The white Canon EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit combines the EOS M mirrorless digital camera with standard zoom lens with the Speedlite 90EX flash. The flash's compact size and lightweight design are well-matched to the EOS M and the guide no. of 30' at ISO 100 and optical wireless master function make it a versatile tool for rounding out the imaging abilities of the camera.

The EOS M features an APS-C-sized 18 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor to produce high resolution still imagery and full HD 1080p video at 30 fps with notable low-light sensitivity to an expandable ISO 25600. A 3.0" 1,040k-dot LCD monitor is integrated into the design and features a touchscreen interface for intuitive navigation of menus and playback options as well as precise control over focus points by using the Touch AF function. Hybrid CMOS AF is also available, which combines both phase- and contrast-detection methods of focusing to provide fast and accurate performance when working in live view. While recording movies, the Movie Servo AF mode can be employed for continuous focusing abilities that pairs well with the included EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens and its stepping motor for smoother, quieter focus performance. The EOS M also integrates a host of camera settings and modes, such as Scene Intelligent Auto, Handheld Night Scene Mode, and HDR Backlight Control, for refining the look and feel of imagery.

Sensor and Image Processor
High resolution 18MP CMOS APS-C sensor and high performance DIGIC 5 image processor equal fast functional response, exceptional image quality and sharp detail in both photo and video.
Full HD 1080p Movie
The EOS M offers full HD 1080p movie mode with Movie Servo AF for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects, manual exposure control, multiple resolution and frame rates, built-in stereo microphone with a wind filter, manual audio level adjustment, and Video Snapshot with editing. ISO in video ranges from 100-6400 and is expandable to 12800 in H mode. Combined with STM lenses, such as the included 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, the Movie Servo AF provides smooth, silent auto-focus function, a great benefit when shooting video. The camera automatically splits files larger than 4GB for extended, uninterrupted recording and offers a 3.5mm port for compatible external microphones. The file format for shooting video on the EOS M is MOV with H.264 compression standard. Video can be recorded in full HD, HD and SD and at full HD the possible frames rates are 30, 24 and 25 frames per second. Auto exposure and manual exposure control are both possible on video as well as photo capture.
ISO Sensitivity
Normal sensitivity ranges from ISO 100-12800, but expands in High Sensitivity Mode to ISO 25600 for faster shutter speeds and sharper details in low light.
Hybrid CMOS Auto-focus
Hybrid CMOS AF uses a combination of both Contrast AF, which utilizes the CMOS sensor and Phase Difference Auto-focus to increase accuracy and auto-focus speed in both photo and video.
Touch Screen 3.0" LCD with Touch AF
Thanks to a new construction between the its resin-coated cover and the liquid crystal display, the 3.0" Clear View LCD monitor keeps glare to a minimum and makes it easy to see your images even in bright light. The 1,040,000-dot resolution is ideal for playback and focusing and the smudge-resistant coating on the LCD preserves the luminosity after multiple touches. Numerous camera operations can be handled by the touch screen including Auto-focus control, whereby you touch the LCD screen on the part of the image you want in focus. Two-finger (multi-touch) control allows you to zoom, scroll images and navigate the menus as you would with a smartphone. The LCD has an adjustable seven-level brightness control and a viewing angle of 170º and aspect ratio of 3:2.
Noise Reduction
Multi Shot Noise Reduction provides outstanding noise reduction while preserving fine detail in photos at high ISO speeds. With MSNR activated, the camera takes four consecutive shots of the same image, then merges and aligns them, reducing noise and blur.
Continuous Shooting and Burst Rate
For still photography, the EOS M can shoot up to 4.3 frames per second for up to 15 shots utilizing an SD card in JPEG mode. With a UHS-I card that number lifts to 17 shots at 4.3fps. For video, the continuous shooting time in full HD on a 16GB memory card is 44 minutes.
Advanced Imaging Features
Handheld Night Scene and High Dynamic Range are assistive functions that allow all levels of photographers to take advantage of digital advancements to improve their shooting results. HDR, for example, shoots three images of the exact same image simultaneously in various exposures and combines the three into one perfectly balanced photo. This is ideal when shooting images that have both shadow and bright light and those whose subject is lit from behind. The EOS M also offers seven Creative Filters to enhance your images, including Toy Camera Effect and Art Bold Effect, which makes your photo look like an oil painting.
Scene Intelligent Auto Mode
Scene Intelligent Auto mode optimizes all of the camera's auto controls to provide the best settings based on the camera's reading of the scene. You compose the shot, and the camera does the rest.
Recording
The EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera uses popular SD, SDHC, SDXC memory cards, and is also compatible with the newest Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) memory cards.
Live View Functions
Live View functions include Autofocus with Face Detection and Tracking AF and FlexiZone Multi and Single. Metering in Live View include partial, spot and center-weighted average metering with a metering range of EV 1 to EV 20. Two types of grid displays and exposure simulation are also available in Live View.

