The Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod is a great tripod for anyone who needs to pack light and reserve the option to, at a moment's notice, slim down their camera's support system to just a monopod. The N-1004KX features a leg that unscrews and attaches to a second included mounting plate to form a monopod. And, differing from the N-1004 model, the N-1004KX features a split center column for a fast and easy transition to low-angle shooting.

Reaching a maximum height of 63", the tripod itself is quite versatile in its own right – the N-1004KX weighs just 2.9 lb but supports up to 26.5 lb thanks to its thick leg sections (only 3mm difference in diameter of each leg section) and forged aluminum alloy construction. It's suitable for use with just about any head and any 35mm camera, DSLR, point & shoot, or camcorder.

The N-1004KX tripod's legs fold upward 180° to achieve a relatively compact folded length of 17.3" – even with select head models attached. The entire package will fit comfortably in most carry-on bags and many backpacks. A custom case with padded handle is included.

The tripod's center column is reversible, and the N-1004KX comes with a short center column so that you can set up extremely close to the ground for ultra-low-angle shooting. With the center column split and the long section removed, you can set the legs at their widest angle (80°) and shoot from only 6.3" off the ground.

The tripod converts easily into a monopod.
A new split center column allows for faster and easier transition to low-angle shooting.
Forged aluminum alloy results in stronger components than the traditional casting process that's often used for tripod chassis. Forging leads to more compacted metal and enhances the integrity of metal grains so they remain consistent and continuous. This leads to a longer product life and better performance.
An anodizing surface treatment, produced by an electrolytic oxidation process to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, is applied to increase corrosion, wear resistance and surface hardness to enhance color durability.
3mm diameter difference between each successive leg section for greater overall stability.
Silicone twist locks for leg stages and anti-leg rotation system for faster, one-handed set-up.
Automatic leg-angle lock mechanism for speed and convenience – independently lock legs into place at three different angles: 23°, 52° & 80°.
Short center column allows the tripod to reach extremely low positions – minimum height of 6.3".
An additional mounting plate attaches to the unscrewed monopod leg to mount a camera. A wrist strap is included for security in case the operator's grip slips.
Leg warmer/padding facilitates handling in extreme weather conditions and adds level of protection.
Center column hook allows you to add ballast for a sturdier setup in windy conditions
Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw on mounting plate enables the attachment of virtually any camera, camcorder, or head.
Well-designed padded travel bag with sturdy shoulder strap for carrying is included.

Comments about Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

Looks good, works well in the short run. When its in good working order, its a fine tripod. But after nearly two years of heavy use, many manufacturing short cuts have become evident. First, after less than two months of use, the screws of one leg became loose and they have to be tightened every week to make the leg work right. After a year, the screws on a second leg developed the same defect -- now I just have a leg screw tightening ritual every week. Second, almost all the rubber pieces have developed cracks, worn spots, or other defects. Two of them have split and are gone. Third, the small metal chuck that fits into the groove on the column and keeps it from rotating has apparently fallen out and the column now turns when you try to unscrew a head from the column. I never noticed the piece until it disappeared -- it seems to be press-fitted from the outside of the spider. For about $ more they could have prevented all these problems from happening. Now I need a new tripod. What do you think the odds are that I will get a more expensive Sirui?

Comments about Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

          It is my first tripod.
Comparing to 5-section of Sirui T-1x05 series, the length is a little longer but 4-section is quicker and taller. This tripod is very rigid and stable.

Comments about Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I have any been using this tripod for a couple of weeks, I use it professionally to shoot architectural photography. I needed a sturdy, light tripod that I could set up quickly. This definitely fits the bill. One has to actually hold the tripod in their hand to realize how light it actually is (very similar to carbon fiber). It is very similar in weight to my previous tripod but far more stable and secure. At this point my only complaint is the mechanics of the leg extension feel slightly stiff. My experience with tripods (and I have had many) this stiffness well disappear after its broken-in.

I bought this to fit in my 21" airline bag for a recent trip to Arizona. I was a little skeptical trying to use it extended all the way out with my 7D and a 70- 200mm. It actually held up well even with my 400mm. It folds down to 15" making it perfect for travel!

Comments about Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

This is very compact and lightweight and will hold all of my gear just fine. My setup right now doesn't go over 7 lbs. and there is no wobble at all in the conditions I have used it in so far. The monopod leg is a little difficult to assemble with just the directions. The leg attachment is actually the bottom part of the center column, not the top like I thought. I am very happy with this purchase and would buy it again in an instant.

Comments about Sirui N-1004KX 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

I own several other units, including much more expensive Manfrotto 055CXPro3 and Benro unit.

I have to admit that so far this Sirui is holding up great and I really like that is lighter than even CF tripods and also very stable with very high max load. The extra bonus is that one of the legs can be converted into a monopod.

Highly recommended, especially considering the price - great value
