Near silent operation is achieved with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor, which converts "traveling waves" into rotational energy to focus the optics. Three elements of Nikon's performance-proven extra-low dispersion (ED) glass are used in a 10-element formula to provide sharpness that rivals any supertelephoto. This second-generation AF-S lens features improvements from its predecessor including lighter weight and higher magnification.