Canon EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Included
This kit includes Canon's EF-M-mount zoom lens, the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6mm IS STM lens. The 35mm format equivalency is approximately 28-90mm, which makes this a comprehensive wide-angle to standard zoom, ideal for day-to-day shooting needs. Its IS (Image Stabilization) technology reduces the effects of camera movement up to the equivalent of 4 stops, and can eliminate blur from low light or longer telephoto shots. This lens also supports the Movie Servo AF function for smooth and quiet continuous autofocus during video shooting by utilizing a stepping motor (STM); it even has Dynamic IS in Movie Shooting Mode to provide the image stabilization needed while recording video when walking. Three aspherical elements reduce optical aberrations, and multi-coatings minimize flare to provide sharp, high quality images.

I needed a stealthy camera for B-roll video and decent still images. Originally, the EOS M was out of my price/value range, but when the B&H kit price dropped, I signed up. Haven't regretted it. The learning curve is faster than I expected. Shooting and processing stills in RAW is fantastic.
I mount a Zoom H1 in the hot shoe if I need better than onboard audio. I have the 18-55 zoom and the 22mm prime. Now I'm looking for classic lenses to play with.
In my goal to reduce size and weight without sacrificing quality, the EOS M hit the mark.
Negatives? An articulating LCD screen would have been nice (but probably would increase the size). And while we're at it, I'd like focus peaking. Focus takes some getting used too, but using the touch screen helps tremendously. I haven't manually focused much, but it seems like that will be challenge on a fixed screen.

Just after Thanksgiving, I bought the EOS-M, EX90 Flash, 18-55mm lens, and EOS EF-M lens adaptor "for my wife" (with big plans of using it myself) in great part because I was highly encouraged by proclamations that its firmware update Ver. 2.0.2 increased auto-focus (AF) speed and accuracy. I was also enthused about the camera's ability to accept my collection of EF lenses and remain excited after having used several of my EF lenses in multiple situations.
BAD NEWS: I am very disappointed in slo-o-o-w auto AF--which too often has caused me to miss great moments. In fact, my wife's old non-Canon, average-quality/mid-range point-and-shoot focuses faster and more reliably than the EOS-M with any lens attached. Based on my personal experience, I REALLY, REALLY implore Canon to develop another firmware update that improves AF to acceptable speed & reliability, reduces the AF's major hunting for focus indoors (especially as its 18-55mm kit lens is zoomed closer to 55mm), defaults to lower auto ISOs when the flash is on, and (here's the easiest one, I think) allows ISO to be set manually in 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments. In addition to the aforementioned shortcomings, key missing features that should have been on the EOS-M and certainly belong on the next generation model are: (1) Built-in flash is essential due to considerable noise at ISO 1600 and up; the 90EX flash, which does well for its size, but you need to plan ahead by installing it "just in case" or risk missing a low-light moment; (2) longer battery duration; (3) an easily accessible button to manually lock/unlock the touch screen so contact with my chest won't change settings; and (4) either quicker start-up time or sleep mode that awakens the camera with touch of shutter release button.
GOOD NEWS: Excellent still & video image quality (in moderate indoor to outdoor light). Phenomenal large aperture pics with my EF prime lenses (85mm f/1.8 and my favorite 35mm f/1.4 L).
BOTTOM LINE: Not bad for Canon's 1st attempt, but I really expected much better from the undisputed champion of photo equipment. Canon really owes current EOS-M customers the firmware updates I've begged for above and a higher capacity battery. I've been extremely loyal to Canon since 1986 and have loved all Canon products I've owned. However, I am seriously debating whether to return my EOS-M or learn to accept and work within its several unfortunate limitations.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (Black):

