Comments about Canon EOS 30D Digital Camera Kit with 17-85mm EF-S IS USM Lens:
After using the 30D for about 1 year now I can certainly say without a doubt you will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase this camera. It was my first digital since making the switch over from film. I thought I'd never give up film but now I can't believe I waited so long. I've never been a technical person and with this camera you don't have to be a technical wizard which earns extra points in my book...location or in the studio....the Canon 30D produces excellent results. Great software too.
Problems Encountered: Watch out for dust.

I originally started with the Canon Eos Rebel Xt....Then EOS 20D for a little more speed and now the EOS 30D. AND WOW.. Even though they are all 8.2 the speed and quality is insane and you can tell the difference. The Camera is with a battery grip is so ideal and so perfect... If had a billion dollars I would buy everyone this camera after I got myself the Eos 1 Mark... But the only thing I would like to see is a 12.2 mega pixel chip in it!

I just up graded from the original 6.2 Digital Rebel to the 30D. I let a couple of weeks go by (to let the honeymoon pass) before writing this. I got the 17-85EF S lens first to use with the Rebel. The Digital Rebel was sweet, but this camera is incredible. It is heavier than the DR and the XTi but the feel and the fit with the lenses is perfect. The 30D at 24oz (lighter than the Nikon D200 at 2lbs) balances the S lenses and the 70-200 L lens I use perfectlyThe operation is absolutely intuitive. Menus are easy to understand and very easy to use. Start up is fast and the whole process of focus, shutter speed, and replay is very solid and smooth.I have taken about 200 picture in different situations (sports landscapes etc) using the filters and different white balances, as well as custom WB. All this was done easily with good and pleasing results.Having been brought up on B&W I love shooting in the monochrome mode using the filters. All the pictures are sharp with little noise at all iso's. I use fine-large format...after all why did I get this thing if not for crisp results.A great improvement is the New Zoom Browser which, when installed over-wrote the old program and is MUCH BETTER, and again intuitive. I modify all my j-pegs with Photo Shop.Over all this camera is the ticket for the advanced amature ready to go the the next level
Problems Encountered: Read out on the top of the camera for focus, drives etc can take some getting use to. I read that vignetting that was seen with th17-85EF at lower mm seen with other cameras was not seen on the 30D...not true.

I have owned a Canon EOS A2 35mm for years. About 1 1/2years ago I bought the 20D with the 17-85mm Lens and haveloved it. I recently took a Photo Safari trip to Botswana,South Africa and needed a second body so I bought the 30D.What a fantastic camera.. larger LCD screen is a plus andthe new shutter fantastic. I used the 30D with my 100-400mmL lens and the 20d with the 17-85mm lens with outstandingresults. Very easy to use ergonomics... switches and controls veryintuitive. I am an advanced amateur and these cameras makingtaking pictures in the field a pleasure. One word of caution... dust is always a problem with digitalslrs so you have to be careful. I used a dust cover while inthe Land Rover in the bush and since I had two camera bodiesdid not have to change lenses in the field.I did get one spot on the sensor that had to be removed...so be careful.
Problems Encountered: None. Just the one spec of dust!

I was somewhat hesitant to purchase after reading some of the negatives concerning dust internally. I have always been a dedicated 35mm SLR fan for many years. I have used a Kodak digital camera also. I was very used to the Canon Elan 35 mm. This camera has exceeded my expectations! The flash works beautifully for indoor, the software is intuitive, the features are just amazing! The manual is well written but does take time to go through, but if you have previous experience it does not take rocket science to understand. The 17-85 lens really works well, and all my EFS lenses that I used with my Elan work superbly. The software for RAW image processing works just great, and unless you are really picky no need for Adobe CS. Great job Canon!

I bought the EOS 30D after having a chance to use a colleagues 20D which had impressed me. When I learned to shoot film, I was encouraged to keep a shot notebook and note camera settings and other relevant data. This plus the ability to work in a darkroom taught me a great deal. The ability to see shot data and histogram provides a more thorough fame of reference than my notebook method of years ago. Try a different setting get a particularly pleasing result and the meta data keeps track of what you did.The quick start up and flexibility offered by this camera amaze me. It is a very easy to use point and shoot if you want it to be as well as an amazingly competent tool for self expression. The access to the incredible range of Canon accessories is a huge plus since the line is tiered so that if you require an L series pro lens you can use it but there are more affordable Canon lenses available also.I admit to not considering Nikon even though I own a small point and shoot, mainly because 30+ years ago I had a Canon F-1 which I loved.I'm off looking for Canon fodder.

This is a great camera! I bought a Canon Digital Rebel XT 13 months ago and then I bought this camera - Canon EOS 30d. I haven't used my Rebel since purchasing the 30d. The 30d is so worth the money and the features are easier to use than the Rebel.
