Questions? Ask our experts:

This Pro Lens Adapter from Fotodiox enables the use of your Minolta MD lenses on Nikon F mount SLR and DSLR cameras. It features a durable brass construction with stainless steel finish and a leaf spring ensures a secure connection between the lens and adapter. Additionally, through the use of a 1.4x multi-coated focus correction lens, this adapter is designed to maintain infinity focus. This correction lens can also be removed to render the adapter as an extension tube for macro shooting.

This manual adapter does not maintain automatic lens control between the camera and lens; aperture priority or manual shooting modes should be used, as well as stop-down metering for exposure control.

I use the Minolta adapter for Nikon on my D3200. I have a Minolta 50mm f/1.4 lens and it fits perfectly on my D3200. The photos are sharp. The only drawback to using the Minolta lens is it can't be used in Auto mode, but other than that the adapter does its job and it's made well. I recommend it for any Minolta/Nikon users, even just to have it to play around and experiment with.

This adapter functions perfectly. However, you must use the aperture ring on the lens and manual focus. If you have a pretty good understanding of the aperture/ISO/shutter triangle, you will do well with this. Image quality is very good but don't expect every image to be tack-sharp. I found that in the middle of the aperture range for the lenses I've tried with it works best. For the money, it's fun to play with some different glass.

Comments about FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera:

So far this product had been excellent. I have 12 Minolta MD lenses that were previously useless for digital photography without this adaptor. Now I can use them again. However I am having some problems doing what I hoped to do with it - and these are not the fault of this Pro Lens at all.

I am using this on a Nikon D5500. For no apparent reason, the D5500 is not willing to use the meter and automatic exposure mode in aperture priority. Sad. I don't see any technical reason the Nikon can't just meter the light coming in and just allow the lens to be used at whatever aperture it is on, and just adjust the shutter like aperture priority is supposed to do. I suppose Nikon didn't really care about us folks with older lenses.

The moral here is be sure what your digital camera can and can't do with these old lens adaptors. Thank God the focus confirmation still is active on my Nikon D5500 in manual mode. Without a split prisim and microprisim collar in the viewfinder, it's hard to focus precisely manually.

The other issues I have are minor: I'm so used to my Minolta bayonets turning in one direction, but the Nikon turns in the opposite direction. A habit that will likely take years to unlearn. I'm always fumbling when changing lenses now, trying to remember which way to turn which bayonet.

These adaptors do have the dot mark on both sides to line up the bayonet position, but in the style of Nikon the dots are white and not red, and they are not rasied to be able to feel without looking. It does have an unlock button so you know the lens is securely attached.

If you read the description it should be no surprise that this adaptor needs to have a bit of "teleconverter" on it (to make it possible because of the fundamental geometry differences between the MD lens mount and Nikon). I believe it's 1.4X? Add to that my use of the smaller image sensor and even my extremely ultra-wide lens now is no wider than a slightly-wide 35mm normal wide lens for 35mm film. I'd have to spend a small fortune to get a truly wide lens capability again.

So you should know you loose automatic stop-down and of course auto-focus capabilities. But you also may loose a true wide-angle lens choice especially with an APS-C sized image sensor. You also loose a bit of light as the f-stops are no longer exactly "calibrated". On the plus side your tele lenses are even more tele!

You may not want to use this if you are shooting on-the-fly with subjects like action sports, children, animals etc. - subjects that demand quick response. This works better for those slower, deliberate photographs like landscape photography. Using a lens old-skool takes more time to handle exposure, focus and stop-down.

If all that is a acceptable trade-off for using all your old favorite MD lenses (and Minolta lenses are/were excellent!) then this is a very well-made adaptor that looks like something made by Minolta themselves. It's well built, precise, smooth and secure with no wobbles. Definately worth the small price.