I have been testing this camera using an FD-->EOS-M adapter, and get superb images out of my FD 300mm f/2.8L. 1. Mount the adapter on the lens. My adapter must be in "open" position to get manual control of the diaphragm. When you've got it right, you can turn the aperture ring and verify that the aperture closes down. 2. Mount the lens + adapter to the camera and set aperture priority. Also set the camera so "shutter operates with no lens on camera". With FD manual focus lenses there is no signal from the lens, so camera thinks "no lens". 3. As you move the aperture, the camera will automatically adjust the exposure. Manual focus, of course, and no Image Stabilization. The camera will also manage ISO (but you can override). I am also getting good results with a 1.4X teleconverter, so my lens becomes a 480mm f/2.8 (APS sensor is another factor of 1.6X ) and also a 672mm f/4 Not too shabby! The small EOS-M mount makes it possible to use FD lenses for digital. My push-pull L-series zoom lenses also work and WYSIWYG applies. This is why I bought the camera--just to try shooting with FD lenses, which I like a lot. Results are simply stunning; the image quality is superb. Of course there is no autofocus, no image stabilizer, no electrical contact with fully manual lenses but I am a patient photographer, never in a hurry, and take my time anyway. For sports or other fast action subjects, we are better served by autofocus lenses and IS. My old 300mm f/2.8 lens never had it so good with rather impressive image quality all the up to ISO 12800, and no mirror vibration to worry about. In a way I like a camera with no viewfinder. With other cameras I clean and clean the LCD because the oil on my nose leaves smudges! With this camera you just inspect the LCD which is vivid in bright sunlight--much better than I was expecting. The three lenses I wanted to use, also FD 70-200 f//4L and FD 100-300 f/5.6L (along with 300mm f/2.8) all adapt very nicely, and the 1.6X magnification is advantageous in the telephoto lens. Since it's pretty good glass in the first place, the cropped sensor image still has more resolution than an 18MP sensor can record.I should mention that the kit lens 18-55mm is an excellent build, with unexpectedly good image quality and IS as well. This combination is incredibly small and light! The camera is not clunky in any way, controls are easily operated on the LCD, which is a high-quality touch screen. In addition body and screen are highly resistant to smudges and finger prints. For short money EF lenses can also be adapted. It's not the fastest camera on earth, but the images are of superb quality. In many ways I like this better than my EOS 6D which sells for 5 times the price.

We bought these cameras for our beginning Journalism students, but have found the image quality and camera features to be appropriate for our advanced photographers. The lens feels far sturdier than many of those I've used from Panasonic or Nikon.

The EOS M is Canon quality, light weight, easy to use. It is good for family photos & landscapes on 4X6 prints & small screens. The camera w/ 18-55 IS lens, 90 EX flash, extra battery, 16GB card, lens hood, & UV filter all cost under 1/2K.
In my opinion, this camera is not a back-up for any DSLR if you are a serious photo enthusiast. It is awkward for big hands. I had to disable the touch screen shutter. It did not suit my needs. I gave it to my wife. She loves it. For her, its a major upgrade from a 7.2mp Kodak P&S.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (Black):

At current prices a very good mirrorless value especially, with the lens adapter,if you're invested in Canon lenses. I really enjoy using it with my 100mm IS macro lens. Slow shot to shot and some shutter lag but fine for most situations. It even auto focuses with my 400mm and a my 1.4x Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 for a 900mm total equivalent. I have a Canon 6D and many lenses and this camera is great for a light weight alternative to my 6D. I've tried Fuji and Olympus mirrorless but didn't want to invest in another lens line. Also tried the Canon SL1 and although it is an excellent small DSLR I didn't like the build quality. The M lenses I own, the 22mm f2.0 and 18-55mm kit lens, feel very well made, are small, and relatively inexpensive. I think there is alot of potential in Canon's M system and I look forward to future developments.

I own a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon EOS 60D and just got the EOS M. I was not 100% sure to purchase the EOS M after talking to some friends and reading some reviews about the bad focus performance. I am so glad that I gave the EOM M a chance. It is a wonderful camera and the results are amazing. It took me a while to figure out how to disable to autofocus. Because there is no viewfinder, the lenses keep focusing all the time.
          Great value.

It does have an audio input and the AF servo works well for video. Plus, unlike the twice the price Sony NEX-6, you can install Magic Lantern.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (Black):

First the caveats: this is the first interchangeable-lens Canon camera I've used (I have a Nikon DSLR), I did not use the flash, and I did not buy the camera but rented it to see how well I liked it.

Taking the last first, I liked it a lot. It took me awhile to find the menu options I was looking for (somehow I inadvertently set the timer, for example), but other than those and some other novice mistakes the camera is easy to use, easy to hold, and compact as would be expected with a mirror-less camera. The protocols of any camera can be learned but I was most interested in image quality, and the M did not disappoint.

The attached image doesn't have much to recommend it from a composition standpoint but I included it to show color rendition, for both natural and man-made objects, and the full sun / shade capabilities. The people in front were also moving when I took the photo. This was taken with the 18-55 lens, at 26mm, 1/250, f10, ISO 100. Other than image size the photo was not edited.

A couple of issues: focus occasionally did not lock right away, but that was rare, and the display washed out in the bright sun until I set it at the brightest setting; even then it could be tough to see. The more I used the camera the less problem I had with focus lock so I'm going to say that problem was mostly user error. I assume, but didn't check, that this rental has the latest firmware update.

Movies exceeded my expectations, particularly for someone who doesn't usually take movies and who is even more of a novice at specifying the movie settings for a camera. I took a movie of the train leaving the station and even of my feet while I was walking along the platform just to see how well it did. My wife, who is not a photographer, commented on the quality of the train movie.

Will I buy it? No, but not because I didn't like it. Rumors are that Canon will be doing an update of the M so I'm going to play the 'let's wait for the new version' game even though an updated M will almost certainly be more expensive.

