Along with enhanced color accuracy you also benefit from a large display size capable of accepting two separate video streams with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 109 pixels per inch along with a 6ms response time. You also benefit from ASUS' Smart Contrast Ratio of 100,000,000:1 ensuring darker dark and brighter light colors creating a more dynamic picture.

The PA279Q display comes equipped with HDMI, DisplayPort Input, Daisy-chain DisplayPort output, and dual-link DVI-D ports for versatile connectivity options. Aside from video inputs, you can take advantage of seven USB 3.0 ports (one upstream and six downstream). One of the Superspeed USB ports also come equipped with SuperSpeed Battery Charge allowing you to charge your compatible devices up to 40% faster when compared to standard USB 3.0. You can set up this monitor with the included stand or mount it on a wall and take advantage of enhanced 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

Enhanced Color Consistency
The ASUS PA279Q is pre-calibrated at the factory for enhanced accuracy and color space reproduction - 99% Adobe RGB, 100% sRGB, and 120% NTSC. With a wide color gamut of 99% Adobe RGB, the colors seen in photos will be reproduced consistently in a way that cannot otherwise be displayed on monitors with just an sRGB color space.
10-bit Color for Smoother Gradations
The PA279Q offers 10-bit display color for over one billion onscreen colors and 14-bit internal lookup table (LUT) support, providing smoother gradations and a more natural transition between hues.
Pre-Calibrated
To ensure that each PA279Q monitor produces both enhanced and consistent color, the display's ∆E, gamma value and gray-scaling is carefully measured. It also supports Gamma 2.2 for PC and Gamma 1.8 for Mac, offering users more flexibilities to work with. Each PA279Q provides enhanced color accuracy, having been pre-calibrated to minimize the color different to ∆E (Delta E) of less than 2, ensuring precise reading of color input and improved color fidelity.
IPS Display Technology
The ASUS PA279Q features AH-IPS (Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching) display technology for improved color accuracy, a brighter image from increased backlight transmission and lower power consumption. Each PA279Q also features a brightness rating of 350cd/m² and a 100,000,000:1 Smart Contrast Ratio for enhanced image contrast.
See Wider
The PA279Q WQHD monitor provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in a 2560 x 1440 resolution, equaling four times the resolution of a standard 720p set. Take advantage of increased image detail and a larger on screen footprint. The screen's 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve enhanced visuals. The included LED backlighting on the PA279 provides improved power and energy savings while maintaining the picture quality.
Made for Work and Play
With its WQHD display, you can take advantage of 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27" full HD display, delivering smooth visuals with a 6ms (GTG) response time ensuring a lag-free experience for both movies and games.
6-Axis Independent Color Adjustment
Customized hue and saturation control with 6 color adjustment allows you to adjust six colors (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, and yellow) independently without effecting other colors.
Uniformity Compensation
The ASUS PA279Q comes with Uniformity Compensation to help solve problems like brightness and chroma (color) fluctuations on different parts of the screen. Simply turn on the Uniformity Compensation function in the OSD to prevent inconsistent and inaccurate color.
Connect with Ease
The PA279Q has a built-in multi-format memory card slot and a six-port USB 3.0 hub for convenient pass-through connectivity at speeds up to ten times that of USB 2.0, with compatible devices. One USB port also supports SuperSpeed Battery Charge for accelerated (about 40% faster) USB device recharging than standard USB 3.0. The ASUS PA279Q also comes equipped with DisplayPort, HDMI and dual-link DVI-D ports, and can display content from two video inputs simultaneously. DisplayPort allows users to display chain up to four monitors for a multi display workstation from one video source.
Splendid Video Intelligence Technology
ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology is built upon a color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of the user's current task, thereafter adjusting the display's parameters accordingly ensuring color accuracy and image fidelity. Seven preset modes (Scenery, Theater, Adobe RGB, sRGB, standard and two user modes) can be selected via a designated hotkey.
5 Way Navigation Key
The PA279Q has a 5-way navigation key that acts as a joystick that gives access to the QuickFit Virtual Scale function along with all OSD functions and settings.
Customizable OSD Shortcuts
The PA279Q also features two user-customizable shortcuts for frequently used monitor controls, removing the need to navigate the full on-screen menu system.
Picture-In-Picture & Picture-By-Picture
ASUS Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) allows users to view images from different signals in a variety of configurations. PIP and PBP let users view images from different signals and let them switch between main and PIP sources, including audio.
QuickFit Virtual Scale Function
With ASUS QuickFit Virtual Scale Function users can preview photos and documents on screen in their actual sizes prior to printing. It can be activated via a hotkey on the monitor and used as a guide to accurately view and edit photos. Additionally, the PA279Q comes with a choice of seven different background colors for users to choose form.
Ergonomic Design
The PA279Q comes with a versatile stand with full tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment. A monitor hood attachment is also supplied shielding the display from bright ambient light for even greater color accuracy.

