I cannot say enough good things about these headphones!

I have used them professionally in recording studios for about 20 years, and I still have a few sets that are about that old! Not that you can tell by looking at them!

      THE REASONS WHY:

      1. They sound good. Balanced, and louder for the same input than most other cans (even the expensive Beyer and Sennhiesers).

      2. MOST important - the sound does not bleed OUT of these cans and into your microphone. I cannot stress enough how important this is in recording. My vocal tracks NEVER have significant "headphone bleed into the mic" on them.
TEST: sit in a quiet listening room with a music source and a bunch of different headphones, including those really expensive Beyers and Sennheisers. Play the music and put the cans over you thigh. How much sound do you hear coming out of them. The T-20's will be quieter than all the rest = WINNER.

      3. They are TOUGH! I have had musicians drop these on the hardwood floor repeatedly and NONE of them have ever failed. The only sets I ever had fail got crushed by Marshall amps or by 1/2 ton flight cases.

      4. The cable. It's LONG. That's good - it allows for freedom of movement. It's STRAIGHT. So it stays where you put it better. It only attaches on ONE SIDE. Again, it stays out of your way. It PLUGS-IN to the cans - it's a separate part that can easily be removed and replaced in 2 seconds. This is the only part of these cans I have ever had to replace.

      5. They are easy to clean.
I could show you some that are more than 15-years old and you'd never guess. They look virtually brand new.

      6. THE PRICE! Are you kidding me? Under a hundred bucks? Hands down winner for studio use.

      Enjoy 'em!

For the price, these are fine. I wouldn't make any critical decisions with them but they work well as confidence monitors. Using them at a student radio station.

        Comments about Fostex T20RP Headphone:

These headphones represent reasonably well-made, semi-open orthodynamic headphones at an entry level price.

Consider them as a 'B' or 'C' pair for comparative purposes or as a traveling set if you don't want to risk damage/loss of a more expensive pair.

They can also easily and confidently handed to producers or clients in the studio without sweating about mangled cables or other potential damage.

It shares same driver with Fostex T50RP. I also have T50RP. A little DIY makes this headphone really fantastic. Buid quality, sound, and price are just too good to be true. I also have ATH-M50, AKG K550, Superlux HD668b and Creative Aurvana Live. T20RP is my favorite.

Very pleased with the T20 headphones. they offer true flat respoce and are easy to mix with, the cable is made for easy replacement ,my only complaint would be that ,they need better padding on the top where they ride on your head , after an hour or so its becomes unconfortable , but due to there accuarcy in sound I can live with it.

I got mine used about eight years ago - I always loved the sound, but with time - the original (round) pads got decimated eventually...I suffered it for a while or original replacement pads are $30/each !!! I got T50RP2 from B&H, but eventually found a compatible replacement for pad - Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Ear Cushions, my old T20 back to rocking ! Still my favs even vs my new t50sOnly Con I would list is you need decent headphone amp to drive these.. like Audioengine D1

I have been using these Head Phones since they first hit the market in the early 80's they don't distort when used with a high out put board I use them to record and take them with me if I'm in some one else's Studio the cord is replaceable so you will never lose your head Phone's do to a bad cord it can be replaced with a simple phone call they are transparent so what you hear is what it is no guessing and only the Truth if it needs work then you need to learn the song or mic the amp right not get a sweet lie and be called on a bad recording when it is press time I have the T20rp, at the top of my list and like them better then the T50' but I'm a hard rocker the T20's work in any style of music but Shine when Marshall 100w stack's are cranked and it is all on you get a Clear picture and that mean's more then money or a pat on the back so it is Your call I made mine in the 80's and still stand by it today and still have my first Sets of T20's Rock n Roll

I have used both the earlier (round ear pads) Fostex T-20's and the newer (Oval ear pads) T20RP's for years in my recording studio and they have always worked great and are very durable. I have about 15 pairs of these and wouldn't use anything else!

                        Comments about Fostex T20RP Headphone:

I bought the T20RP MKII expecting the same driver as in the T50RP, except with some damping changes. I was exactly right -- the driver is the same, but the felt damping of the bass ports and the middle knob are different. If you're someone looking to mod a cheap Fostex ortho, these are just as good as the T50RPs.

Stock sound was pretty bad. Mids were congested, lows and highs were rolled off. Good microdetail, though. I couldn't really stand them. They were great with -heavy- equalization.

I modded them with plasticine mass loading on the driver side, Silverstone acoustic foam lining the opposite site, plasticine mass loaded the headband screw area and placed acoustic foam over it, 2 cotton balls on each ear pad. 3 and a half bass ports covered with electrical tape. Stock earpads. Modded sound was quite excellent, bass came out nicely, mids were no longer congested, treble was less rolled off.

I highly suggest these to any modder out there.

I use these primarily for listening to music with a vintage Sansui G-6000, but they will also be used for digital and analog home recording.
They are very comfortable except I would like some padding on the headband, which is rubber.
With certain recordings (e.g. Zeppelin IV) I end up turning the "loudness" off and the volume up to get more treble, whereas with my old Sonys I always left the "loudness" on.

Let me preface this review by stating that I am a cheapskate who wants the most bang for his buck.

I use my headphones for watching movies, listening to music and playing video games . Through the years I've gone through a tonne of headsets, from hundred dollar Sennheisers to the cheap 10 dollar earbuds and I can honestly say these are the best bang for the buck. Great audio, looks very sturdy(replacement parts available as well) and very comfortable to use. Some ambient sound leaks in but it still much better than my old Sennheisers.

They seem to be made well, and the former headphones haven't lost any quality and haven't become tattered in 16 years. They don't hype the bass too much, which I've noticed in other phones. Comments about Fostex T20RP Headphone:

                                    Enjoy 'em!