But this M package is tempting, very tempting. For those looking now for a compact, high image quality camera at a great price, the M is an easy recommendation.

          Great Camera For Me

          By Mike, the Digital Evangelist

          from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (Black):

I have bought two of these cameras from the B&H superstore in Manhattan. First of all, even if you spend $1million, the camera you buy won't be perfect, it will still have some shortcomings. Second, if you are a pro, you should know what you want to do, and what kind of tools you need to get the job done. I'm sick of folks buying the wrong camera for their needs and then crying about it, because it cannot cook dinner or change the baby's diaper! I bought my two EOS Ms for low budget, indie filmmaking. I couldn't be any happier with them. A lot of photographers are complaining about auto focus, but my needs as a filmmaker are different from theirs, so I never go by their reviews. Bottom line is, a professional always works around the limitations of his tools. And remember, in every art, it's always the artist, not the tools, that produce the masterpiece.

Great quality pictures, much better than what I expected. A little slow on the focusing but manageble, it is the only negative I will give this camera. The menus are the same as the bigger SLRs so it was very easy to manuever and get used to it.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (White):

            --END--

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (White):

I have been wanting to get a DSLR or a Camcorder that I can use to shoot videos at under $ and had read a lot about the T4i, T5i and the G10. In the process I found the EOS M had the same sensor as the T4i/T5i with mic input also and preferred the smaller size. Lon story short, I was still saving to get this when the prize dropped so I bought it and still had money left. I have no regret. and would recommend it to others, especially since the also upgraded the firmware.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (White):

If you have perused the internet for reviews of this camera, you've witnessed what the majority have said. Quibbles about it not having an articulating LCD screen, it doesn't have an optical or electronic viewfinder ouside of the LCD screen, the autofocus that isn't up to par of DSLRs as far as speed and accuracy.

Everyone is judging this camera on what it is NOT, instead of what it IS. I am an advanced hobbyist, published a few times and I have sold a few images here and there, mostly without trying. My main focus is nature and wildlife. Birds, mega-fauna, macro work on plants and insects, etc. My main camera is an EOS 7D with a backup body consisiting of a 30D. All of that tells you what kind of photography I normally do. With this little mirrorless camera, I do other things. This is a great camera for carrying around when you don't want to lug the big stuff around. Not an action camera, but great for architecture, still lifes, noticing patterns, holiday photos, vacation photos... and what I am most excited about, some really great video. I don't use my 7D for video, even though it takes excellent video. This small mirrorless, also takes excellent video and it can be less obstrusive. You can carry it as is, small and compact, or you can add on a handle grip, a viewfinder magnifier and an external mic, use your collection of EF lenses and get creative to your heart's content. Bottom line, this is a fun camera. It has limitations but it also opens up opportunities to shoot differently, maybe in a manner that you aren't used to doing.

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (White):

            - This was a great kit.
I wanted to upgrade from point and shoot, but did not want to buy a DSLR camera. Reasons: The heavy weight would discourage me from aatually carrying around the camera to take photos.
So was keeping an eye out for the Sony NEX series, but there were no good offers this thanksgiving on them.
Bought this EOS M kit, and very happy with it.

            - PROS: Lightweight, easy to use, easy to learn, good low-light pictures, excellent indoor and outdoor photos, lots of inbuilt filters, kit has external flash

-CONS: The LCD does not pull out/tilt, so sometimes to difficult to shoot from angles. Doesnot focus on the subject super close shots in the macro mode (although this maybe my fault- i may have to tweak the manual controls)

Comments about EOS M Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Flash Kit (White):

I love how light and portable this camera is and the high resolution but for most of what I do I need a telephoto lens which Canon is not yet making in the M format. Although I bought the adaptor and tried it out with a lens I already own I found it very cumbersome to use on this camera. There is a reason Canon included a tripod mount on the adaptor! It is next to impossible to hold the camera and lens, compose an image, choose the focusing point and adjust the exposure on the touch screen all with only two hands. Even with image stabilization your composition and exposure can be guess and by gosh especially in an action environment. If you just want a fully automated camera it should be just fine for you but if you want complete control over the image you will be challenged. That said I expect to get a lot of use out of the camera because, as they say, the best camera is the one you have with you and I am much more likely to carry this one around for casual shooting than the 5 lb monster.

I travel a lot and lately I found a little uncomfortable to do so with my 5D. I decided to look for a point and shoot with manual mode and good quality as well. I am totally happy with this little marvel! Some people are complaining about the speed of the focus, but as a pro photographer let me tell you this guy is doing more than I was expected. The funniest thing is that I tried it with top of the line lenses and the results is amazing. Good job Canon. Good job B&H. Ordered in Paris on wednesday, received in Quebec Canada, next Monday. Love the way you work B&H!
