The Sony MZ-M100 is a Hi-MD portable Mini-disc audio recording solution for journalists and musicians interested in creating high-quality, longer-length stereo audio recordings using cost-effective, removable storage media. Hi-MD discs have a 1GB storage capacity and are completely over-writable.

The MZ-M100 records in either uncompressed linear PCM files which may be converted to and transferred in WAV file format, or as compressed audio using Sony's proprietary ATRAC3plus, available in two disc-space conserving modes. Audio and data files may be bi-directionally transferred to either Windows- or Mac OS-based computers via USB. The highly efficient unit operates for up to 33 hours with the supplied NiMH rechargeable and a single "AA" battery.