I have paired this monitor with my 13in (mid 2012) MBP for photo editing and love the results. It has made my process much more comfortable. Aside from the screen size alone, knowing the monitor will work in the AdobeRGB color space and that the color is calibrated takes such a weight off of the shoulders. I was able to access the factory calibrated AdobeRGB colorspace on the monitor without any issue but decided just to custom calibrate it with a screen calibrator to know for sure what I was getting was right.

I was initially a little worried as some other reviewers had trouble pairing this monitor with their Mac's while maintaining the functionality of the monitor. From day one, this monitor has done everything I needed it to. The images from my camera are 4000x6000 pixels and the 2560x1440 resolution makes editing a great experience.

The monitor offers two other resolutions that I can't see myself using. 720p and 1080i. Why its not 1080p, I don't know. If using an HDMI cable the best resolution you can get is 1080. The monitor comes with all the cables you could need (Which was a great benefit) and I use the display port for the best results.

Initially, I didn't want to spend this much on a monitor. After trying some cheaper alternatives I realized that I just needed to go for it and invest in something that was built for the type of work I do.
I am very pleased with this monitor and look forward to many hours of photo editing with it.

not sure if this should be directed at BH for not listing it as a PC monitor or at asus for the same thing. Sure your Mac system can see the monitor and project on it but it won't let you adjust the resolution, which defeats the whole purpose of getting this monitor.

if you need this for professional usage on a mac, then go somewhere else.

with a price tag around $ less than the comparable apple monitor, I was able to use the saved money to upgrade the new MacBook Pro that was purchased to go with this monitor. The display is beautiful. Has plenty of controls and comes pre-calibrated. I also bought some calibration hardware to keep this monitor in spec, but haven't installed and used it yet as the new laptop hasnt arrived yet. No dead pixels on arrival. Easy ordering process and quick delivery from B&H make it a good experience.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

I'm really impressed with the ASUS PA279Q Monitor. Ever since I retired, I've taken up digital photography [mostly landscapes and macro] as a hobby and although I have have two suberb Nikon cameras, I have been getting by with a so-so Samsung monitor designed for a business user. The adobe rgb capability of my new ASUS PA279Q is a wonder. The color is amazing and suddenly, the colors on my prints look a lot more like the colors on my monitor. The monitor comes in a really big box, probably because it's packaged with the monitor stand attached and the monitor swiveled into the portrait position. So, you don't have to attach the stand before setting up; just swivel the monitor into the horizontal. This was a pleasant surprise. Setup and configuration was easy-peasy. The various display parameters and dimensions were perfect right out of the box. Asus packs all the cables you'll need including, most importantly for me, a displayport to displayport cable as well as a mini displayport to displayport cable. The only drawback, for some, is that the cables are only 6 feet long, which may be too short for some setups. The screen controls are on the lower right corner of the bezel. They are easy to operate and are very intuitive. There are two on-off switches, one on the bezel with the other controls, and a master on-off switch underneath the monitor on the main port housing. Remember to switch this to "on".One of the controls is like a "micro-joystick" which makes navigating the menu very easy. I couldn't find it documented in the user guide, but while selecting Adobe RGB color mode, I accidentally pushed the joystick button down and I was asked if I wanted to reset Adobe RGB. Unless I'm mistaken, if the colorspace drifts, this will reset it to the factory calibration. Still, I suppose most will want to use a colorimeter to customise the color profileI haven't encountered any "cons" so far and am very pleased with the ASUS PA297Q.

