Wifi & streaming video was initially not important but now that I have used this model, I find the ease of throwing youtube videos from my ipod to my tv quickly is addictive. However, I do not like that if you stop or pause a disc & then powering down, you cannot resume where you left off later with that disc. This is a common feature of Sony's, but I am surprised that this Samsung omits that feature.

So, number one, I have an Apple TV and love it for it's ease of use. And I love that I can use my Bluetooth Keyboard with it. But I thought I needed to get with the times & get a Blue Ray.
First off the Menus in my opinion are not user friendly and getting around on the Remote to key passwords & the like is a headache. I like having Vudu except, it keeps reporting in middle of Movie, No Internet Connection.I check the Network Settings & I am on the Internet. Now I'm 58 years old and I wear glasses, but when I put my first Blue Ray Disc in, I was waiting to be blown away. The Movie I tested it with is "Mimic". I could see it detailed the dimensions more than normal DVD, but it did not knock my socks off. I have a newer 46" Samsung LCD TV. All in all, these are my impressions thus far.

Not Just A Blu Ray Player

Comments about Samsung BD-F5700 Blu-Ray Player:

So this was my first blu ray player. At first I was shopping for just something that would play back blu rays and DVDs- but it turns out those are hard to come by at a reasonable price. I decided to just spend a little extra to get all the bells and whistles that came with this player.

The wireless network connectivity is nice, although sometimes it can get a little unresponsive or laggy, unlike our Roku box. On a few occasions the player will just freeze altogether when an app is open and the only way to get out of it is to unplug it from the wall.

The default choice of apps that come on this blu ray player covers a nice basic array of multimedia content: Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Facebook, Vudu, Youtube, Cinema Now, and even AccuWeather.

I tested blu rays, DVDs, CDs and all played seamlessly. It also has a nice feature where you can plug in a USB device and show pictures of videos. I liked this feature, but I wish it would include more formats of images and video (I think it only supports jpgs and it couldn't read any of my m4p movies).

Overall it's a nice player if you don't already have something to stream content from popular apps (most of us have several devices).

Was hoping to replace the Home Theater PC kludge in back of my TV.
Won't play vob, iso, and some mkv files on USB drives.
Runs rather hot and has no ventilation for internal parts. Looks like I'm stuck with a loud Home Theater PC and VLC player for some time. Wireless streaming will fall victim to any microwave oven operating within 30 feet so wireless movie is useless in apt buildings.

I've enjoyed blu-ray disks now that I have this Samsung product. However, I would liked to have known it wants a direct connection to the TV in order to play. I only have two HDMI inputs on my TV. I use an HDMI switcher with 5 inputs to connect Apple TV, XBox, Roku, and Chomecast. The Samsung Blu-Ray player didn't like switcher. But, it worked fine when I plugged it directly into the TV. This may be due to copy protection on the blu-ray disks themselves and not the Samsung BD-F5700 product. And, my switcher is a simple model. I haven't tested the newer heavy-duty tuners/receivers that include HDMI switching. Someone else with that hardward may be able able to comment here. All in all, works great after getting it connected.

Comments about Samsung BD-F5700 Blu-Ray Player:

I love the smaller size of this blu-ray player. Fits perfectly on the mantle under our wall mounted TV. Our TV is also a Samsung and when turning this blu-ray on it automatically switches the source, etc. Incredibly user friendly.

Comments about Samsung BD-F5700 Blu-Ray Player:

Bought this player for it's size and Wi-Fi connectivity. It's smaller than most players and can be placed in tight places. Picture is great and Blu-ray and dvd load time is so much faster than our old player.

The unit arrived as scheduled. After reading many reviews of different Blu-ray players (samsung, Sony, LG, etc...) I dicided to go with this one. The price seemed right for the features offered. I've had this unit for a few weeks now and it's working as expected.

Works fine but I'm not sure how it interacts with my Samsung TV. The remote on the Blu-ray turns the TV on and off even when I don't want it to.