This adapter works fine! I use it on my Nikon D5000 and Minolta 55mm f1.7. The reason I gave 4 stars is because, even with expedited shipping, it took quite a while to get here. The address was wrong so it got shipped all the way back to NY from TX. Anyways, it all got sorted out in the end and I'll keep ordering from B&H.

Comments about FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera:

This product worked great for me and allowed me to use an array of old Minolta MC lenses with my Nikon D5200 DSLR. As mentioned in the description, you lose auto focus (if you use it) and metering. But ultimately, if you know your way around a camera this is irrelevant and you can still develop beautiful photos with a little patience and "old school" light metering. Had I purchased the equivalent Nikon lenses, it would have cost me over 3 grand. Needless to say, this much cheaper option was a better way to go. Also, thanks B&H for the fast shipping. I received this product 2 days after I ordered it. Great service, and I would buy from again.

Comments about FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera:

This adapter allows me to use my old Minolta lenses with my Nikon DSLR. It took a little figuring out, as the adapter came with no instructions. With my D5000, I have to be in full manual mode. It's not worth using with some of the Minolta lenses, as the Nikon lenses work with the camera to focus, adjust speed and aperture, and provide image stabilization. But at least two of the Minolta lenses extend the range of my camera without my having to invest more money.

Comments about FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera:

Compared to some other, cheaper adapters of this sort, I think the extra few dollars are well worth it. I've used cut-rate adapters in the past and experienced focusing problems, especially near-infinity range. This adapter works flawlessly and allows the use of some really excellent glass on your Nikon camera. Don't hesitate to get this one instead of the cheaper ones.

I inherited from my father an older 1000mm Tele-Zoom lens that had been used to take pictures of wildlife in Africa. The film Minolta camera it was on was broken and I wanted to try the lens out on my Nikon D5100. Having no idea what I needed, I reached out to B&H and they were amazing in their quick support. They found the adapter that I needed at a price that was comparable to other stores and now I am having a great time using this lens on my Nikon.

This adapter seems to be well made and fits tight on the lens and to my D7100. I did have some issues with haziness in images as some other reviewers had mentioned, but it was not the adapter but my 30+ year old MD lens. Some lens were clear and fine but some had developed a inside haze on the lens. Bottom line, the adapter works great!

The Fotodio X adapter is very well made, all metal construction supporting the optical lens, and works well on my Nikon D3200. It is definitely worth the cost, at this very reasonable price. I have 6 Minolta MD Rokkor lenses left over from my shooting film days, so being able to use them on my D3200 would be a great bonus. So I purchased the Fotodio X adaptor and I'm very happy with the purchase. The adapter works very well, the photos are very clear and sharp. You just have to make sure when focusing on a subject your focus is spot on.

I tried this adapter on my Nikon D40 using an old Minolta 50mm lens. Everything fit great and looked great through the view-finder. However, when I shot some photos, they were blurred and had a weird look to them, not sharp at all. I messed with it for about twenty minutes and got maybe 5 or 6 images to look ok, mostly with small apertures ( f5.6 and f8). Maybe I'm missing something, but I feel like it should be giving me better images than it is. Oh well, worth a try.

Solid construction. Connects my Minolta lenses right to my Nikon D3100 nicely and feels solid. And the image looks nice.

I wanted to use my many Minolta manual lenses on my Nikon D-3200. This did the job perfectly. It takes clear photos with no distortion.

Comments about FotodioX Pro Lens Mount Adapter for Minolta MD Lens to Nikon F Mount Camera:

The product itself is great. Works great, simple to use. You just have to make sure your Nikon is in Manual mode (it won't work in any other mode, so all you Auto-shooters may not want to buy this). I was trained on film, so the fact that I can now use a manual iris is super helpful. It also works in Video mode, which is also great. I've heard a lot of people complain about light loss, but it really isn't that bad. You lose maybe a stop to a stop and a half of light. I would say it's probably not ideal for low light situations.

The only downside is that the camera won't meter with any of these lenses, but that's Nikon's fault not FotodioX.