I use this monitor primarily for photo and video editing. It is a great monitor, good color setting right out of box, and with a very useful speaker build into which would satisfy for most of daily uses. One thing that makes this review a fours stars instead of five stars is that there's dead pixel around mid-upper corner of the screen. I do not think this would be an acceptable condition with this price range of a professional monitor.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

My 8 year old Dell 2707WFP 27" monitor was starting to show its age (discoloured screen, likely due to a failing polarizing filter), so after a month or two of research, I decided to purchase the PA279Q as a replacement. The PA279Q definitely looks a bit "plain jane" next to the 2707WFP with its brushed aluminium shell and gloss black base, but it more than makes up for that in performance, which can be described in one word - WOW. It does not offer all of the connection options that the Dell did (no VGA, composite or component input options), but not many people need those input options anyway. I can run the PA279Q at its native resolution (2560x1440) using my PC's Intel HD graphics, but only off of the PC's HDMI interface. Off of the DVI interface, the highest resolution I got was 1920x1080, using the DVI cable that was supplied with the monitor. The supplied driver disk does not contain a full setup program - something that makes the setup process a little more difficult than it needs to be.

The LED back light has made huge reductions in eyestrain compared to the CCFL in most monitors. Color is accurate and and having two separate saved user settings in addition the the factory color space defaults is great for changing light conditions.

USB3 hub is great for plugging everything in at once and speeding up backups.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

I purchased this monitor because my 6 year old 22" Samsung was starting to fail. I wanted a color accurate monitor, since I have been spending a lot of time in Photoshop. I have been very pleased with the monitor. Specifically, if I readjust my position in front of the monitor, I do not see any change in brightness or contrast that I did with the old one. I can edit photos from any position and feel confident that these adjustments were accurate. Color accuracy was also important to me, and I feel confident in not having to check the photos on different devices to ensure that it's correct.

Other features that I'm using on this monitor are the Display Port connection which has worked great for me. Also, I'm using the USB v3.0 hub built into the monitor to copy data from my camera's SD card, as well as connecting external drives. It's fast and easy to use.

This is a great monitor for any photographer/videoographer etc. the color and clearity is amazing. One thing I have noticed with most of the reviews is the misunderstanding of how to properly hook this monitor up to get the most out of it. first of all the HDMI cable will not allow you to get the most out of this monitor. Use the DisplayPort Cable. If it was a HDMI 2.0 cable then it would be able to send all the data posibal to get the most from this monitor. 2nd you have to have the video card that suports a 10 bit color output. So in other words befour you purchace this monitor make sure you have the Hardwear that allow you to get the fullest out of this monitor.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

Beautiful monitor with accurate color. My first monitor over 1080p and first with 10 bit color.
Don't have it hooked up to a 10 bit Graphics card yet, but this monitor really shines. Love the stand too. Very sturdy, with ever adjustment you could want.
The USB3 ports are a nice addition, but the SD card reader is completely useless. The card is not recognized when I insert it. I have to put the card in, turn the monitor off and on again just for the card to show up. Then, while importing photos to Lightroom, the card suddenly ejects itself in the middle of the import.
I probably would have given this monitor 5 stars if it didn't have a card reader, but when you say it's included, and people are expecting it, it better work.
All in all, excellent monitor, just don't expect a card reader too.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

