, it creates a share for accessing the external USB device via the network.

Plug it into your network and really the only configuration you need to do is to set up your login credentials. Theoretically, you don't have to set up login credentials, but failing to do so would just be stupid.

Since they recommend all disks in the array be of the same type, my data storage needs will only grow, and you lose about 1/3 of your raw space to redundancy, I just bough 4x the drive capacity I needed and cried once. Since I needed about 4TB of space, I bought 4 x 4TB drives from the compatibility list leaving me with about 11TB of RAID5 space.
    Done.

Data transfer over the network is slower than it would be with DAS, but for me that is only an issue for the initial baseline dump. Being able to locate the unit 100 feet away on the other end of a CAT6 cable in a safe location was more important for my purposes.

Comments about LenovoEMC Iomega ix4-300d 4-Bay Network Storage (Diskless):

This was a 'plug & play' device. Plug in the ethernet cables, turn on the power, and after it initializes will tell you the IP address of your new device.
I put my own drives in - be aware that it takes a good push before the drives 'snap' in place. If they don't snap in, they're not seated and the cover won't really fit down over them easily.
Also note if you use your own drives, they all need to be the same drive.
Nice features I didn't know prior to getting the device: You can plug external USB drives into the device and they show up as available folders on the network; You can run copy jobs in the background to pull in files - you don't have to watch your computer copy the files while it's happening.
Initial formatting took 10-12 hours for 4 2TB drives.