I'm finally getting around to connecting this monitor to my brand new MacPro, and I'm so glad I chose to get this monitor. It's a great quality product, the colors are beautiful, I love the ergonomic design of it and I'm really looking forward to using it more. The only reason I've given it 4 stars is because getting it set up is somewhat challenging. As a previous reviewer said, the documention that's provided is kind of a joke. I honestly didn't know what cords were which and what I needed to be plugging into my computer to make it function as desired. For those curious - I ended up plugging the HDMI cable into the MacPro's HDMI port and it's worked great. Also, it took me forever to figure this out, but the USB 3 cable they include must be plugged into the underside of the monitor and then into your actual computer (the MacPro in my case) in order to power up the other USB connections included on the monitor. One other thing - upon first use of the monitor the screen felt a bit crunchy - like everything was overly sharpened and hard looking - AND I no longer had the option to switch the monitor to sRGB or RGB via the monitor controls. I did some internet sleuthing, and apparently Apple recognizes these displays as TVs and so it doesn't really show all the display can do. So, if you'd like to be able to use sRGB or RBG modes and have a better experience with the monitor, download and install a patch. I did it, it was easy, and I'm so glad I did. [*] So...great monitor, but a bit of a pain to get set up. If they had included just a bit more information, I would have had this up and running in a matter of minutes. Also, the speakers are "meh." They work, but the sound quality is certainly not going to wow anyone. Also, a bit of a pain to have to adjust volume via the monitor controls instead of the keyboard.

not sure if this should be directed at BH for not listing it as a PC monitor or at asus for the same thing. Sure your Mac system can see the monitor and project on it but it won't let you adjust the resolution, which defeats the whole purpose of getting this monitor.

if you need this for professional usage on a mac, then go somewhere else.

Comments about ASUS PA279Q 27" LED Backlit IPS Monitor:

I bought this monitor to replace a calibrated CRT monitor that I had used primarily for PhotoShop editing. I wanted to retain color accuracy, but with a larger, higher resolution monitor. First, I'm completely satisfied with the unit itself. The image quality and color accuracy is exactly what I wanted. However, the initial setup was a problem because the quick start guide, a single large sheet in 28 languages, is useless. On the first page, it starts with the Quick Fit button and then the menu, which is backwards because cables haven't been connected yet. The amount of space in english (or any other language) is about 3" x 3" because they have to make room for 28 languages on each side. On the back side is a picture of all possible connections, with an even smaller area for text which starts with "To connect the HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort cable" but says nothing about the qualities of each type connection. It doesn't even say that you need only one. Since it's been years since I bought a new monitor, I didn't know which one would be best for my purpose. My computer supports all three. Fortunately, there is plenty of good information on the web (but not from ASUS). When I couldn't get the monitor to work, I called Tech Support. The young man eventually helped me to get a good connection, probably not the best connection, and run through the menu to select the correct input line. ASUS Tech Support needs to realize that they deal with these issues everyday, but I buy a new monitor every five to six years and much changes in that time. Conclusion: were it not for the ridiculous Quick Start Guide (28 languages but no useful information to anyone) and somewhat condescending Tech Support, I would have easily given this monitor five stars.

I use this monitor as a center screen in between two NEC PA302W monitors. The Asus is the main screen that I use for internet, email, word processing, excel, and other random tasks...with the two NEC monitors getting the work for Lightroom and Photoshop. Even though I don't use the Asus predominantly for photos, it is still an excellent choice for photo editing, as it comes pre-calibreated and matches color well with the NEC monitors. It also comes with a monitor hood, even though it is a bit flimsy. The monitor is easily adjustable, relatively light weight, and shows very good color detail.

It is a very sharp monitor, with no perceived light bleeding along the corners. It was very easy to hook up (via HDMI in a Mac Pro). I'd recommend this monitor to anyone for pretty much any photo/video/graphical editing usage.
